James C. Masingill
JAN. 23, 1955 - FEB. 5, 2005

James C. Masingill, 50, Garnett, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.

He was born Jan. 23, 1955, in Englewood, Calif., the son of Jerl and Elaine Pitts Masingill. He moved to Dale, Okla., in 1959 and then to Shawnee, Okla., in 1964. He lived in the Shawnee and Maud areas until moving to Garnett in 1998.

Mr. Masingill was self-employed as an electronics repairman.

He and Phyllis Jackson were married Feb. 18, 1972, in Shawnee.

Those preceding him in death were his wife, Phyllis Jackson Masingill, who died Oct. 12, 2004, and his father.

Survivors include his son, Steven Masingill of Garnett; his daughter, Lisa Pope of Garnett; his mother, Elaine Masingill of Garnett; a brother, Rex Masingill of Shawnee, Okla.; and a sister, Pat Masingill of Garnett.

Services were Tuesday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett.

Memorials may be made to ECKAN of Garnett in care of the funeral, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Gerry Lee Miller
NOV. 23, 1960 - FEB. 4, 2005

Gerry Lee Miller, 44, Pleasant Hill, Mo., a native of Garnett, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2004, in Olathe Medical Center.

The son of Gerald and Virginia Thompson Miller, he was born Nov. 23, 1960, in Garnett. He completed 14 years of schooling and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He and Becky Reynolds were married May 20, 2000, in Pleasant Hill.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Lakeland Community Church in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Those preceding him in death included a brother, Randy Miller, who died in 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Reynolds Miller of Pleasant Hill; a daughter, Randi Miller, 4, of the home; two stepsons, Dakota, 14, and Dylan, 12, both of the home; his parents of Garnett; a sister, Cindy Lowe of Garnett; and his grandparents, Ruth Huggins and Frank and Lois Miller, all of Garnett.

Services were Monday in the First Christian Church in Garnett, followed by burial in Garnett Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his memory in care of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Bruce Allan Milne
MARCH 14, 1958 - FEB. 7, 2005

Bruce Allan Milne, 46, Lawrence, formerly of Osawatomie, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born March 14, 1958, in Olathe, the son of G. Harry and Evelyn June Beutzer Milne. He was raised on a farm southeast of Osawatomie and attended schools in Fontana and Osawatomie. He graduated in 1976 from Osawatomie High School.

After graduation, he worked at several jobs before enlisting in the U. S. Navy in 1978. He remained in the Navy for four years, spending most of his duty aboard ship. After an honorable discharge, he resided in Topeka and Lawrence.

In 1993 he met and married Nadine Chenault. They made their home in Lawrence.

Mr. Milne was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004 and was admitted to the Veterans' Administration Medical Center on Jan. 27.

Those preceding him in death were his grandparents and father.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Milne of the home; his mother, Evelyn Milne of Osawatomie; three sisters, Kay Lunnon of Gainesville, Texas, Marti Kjustad of Wall, S.D., and Mary Ann Peterson of Osawatomie; five brothers, Jon Milne of Waukesha, Wis., Paul Milne of Pilot Grove, Mo., Gary Milne of Osawatomie, Chris Milne of Sparta, Mo., and Robert Milne of Warrensburg, Mo.; his stepson, Colan Medicine Horse; and four stepgrandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Beagle Cemetery with military honors. He will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.

Memorials are to the Topeka Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Charles A. Peckman
JAN. 25, 1956 - FEB. 3, 2005

Charles A. Peckman, 49, lifelong Paola resident, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in Olathe Medical Center.

"Chuck," as he was known, was born Jan. 25, 1956, in Paola, the son of Donald and Patty Prothe Peckman. He grew up in the Paola area and graduated in 1974 from Paola High School. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in refrigeration.

He and Wendy Walters Knecht were married on June 29, 2003, in Melbourne, Fla.

Early in his career, he worked as a welder in the construction of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant near Burlington and as an iron worker for Doherty Ornamental Iron. He became a member of the Pipefitters Local Union No. 533. He was then employed as a foreman for Hussman Refrigeration. While working for Hussman in 1999, he was awarded the outstanding mechanical installation award. He was last employed as a construction foreman for Fagan Refrigeration.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Paola.

He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, NASCAR racing, hunting, fishing, barbecuing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Wendy Peckman of the home; two sons, Justin Heger and Joe Knecht, both of Paola; a daughter, Sarah Coddington of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his parents, Donald and Patty Peckman of the Block community; his sister, Teri Weis of the Block community; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services were Monday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola.

Memorials may be made to the Chuck Peckman Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Fred Lee Reppert
DEC. 25, 1929 - FEB. 5, 2005

Fred Lee Reppert, 75, Mound City, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at his Lake Chaparral home.

He was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Fred L. Reppert Sr. and Rose Baier Reppert.

He was a member of the Oil and Chemical Workers Union and worked 43 years for Colgate Palmolive before retiring in 1983.

In summers of years past, Mr. Reppert was a pitcher for teams playing men's fast pitch softball. Most games were in Shawnee Park and other Kansas City area parks.

After retirement he could be found either mowing grass or building small wood projects in his workshop.

He and Patricia Kliner were married May 3, 1949.

Those preceding him in death included a brother, Donald Reppert.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Reppert of the home; three sons, Larry Reppert of Lake Chaparral, Joe Reppert of Overland Park and Steve Reppert of Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Rita Smith and Elaine Higbee, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Carol Scherzer of Shawnee; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church or Midland Hospice in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box J, Mound City, Kan. 66056.

Ruby Lee Shaw
MAY 29, 1918 - FEB. 2, 2005

Ruby Lee Shaw, 86, Mound City, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in Medicalodge of Fort Scott.

Born May 29, 1918, in Butler, Mo., she was the daughter of Earl and Edna Boren Gatlin. She and Chester Shaw were married in 1938 in the Linn County Courthouse in Mound City.

She was a homemaker and farm wife.

Her memberships included the First Christian Church of Pleasanton where she taught Sunday school and was involved with the choir and the Linn County Historical Society. She also helped form Linn County Concern.

Those preceding her in death were a daughter, Cora Lee, and two sisters, Marie Hamilton and Esther Denny.

Survivors include her husband, Chester Shaw of Mound City; a son, Ernest Lee Shaw of Lawrence; three sisters, Laveta Ward of Cheney, Kan., Thelma Arbogast of Kansas City, Kan., and Arlene Stark of San Jose, Calif.; and one grandson.

Services were Saturday in Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Burial was in Pleasanton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation, the church or the Medicalodge activity fund in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, Pleasanton, KS 66075.
