Crystal Sue Hajney
APRIL 11, 1969 - MAY 9, 2005

Crystal Sue Hajney, 36, Osawatomie, died Monday, May 9, 2005, in the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born April 11, 1969, in Independence, Mo. She graduated from high school.

She was married to Robin James Hajney on Feb. 23, 2002, in Gardner. They made their home in Gardner until moving to Osawatomie 18 months ago.

Mrs. Hajney founded Bridge to Freedom Inc. of Osawatomie and worked as spokesman and group facilitator for three years.

She was a member of the Gardner Baptist Church.

Her mother, Catherine Walker, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband, Robin James Hajney of Osawatomie; a sister, Melissa Dirks of Great Falls, Mont., and a brother, David Dirks.

Memorial services were Friday in the Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner.

Contributions may be made to the Crystal Hajney Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 192, Gardner, KS 66030.

Mary Lee Hoffman
JULY 23, 1926 - MAY 13, 2005

Mary Lee Hoffman, 78, Lenexa, a former Paola resident, died Friday, May 13, 2005.

She was born July 23, 1926, in Horton, Kan., the daughter of Howard Major Saxton and Elva May Strickenfinger Saxton. She grew up in Paola and graduated in 1944 from Paola High School. She had lived in Lenexa for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Hoffman was known as a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She loved to read and enjoyed discussing world events and politics.

Her husband of 59 years, Clyde Hoffman, preceded her in death in February.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael Hoffman and Rick Hoffman, both of Lenexa; a brother, Howard M. Saxton of Lynwood, Wash.; a sister, Jo Ann Kleitz of Rantoul; and four grandchildren.

Private graveside services were in Paola Cemetery under the direction of Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel of De Soto.

Johnnie J. Morrison Sr.
NOV. 14, 1927-APRIL 7, 2005

Johnnie J. Morrison Sr., 77, Angora, Minn., a Parker native, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Cook Hospital in Cook, Minn.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. June 4 at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley.

He was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Parker, the son of William and Anna Dinsmore Morrison. He grew up in Parker.

He served in Korea as a military policeman with the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Kansas.

He was married to Retta Robison. They moved to Paola in September 1964. Their marriage ended in divorce. After leaving Paola, he lived in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.

He married Mary Gibbins on Aug. 21, 1975, in Waynesville, Mo. They moved to Hinckley, Minn., in 1977. After selling their home in Hinckley, the couple traveled for nearly five years in their motor home, touring many states. They moved to Angora in 1995. His wife preceded him in death Nov. 30, 2003.

Mr. Morrison was a longtime machinist for Pitman Manufacturing in Missouri and also worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and camping. He was a Scoutmaster for many years. He enjoyed gardening and his family fondly remembers the huge beans he grew and his tomatoes. He also had a fondness for telling stories and tinkering. He was often seen taking something apart or putting it together.

He was a member of the American Legion, serving as commander of the Centerville and Paola posts, and also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Paola.

Others preceding him in death were a brother, Rosco Morrison, and three sisters, Viola King, Elsie Blackmore and Dolly Dickey.

Surviving are his children and stepchildren, Martha Hale and Wayne Hale, both of Cove, Ark., Johnnie J. Morrison Jr. and Reama Bigger, both of Lawrence, Patricia Bauer of Louisburg, Trudy Morrison of Denton, Texas, Carolyn Edison of Virginia, Minn., George Hale of Angora, Minn., and Frank Hale of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Charles Morrison of Centerville, Earl Morrison of San Juan, Texas, and Jack Morrison of Iowa; two sisters, Rosa Wiley of Oregon and Vivian Kuder of Independence, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Martha Darlene Peters
JULY 7, 1928 - MAY 13, 2005

Martha Darlene Peters, 76, Paola, died Friday, May 13, 2005, in her home.

She was born July 7, 1928 in Fort Scott, the daughter of Harry D. and Alemta Smith Barrett. She attended grade school in the Fort Scott area. When she was a teenager, the family moved to Kansas City and she attended Rosedale High School.

She married Bill Peters on Nov. 8, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. They lived in Kansas City, Kan., until 1974 when they moved to rural Paola.

Mrs. Peters was employed at Allied Signal in Kansas City as an electronics assembler for 30 years before retiring due to health reasons.

She was a member of the Miami Presbyterian Church of rural Paola, the Machinist Union, Daughters of the Nile, the Louisburg Shrine Club and the Abdallah Shrine Auxiliary.

She was known as a devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling in the United States and abroad, playing cards, fishing and her animals.

Her 22-year-old daughter, Pamela Kay Peters, was among those preceding her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Peters of the home.

Services were Monday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Olathe Medical Center or Abdallah Temple Shrine Children's Transportation Fund in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Debra Lynn Roberson
SEPT. 19, 1957 - MAY 11, 2005

Debra Lynn Roberson, 47, Wichita, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005.

She was born Sept. 19, 1957, in Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors include her mother, Donna O'Brien of Pleasanton; her father, William Banks; two sons, John Wesley Banks of Wichita and Gary Sims of Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Latisha Cox of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, William Charles Banks and Fred Spickler; seven sisters, Marybeth Scott, Penny Ross, Jackie Barrett, Regina Whitaker, Elaine Banks, Alisha Walker and Donna Peters; six grandchildren; and her companion, Richard Brumley.

Services were Friday in the Prescott Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a fund in her name in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, Pleasanton, KS 66075.

Mable Alice Troutman Stites
FEB. 3, 1913 - MAY 10, 2005

Mable Alice Troutman Stites, 92, Parker, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center in Shawnee.

The daughter of Alvia N. and Josephine McBride Troutman, she was born Feb. 3, 1913, in the Parker community. She grew up in the area and attended Walnut Grove country school.

She and Walter H. Stites were married on Feb. 1, 1933, in Ottawa. They became parents of four children.

In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store and locker plant in Parker for 19 1/2 years. Mrs. Stites lived in Parker most of her life with the exception of seven years when she lived in Denver, Colo.

After retiring in 1975 Mr. and Mrs. Stites traveled.

Her memberships included the United Methodist Church of Parker where she served several years as secretary or treasurer and United Methodist Women where she served as treasurer for some time.

Mrs. Stites served a number of years as treasurer for the city of Parker.

Hobbies included quilting and making comforters and ceramics and all of her immediate family had some of her work. She also liked to cook and often baked rolls for the church suppers.

Those preceding her in death included her husband, who died Feb. 19, 1995; a daughter, Faye Stites Finfrock, who died in 1982; a brother, Lester Troutman; and a sister, Evelyn Purcell.

Survivors include two sons, Ray A. Stites of Sun City, Ariz., and Walter S. Stites of Shawnee; a daughter, Carol Prentice of Shawnee; two sisters, Babe Sickler and Loretta Sickler; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday in the church. Burial was in the Goodrich Cemetery south of Parker.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, KS 66042.
