Robert W. Steen
DEC. 13, 1913 - NOV. 10, 2005

Robert W. Steen, 91, Paola, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, in Louisburg Care Center.

He was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Archie, Mo., the son of Robert I. and Frances Lee Miller Steen.

Mr. Steen spent most of his life farming and operating a dairy.

He was an active member of his community for many years.

He enjoyed taking homemade pies to community dinners. He was always there to take a friend or neighbor to the doctor. He will be remembered for his love of children and as a dear friend and neighbor.

A brother, Max Steen, died in World War II.

Immediate survivors include a brother, Willis Steen of Paola, and a sister, Helen Lacy of Drexel, Mo.

Services were Saturday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Louisburg. Burial was in Louisburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice or Miami Presbyterian Church.

Elsie P. Trickett
SEPT. 30, 1936 - NOV. 7, 2005

Elsie P. Trickett, 69, a longtime Paola resident, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005.

Mrs. Trickett was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Wortham, Texas. She was one of the 11 children of Louis and Lillian Marie Ward Lucas. The family moved to Sundown, Texas, when she was very young and she was a 1954 graduate of high school in Sundown

She met Rolyn L. Trickett in 1955 while he was stationed at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. They were married on March 31, 1956, and came to Paola to make their home. They became the parents of twin sons. Her husband preceded her in death in 2003.

Mrs. Trickett worked at Smith and Co. Garment Factory, King Radio/Bendix King and then King Radio/Honeywell, all in Paola, before being transferred to Olathe with the company. She worked for the company for more than 20 years before retiring four years ago.

She was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church.

She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband always looked forward to their trips to Texas to visit them. Other pastimes included bingo on Friday nights and bus trips with friends. Others preceding her in death were three brothers, James Lucas, Whitey Lucas and Kenneth Lucas.

Survivors include her two sons, Mike Trickett of Katy, Texas, and Bob Trickett of Odessa, Texas; three sisters, Margaret Swor of Huntsville, Texas, and Gladys Garner and Terrie McGowan, both of Mexia, Texas; four brothers, Bill Lucas of Arizona, Roger Lucas of Houston, Texas, Thomas Lucas of Corsicana, Texas, and Danny Lucas of Plano, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Services were Friday in the Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Paola Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Lloyd James Ward
Lloyd James Ward, 68, Colony, Kan., the son of Alice Ward of Garnett, died Nov. 10, 2005 in his home.

Agnes Wallock
Agnes Wallock, 84, a former Paola resident, died Nov. 6, 2005 in her home in Lenexa.

Thelma F. Likovich
Thelma F. Likovich, 101, Overland Park, died Nov. 11, 2005 in Villa St. Joseph. She was a former psychiatric social supervisor at the Osawatomie State Hospital.

Phyllis Gudger Baker Gary
Phyllis Gudger Baker Gary of Port Richey, Fla., died Nov. 12, 2005 after a short illness suffering with brain cancer. Her parents are the late Hearn and Ruth Hayes Gudger of Osawatomie.

Lorna R. McNerney
Lorna R. McNerney, 96, Kansas City area, the mother of Terrence J. McNerney of Paola, died Nov. 11, 2005. Memorials may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Church, 14200 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66224.

Edith Glauser
1933 - Dec. 26, 2005

Edith Glauser, 72, a former resident of Paola and Reeds Spring, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo., from complications of Alzheimers.

She was the daughter of John and Wilhelmina Dageforde Schroeder. She was a 1951 graduate of Paola High School.

She married Glenn Glauser in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Mrs. Glauser will be remembered for the many lives she touched with her specially decorated birthday, wedding and shower cakes.

Those surviving include her two daughters, Dee Ann Mease of Reeds Spring and Dixie Foster of Purdy; her son, Carl Glauser of Branson, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Groves of Florissant, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 30 in Kimberling City and burial was in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens in Springfield.

Donations be made to the Glauser Oncology Fund, Cox Health Foundation, 3525 S. National, Suite 204, Springfield, MO 65807, in her memory.

Donald Jule Hess
July 6, 1923 - Dec. 27, 2005

Donald Jule Hess, 82, Drexel, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born July 6, 1923, in Elwood, Kan., the son of Thomas Henry and Esther Ethel Groenke Hess. He was a 1942 graduate of Archie High School in Archie, Mo.

He served with the 2852nd Engineering Gas Generating Unit of the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946 and served in Europe in World War II.

He married June Hackler on April 12, 1947, in Paola.

Mr. Hess was a carpenter most of his life. He remodeled and built new homes, barns, churches, the Optimist building, tool sheds and birdhouses.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and American Legion Post No. 536, both in Archie, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1935 and Adrian Optimist Club, both in Adrian, Mo.

Two brothers and two sisters were among those preceding him in death.

Surviving are his wife, June Hess of the home; a son, Larry Hess of Adrian; two daughters, Gloria Reynolds of Adrian and Susan Medina of Belton, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday at the church. Pallbearers were Bryan Reynolds, Derek Aurand, Curt Kimminau, Sam Kingsolver, Kevin Talbott and Tom Hackler Jr. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian with military honors by the Harrisonville Honor Guard.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the Atkinson Funeral Home, 600 W. Wall St., Harrisonville, MO 64701.

Sidney S. Higginbottom
July 4, 1923 - Dec. 31, 2005

Sidney S. Higginbottom 82, Parker, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.

The son of Wesley and Minnie Davis Higginbottom, he was born July 4, 1923, in Anderson County. He and Norma Lee Fields were married Nov. 6, 1948, in Iola.

Mr. Higginbottom was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the Garnett Post No. 6397 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a farmer and stockman.

Those preceding him in death included a brother, Virgil Higginbottom, and two sisters, Fern Horn and Velma Millington.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Lee Higginbottom of Parker, and a stepdaughter, Donis Fields of Westphalia, Kan.

Services were Tuesday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett, followed by burial in Garnett Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Garnett VFW post in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.
