Herbert L. Miller Sr.
July 22, 1921 - Aug. 15, 2006

Herbert L. Miller Sr., 85, La Cygne, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, in his home.

He was born July 22, 1921, in Hallett, Okla., the son of Anthony Miller and Grace Bishop Miller.

Mr. Miller served with the U.S. Army during World War II, earning two Bronze stars and many other medals and ribbons.

From 1958 until 1988, he worked as a truck driver and in the roofing industry.

He and Mary Fanska were married July 30, 1988, in Kansas City, Kan.

Over the years, he became the father of a number of children from previous marriages.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Miller of the home; two brothers; sons and daughters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Thursday in Brooklyn Cemetery near La Cygne.

Contributions may be made to the Herbert L. Miller Sr. memorial fund in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, KS 66040.

James B. Dalsing
Jan. 21, 1924 - Oct. 31, 2006

James B. Dalsing, 82, a retired Greeley business man and former city council member, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, in his Greeley home.

Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Independence, Kan., he was the son of John H. and Mary Lehrke Dalsing. He attended Independence area schools. He had lived in Greeley since the age of 14.

Mr. Dalsing served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe.

He and Wilma Jean Kipper were married July 7, 1948, in Scipio, Kan.

He owned and operated the Greeley Cafe from 1964 until 1983. In addition, he worked as a salesman for Slayman Beverage Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1981 due to health issues.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Greeley Memorial Post 6887 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Greeley. He was also a member of the American Legion in Olathe.

Mr. Dalsing served on the Greeley City Council and the Anderson County Historical Society. He spent many years coaching Little League baseball in Greeley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and bowling. His greatest joy was the time he spent with family and friends.

Those preceding him in death included a brother, Virgil Dalsing, and one grandson, Jason Dalsing, who died in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean Dalsing of the home; three sons, James A. Dalsing of Olathe, Tom Dalsing of Warrensburg, Mo., and Gene Dalsing of Independence, Mo.; five daughters, Diana Lickteig and Mary Jo Dalsing, both of Greeley, Kay Egidy and Cindy Katzer, both of Olathe, and Beckey Sommer of Topeka; four sisters, Agnes Sunderland of Greeley, Rita Fischer of Ottawa, Shirley Bowmaker of Fairview, Okla., and Charlene Bridges of Clovis, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday in the church, followed by burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church in care of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapter, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Myrtle Florine Dennis
Oct. 25, 1931 - Nov. 4, 2006

Myrtle Florine Dennis, 75, Manhattan, a former resident of the Beagle and Osawatomie communities, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.

She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Antioch, the daughter of Walter and Bertha Ward Foland. She grew up in the Antioch area where she attended school.

On Feb. 5, 1950, she and Frank Allen Dennis were married in Olathe. They lived in Gardner before traveling throughout the state due to his employment with Rhodes Construction Co.

After his retirement, they lived in the Beagle and Osawatomie area until his death. In 1979 she moved to Manhattan to make her home. She worked as a nurses' aide for several years before retiring in the early 1980s.

Her pastimes included going to the casinos and playing bingo. She enjoyed time spent with her family and making people laugh.

Others preceding her in death included twin daughters; two sons, Roger Dennis and John Dennis; a sister, Dorothy Snyder; a brother, Harley Foland; a half brother, Bill Austin; and one grandson, Gary G. Dennis.

Survivors include her five children, Gary G. Dennis of Osawatomie, Frank A. Dennis of Paola, Shirley L. Woellhof of West Moreland, Kan., Alberta A. Pope of Council Grove, Kan., and Barbara C. Bailey of Manhattan; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Osawatomie Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 2:45 p.m. today in Wilson and Son Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.

David Allen Nevill
Feb. 5, 1979 - Nov. 2, 2006

David Allen Nevill, 27, Paola, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, in Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 5, 1979, in Merriam, the son of George David and Connie Sue Croxton Nevill. He grew up in the Shawnee area and attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. While in high school, he was involved with the ROTC program and excelled in soccer and baseball.

He worked as a welder and a tire technician in the Kansas City area before moving to Paola with his parents in 2002.

He had a great love for animals and enjoyed working with horses throughout his life. He enjoyed making people laugh, traveling, fishing, hunting, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his parents, George and Connie Nevill of Paola; a sister, Lori Hurt of Junction City, Kan.; and his grandmothers, Gloria Croxton of Overland Park and Eleanor Nevill of Springfield, Ill.

A funeral Mass was Monday in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and burial was in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, both in Paola. Arrangements were cared for by Wilson and Son Funeral Home of Paola.

Dorothy M. Worthington
Jan. 13, 1916 - Nov. 6, 2006

Dorothy Margaret Worthington, 90, Paola, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.

The daughter of Andrew Joseph and Effie Frances Seuferling Pfannes, she was born Jan. 13, 1916, near Wea in rural Louisburg. The family lived in Beagle for about 10 years before returning to the Wea community in rural Bucyrus. She attended Rose Valley country school northeast of Beagle and graduated in 1934 from Wea High School.

After graduating she moved to Kansas City and lived in a family's home doing domestic work until her marriage.

She and Clifford Jessie Worthington were married Jan. 20, 1940, in Wea. They became the parents of one daughter. The family lived in the Spring Hill and Bucyrus areas until moving to rural Louisburg north of Somerset in 1951. They moved to Paola in May 1968 to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death Aug. 12, 1996.

Mrs. Worthington was a homemaker and worked at Smith & Co. Garment Factory, makers of Lounge Craft, in Paola as an inspector and payroll clerk from 1955 until 1978 when the business closed and she retired.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Women's Group in Paola. She was a former member of the church's St. Ann's Quilting Circle. She donated handmade pieced and embroidered quilts for many years for the church's annual fall bazaar raffle.

She loved to piece quilts and quilt them by hand. She also enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and working crossword puzzles.

Others preceding her in death were three sisters, Mary Miller, Katherine Holland and Gertrude Worthington, and three brothers, Lawrence Pfannes, Clarence Pfannes and Leonard Pfannes.

Surviving are her daughter, Delores Herrs of Paola; two brothers, Leo Pfannes and Richard Pfannes, both of Louisburg; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

A visitation was held Tuesday in the church, with a rosary being recited. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. today. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Wea.

Contributions may be made to the Dorothy Worthington Memorial Fund or to the church in care of Wilson and Son Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Roger Earl Harlan
Roger Earl Harlan, 67, Spring Hill died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, in his home. Surviviors include his wife, Dianne Harlan of the home; and three children, including Nikki L. Chapman of Paola.

Clarence Otis Robinson
(Oct. 26, 1907 - Jan. 20, 2003)

Clarence Otis Robinson, 95, Garnett, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.

He was born Oct. 26, 1907, in Belpre, Kan., a son of Clarence O. and Josephine Baier Robinson. He completed his high school education and then farmed in Western Kansas until 1961.

Mr. Robinson then moved to California were he was a groundskeeper for California State University in Los Angeles.

He moved to Garnett in 1975. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Garnett, the Garnett Senior Center and American Association of Retired People.

He and Ruby Celestine Fouts were married Aug. 19, 1927. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1971.

On May 11, 1974, he and Lucille Pudge Keplinger were married. She preceded him in death July 17, 2001.

Others preceding him in death were a daughter, Eileen Gifford, and a brother.

Survivors include a son, Harold Robinson of Blackwell, Okla.; a stepson, Renny Keplinger of Hilltop Lakes, Texas; a stepdaughter, Dena Sue Keplinger Schone of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were Saturday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett. Burial was in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.
