Bettye Speedone Pesek

Bettye Speedone Pesek, 77, La Cygne, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Born Oct. 9, 1926, in Watson, Mo., she was the daughter of Wade and Lorena Wikins Barkwell. She and Joseph Leroy Speedone were married March 25, 1948, in Girard, Kan. He died Nov. 1, 1979.
She and Bill Pesek were married in 1982. He died Feb. 13, 2001.
Mrs. Pesek was a mother and homemaker and loved gardening.
She attended the Calvary Baptist Church in La Cygne and later the Catholic church in Chicopee, Kan. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Those preceding her in death also included a brother, Sam Barkwell, and two sisters, Elaine Gilbert and Darlene Melton.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Lee Speedone of La Cygne, Sammy Joe Speedone of Kansas City, Kan., and John David Speedone of Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Sue O'Sullivan of Garden City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday in Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home, followed by burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, both in La Cygne.

William Leo Boone
APRIL 14, 1918 - AUG. 13, 2004
William Leo Boone, 86, a former mayor and retired businessman of Drexel, Mo., and La Cygne native, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Louisburg Care Center.
He was born April 14, 1918, in La Cygne, the son of William I. and Margaret Massey Boone. He was a graduate of Drexel High School.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
He married Alice Dawson on Oct. 19. 1937, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Boone worked at Black, Sivalls and Bryson for 30 years. He was president of the local AFL-CIO union for 12 years. After retiring, he moved to Drexel and was owner and operator of the Drexel school buses.
While living in Drexel, he was elected mayor and served for 12 years.
He was a member of the Drexel United Methodist Church.
Two brothers and a sister were among those preceding him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Alice Boone of the home; a daughter, Judith Ann Tittone of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Donald K. Boone and Terry Boone, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Jerry Boone of Independence, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Tuesday in the church. Runyan Funeral Home of Drexel cared for the arrangements.

Margaret Ruth Peckham
MARCH 25, 1909 - AUG. 12, 2004
Margaret Ruth Peckham, 95, a Miami County native, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
The daughter of John and Anna Cornelius, she was born March 25, 1909, and raised on a farm in Miami County.
She attended Washburn University in Topeka and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
She married Joe Peckham on May 16, 1953, in Topeka. He preceded her in death Jan. 31, 2000.
During her lifetime, she worked for Jenkins Music, Crane and Co. Stationers and the Santa Fe Treasurer's Office. In later years, she and her husband owned and operated Auburn Feed and Seed Store for more than 10 years.
Mrs. Peckham was an avid horsewoman, riding until the age of 94. She was a member of the Topeka Round-Up Club and Kansas City Dressage Society. She rode in the Sunflower State Games in 2003 and was accepted into the Dressage Century Club.
She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was loved and admired by family and friends.
Survivors include three sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Idyllwild, Calif., Gladys Hutson of Lenexa and Virginia Cavinee of Fontana.
Services were Monday in Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Topeka.

Nancy Lee Schultz

Nancy Lee Schultz, 60, rural Neodesha, Kan., a former Paola resident, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita.
She was born May 8, 1944, in Fredonia, Kan., the daughter of Olin L. and Sarah E. Knoles Flowers.
She married Eugene Schultz on Oct. 28, 1962, in Fredonia. They moved to Paola about three years ago from Neodesha and returned there in early-March of this year.
Mrs. Schultz was a homemaker. She had been employed at J.C. Penney warehouse in Lenexa and took telephone orders.
Her parents and a sister, Karen Kelly, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Eugene Schultz of the home; a daughter, Brenda Harper of Olathe; two sons, Mike Schultz of Paola and Brian Schultz of Neodesha; and nine grandchildren.
Services were Monday in the Church of God in Christ-Mennonite near Fredonia. Burial was in Koger/Cheatham Cemetery
south of Fredonia.

Rosemary Wingate
NOV. 28, 1931 - AUG. 13, 2004
Rosemary Wingate, 72, Osawatomie, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Royal Terrace Nursing Center in Olathe.
She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Clyde and Mary Agnes Walsh Brown. She and James Thomas Kelley were married June 15, 1951, in Waukegan, Ill. They made their home in Milwaukee, Wis., and became parents of four children. Their marriage ended in divorce.
Later, she married Percy William Wingate Sr. in Cambridge, Md. They made their home in Bishops Head, Md., for 20 years. He died in December 1978.
Mrs. Wingate moved to Kansas in May 1997 to be near her sister.
Others preceding her in death included a son, a daughter, a sister and a half brother.
Survivors include a son, Gene Charles Miller of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Teresa Kelly of La Crosse, Wis.; her sister, Pauline Justice of Olathe; and one grandson.
Mrs. Wingate was cremated. Services will be held later.
Arrangements cared for by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.
Dorothy Falls
Dorothy Falls, wife of Kenneth R. Falls, a former Osawatomie resident and a 1947 graduate of Osawatomie High School, died recently in Palmdale, Calif. She is survived by her husband and three children.

Robert Eugene Anderson
NOV. 28, 1935 - DEC. 23, 2004
Robert Eugene Anderson, 69, Mound City, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at his home.
Known as "Gene," he was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Henley, Mo., the son of Walter and Dorothy Cain Anderson. He and Carol Loomis were married Oct. 29, 1955.
He was a past member of Lions Club.
Those preceding him in death included a son, Kenny Anderson, who died Oct. 4, 1984; a brother, Kenneth Anderson; and a sister, Waneta Gallipeau.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Anderson of Tonganoxie; his wife, Carol Anderson of Mound City; three sons, Robert Anderson Jr. of Montrose, Colo., Steven Anderson Sr. of Kansas City, Kan., and Travis Anderson of Knob Noster, Mo.; two daughters, Cynthia Schneider of Pleasanton and Denise Chodazeck of Auburndale, Fla.; two brothers, Raymond Anderson Sr. of Independence, Mo., and Cletus Anderson of Winfield, Mo.; three sisters, Debbie Erbschloe of Moneea, Va., Vickie Anderson of Portland, Ore., and Kathy Haas of Nesbitt, Miss.; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Pleasanton. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City.
