Marjorie Ann Brooks
JUNE 22, 1930 - FEB. 8, 2005

Marjorie Ann Brooks, 74, Garnett, died Tuesday, Feb. 8,. 2005, in Olathe Medical Center.

Born June 22, 1930, in Uniontown, Kan., she was the daughter of Claude H. Stainbrook and Margaret Lind.

On June 6, 1945, she and William Brooks were married in Fort Scott.

Mrs. Brooks was the owner/operator of a health food store.

Those preceding her in death were two sisters, Stella Irene Carpenter and Florence Littrell.

Survivors include her husband, William Brooks; two sons, Bill Brooks of Garnett and David Brooks of Overland Park; a daughter, Karen Brooks of Olathe; and three sisters, Claudia Mullins of Garnett, Nancy House of Altamont, Kan., and Neva Coberley of Aurora, Mo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church in Garnett. Burial will be in the Hatch Cemetery southwest of Uniontown.

Larry E. Buckman
MARCH 21, 1942 - FEB. 3, 2005

Larry E. Buckman, 62, Colony, Kan., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home.

The son of Emmit and Maxine Blevins Buckman, he was born March 21, 1942, in Yates Center, Kan. He was a graduate of Haven High School in Haven, Kan.

He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1968. He was employed by the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad; United Tire Shop in Iola; as a machinist for Churchill in Chanute, Kan.; and owned and operated the Idle Hour Tavern in Iola for several years. In recent years he raised quarter horses.

He and Carol Shepard were married March 15, 1982, in Yates Center.

Mr. Buckman was a member of the Southwest Missouri Team Penning Association.

Those preceding him in death were his father, who died in 1979, and a daughter, Phyllis Buckman, who died in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Buckman of the home; two sons, Terry Buckman of Fort Scott and Gary Shepard of Greeley; a daughter, Traci Froelich of Bolivar, Mo.; his mother, Maxine Saunders of Wichita; a brother, Bernard Buckman of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, LaDonna Hay of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were Saturday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony, followed by burial in Yates Center Cemetery.

Clara L. Hartman
AUG. 10, 1908 - FEB. 6, 2005

Clara L. Hartman, 96, Garnett, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Chanute Health Care Center in Chanute, Kan.

She was born Aug. 10, 1908, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of John Joseph and Isabelle Cole Petzell.

On Sept. 12, 1927, she and Walter Hartman were married in Garnett. In addition to being a homemaker and working on the family farm, she worked as a waitress for more than 30 years.

Those preceding her in death were her husband; three brothers, Bill Petzell, Joseph Petzell and Bernard Petzell; and a sister, Gertrude Lucking.

Survivors include two sons, John Hartman of LaHarpe, Kan., and Robert Hartman of Colony; a daughter, Shirley Hunt of LaHarpe; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett with burial in Welda Cemetery.

Ellen A. Hinkle
DEC. 16, 1915 - FEB. 4, 2005

Ellen A. Hinkle, 89, Garnett, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.

The daughter of William J. and Angie Naomi Brown Johnston, she was born Dec. 16, 1915, in New Cambria, Kan. She and Kenneth R. Hinkle were married Dec. 31, 1938, in Garnett.

Mrs. Hinkle was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church, Garnett Senior Center and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Garnett.

She was known as an avid card player.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, who died Sept. 4, 1977, and a brother, Earl Johnston.

Survivors include three sons, Dale Hinkle of Woodridge, Ill., Dean Hinkle of Bonner Springs and Duane Hinkle of Overland Park; a sister, Darlene Ross of Ottawa; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday in the First Christian Church in Garnett. Burial was in the Garnett Cemetery.

Katherine R. Molter Bruce
JAN. 10, 1962 - MARCH 5, 2005

Katherine R. Molter Bruce, 43, Garnett, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Olathe Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 10, 1962, in West Bend, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Janice Gray Molter. She grew up in West Bend and was a 1980 graduate of West Bend High School. She moved to Garnett in November 1984.

On Feb. 15, 1985, she and Ronald G. Bruce were married in West Bend. Mrs. Bruce was a homemaker. Her pastimes included gardening, flowers, quilting and reading. She was known as an excellent cook and baker.

Those preceding her in death were her father, who died Aug. 22, 2003, and her grandparents, Edward and Bertha Gray and Dorothy Elsinger.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald G. Bruce of Garnett; two sons, Travis Brandon Bruce and Joshua Adam Bruce, both Garnett; two daughters, Cassandra Rae Bruce and Brianna Marie Bruce, both of Garnett; her mother of West Bend; two brothers, Daniel Molter of Newburg, Wis., and Randolf Molter of West Bend; and her grandfather, Rainer Elsinger of West Bend.

Services were today in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett.

Charles A. Butel
JUNE 6, 1906 - MARCH 2, 2005

Charles A. Butel, 98, longtime Paola area resident, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Louisburg Care Center.

He was born June 6, 1906, and was one of the six children of Charles D. and Gertrude Dyer Butel. The family moved to Paola when he was a child. He attended Centennial Grade School No. 41 and Maur Hill High School in Atchison, Kan.

He married Evelyn Rose Scherman on June 10, 1931, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola. They became the parents of seven children.
Mr. Butel was a dairy farmer for more than 65 years on their farm northwest of Paola. His wife preceded him in death in 1992, and he continued to live on the farm until 2001.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau and the Registered Holstein Breeders Association.

He enjoyed county and state fairs, visiting with family and friends and telling stories.

Others preceding him in death were a brother, Henry Butel; an infant brother, Herman Butel; and an infant sister, Mary Butel.

Surviving are his children, Kenneth C. Butel and Edward E. Butel, both of Wellsville, Charlene M. Rogers of Fremont, Calif., Paul M. Butel of Paola, Francis W. Butel of Jefferson City, Mo., Annette E. Davis of Independence, Mo., and Philip A. Butel of Sapulpa, Okla.; two brothers, Joseph L. Butel and Anthony J. Butel, both of Paola; 30 grandchildren; and 40-plus great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday in the church, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery near Paola.

Tillie Katzer
MAY 21, 1910 - MARCH 5, 2005

Tillie Katzer, 94, Marble Fall, Texas, a longtime resident of the Scipio and Greeley area, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Stonebridge Health Center in Austin, Texas.

She was born May 21, 1910, in Scipio, the daughter of Ignatius and Elizabeth Lickteig Miller.

She and Leonard Katzer were married June 13, 1938, in Greeley. He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 2002. She was a homemaker and also cooked at St. John's School and in Greeley schools.

Mrs. Katzer was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society and served as an officer. She also served many years as secretary for the Greeley Senior Citizens. She was a 4-H leader and served on the Extension council.

After moving to Marble Falls in 1995, she became an honorary member of the Marble Falls Quilt Club.

Others preceding her in death were nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Lenn Katzer of Manhattan and Charlie Katzer of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Carol Katzer of Marble Falls; and three grandchildren.

Services were today in Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett. Burial was in Holy Angels Cemetery.
