BELLE PLAINE - Dorothy M. Trent, 81, of Belle Plaine, retired owner and operator of the Fifth Avenue Beauty Shop, died Thursday.

Memorial services - 2 p.m., Monday, Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. Interment - Belle Plaine Cemetery.

Survivors - Daughter, Karen Milne of Edmond, Okla.; companion, Gene Farber of Belle Plaine; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Geneva K. Gildhouse

PONCA CITY, Okla. - Geneva K. Rippee Hand Gildhouse, 70, retired nurse, died Tuesday.

Services - 2 p.m., Saturday, Central Baptist Church, Ponca City. Interment - Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Local survivor - Grandson, Billy Soles of Wellington.

Memorials - Alzheimer's Association, 6465 South Yale, Suite 318, Tulsa, Okla. 74136 or to Hospice of Ponca City, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Okla. 74601.

Arlis Blaine Carr

Services for Arlis Blaine Carr, who died Thursday, June 21, 2001, were held Monday, June 25, at the Frank Funeral Home. The Rev. Kendale d. Finley, of the First Christian Church, officiated.

Organ selections were "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "Oh That Will Be Glory For Me." Donnis Whaley was organist.

Casket bearers were Chris Steadham, Sam Butters, Tom Keith, Jamie Elliott, Matt Steadham, Bill Keith, David Randleman and Russ Elliott.

Honorary casket bearers were Max and Bernadine Crittenden, Marlan and Peggy Rose, J.C. and Imogene Keith, Arnold and Margie Watts, Jim and Brenda Butters and John and Debra Butters.

Interment was in Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Frank Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rose M. Shattuck

Vigil services for Rose M. Shattuck, who died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, were held Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father Andrew J. Seiler officiated.

Musical selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "Here I Am, Lord." Songleader was Catherine Zimmerman and organist was Pam Montenegro.

Ushers were Gordon Robare and Tom Ostrander.

Casket bearers were James Karlin, Leo Karlin, John Karlin, Jerry Zoglmann, Steve Hyle and Ed Bauler.

Interment was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Frank Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Winford Walcher

Harold Winford Walcher, 93, retired farmer and self-employeed carpet layer, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Beverly Health Care in Wellington.

Harold was born in rural Wellington, on Jan. 1, 1910 to George Winford and Bessie Clementine (Atteberry) Walcher.

He and Delma (Snow) Bacon were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Wellington where he was a member for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lewis Walcher and one sister, Vera Walcher.

Survivors include his wife, Delma of Wellington; daughter, Donna Harryman of Anaheim, Calif.; son Dean Walcher of Wichita; step son John Bacon of Lenexa; brother, Wayne Walcher of Wichita; sister, Gladys Miller of Wellington; grandchildren, Joy L. Hallamore of Boise, Idaho and Jason A. Harryman of Anaheim, Calif. and great-grandchildren, Kaytlyn and Devyn of Boise, Idaho.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Kendale D. Finley officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven, Kan. Friends may call at the Frank Funeral Home today, from 1 to 9 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Harold's name with the Friendship Meals Program.

Mildred Elizabeth Lick

Mildred Elizabeth Lick, 81, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the South Central Kansas Reginal Medical Center in Arkansas City, Kan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at the Hawks Funeral Home with the Rev. Lance Carrithers officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City.

A memorial has been established iwht the First United Methodist Church, Arkansas City. Contributinos may be left at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home, Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Mildred was born on July 26, 1971 in Salina, Kan., the daughter of Floyd and Willie Aves Horne Satterlee. She was graduated from the Neodesha, Kan. High School and the John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

She married Marvin Donald Lick on May 14, 1945 in Neodesha, Kan. They lived in Wichita until moving to Arkansas City in 1960. They owned and operated the A-1 Engine and Bike Shop in Arkansas City from 1960 until 1979.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and T.O.P.S. club.

Survivors include her husband Marvin; one daughter Marcia Lick of Wellington, Kan.; two grandsons Derek Lick and his wife Deb of Warner, New Hampshire and Brian Lick and his wife Rebecca of Lee Summit, Mo., and two great-grandsons Samuel and Thomas Lick.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son Gordon Dean Lick; and two brothers Philip Satterlee and Jack Satterlee.

Arrangements are by Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Lela Martha Gardiner

Lela Martha Gardiner, was born September 19, 1907, in Indian Territory, near Okeene, Okla. Her parents, Wilbur and Idella McDonald Lodge were surprised to get not one baby, but two little girls. They joined an older sister Olive and later added one brother, Wilbur, and a baby sister, Idella.

The family moved from Okeene, to Cherokee, Okla. in 1920. She graduated from Ingersol High School, and worked to earn the money to attend nurses training. She and Leta trained at Halstead, Kan. under the Esteemed horse and buggy Doctor Hershler.

She met Eugene Gardiner through his college friend, Lewis Halverstadt. Romance blossomed and they were married on April 16, 1933 at Cherokee, Okla. Gene was the son of Thomas Edmond Gardiner and Augusta Shmidl.

Two children, Betty Jeanne and Edmond Wilber, were born to Lela and Gene. They lived on the family farm south of Oxford. Lela was a busy housewife and mother. Cooking and canning were the usual for her. Even driving the tractor, or trucks, if needed.

Eugene proceeded her in death in 1972. She continued to live at the farm and take care of the house until 1988, when she moved to a new house in Oxford.

Lela loved her church, having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a girl in high school. She was an active volunteer at the Friendship Center and put together many afghans for the needy. She loved to read and shared the resources willingly.

Proceeding her in death, besides her husband Eugene, her parents, sisters Olive Simmons and Idella Stokesberry.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jeanne and her husband, Harold Thompson of Wellington. Their children, Donna and Paul Hultman of Evans, Colo., Eldon of Salina, Kan., Ruth Rosine of Peabody, Kan. and Paul of Baltimore, Md; her son, Edmond and his wife Georgie of Oxford. Their son Steven Russell and his wife Lisa, of Arlington, Texas; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Leta Halverstadt of Oxford, Kan. and her brother, Wilbur Lodge of Cherokee, Okla.; 4 nephews and 3 nieces, a number of cousins. She will be missed by her family, and her many friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Gardiner died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City, Kan.

Funeral services will be held at the United Meythodist Church in Oxford on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Oxford Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church and the Oxford Friendship Meals, contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from noon to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Arrangements are by the Oxford Funeral Services, Oxford, Kan.

Betty Lou Palmer

Betty Lou Palmer died August 12, 2003 in Wellington, Kansas. She was born February 11, 1929 in Barton County, Missouri. Service of Remembrance was held at 2:00 p.m. on August 18, 2003 at the First Methodist Church in Wellington, Kansas. Pastor Walter Howery and Reverend Quentin Bennett officiated. Musical selections included "The Lord's Prayer", "Joyful, Joyful" and "We Adore Thee". Solo by Alan Lindal. "We Are Climbing Jacobs Ladder" Guitar by Carter Green, duet by Carter Green and Skeet Sirmons. "Amazing Grace" was played on the bagpipes by Greg Ewing. Organist was Annette Lindal. A Memorial Fund is set up at the National Parkinson Foundation.

Alice F. Lyne

Alice F. Lyne, 20-year-old wife of Steven Michael Lyne, mother of Derrick Lyne and Alex Lyne, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, from injuries sustained in a fire at her home.

Alice enjoyed living life and was free-spirited.

She was a dedicated and loving mother to the very end.

Alice is survived by her husband, Steven Michael Lyne and her son, Alex Tyler Lyne, both of Wellington; her mother, Caroline Rowley and companion Marc Crooks of Milan; brothers, Michael and James Rowley of Milan; father, Michael Rowley Sr. of Nebo, Ill.; eight uncles, five aunts and 14 cousins.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Hillside Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the Frank Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established with the Steve Lyne Family Fund at First National Bank.

Frank Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
