SUTLEY: Marjorie M. Sutley, 84 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Sunday, August 12th, 2007 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, Aug. 17th, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. John Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, Aug. 16th at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Hospice. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Marjorie M. Oswald was born on July 29, 1923 in Atchison, KS. the daughter of Earl G. and Jessie M. (Bush) Oswald. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1941. She was a housewife, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Circle 5, Mariners Club, sang in the church Choir. She was a member of the Independence Unit, the Junior Guild, and Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. Marjorie was a former Den Mother, and enjoyed her grandchildren and shopping.

She was married to William L. Sutley on Dec. 11, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Sutley preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1984. Survivors include two sons; David L. Sutley, and Steven P. Sutley, both of Atchison, KS., four grandchildren, Jasen,Carrie, Cindy, and Kelli and four great grandchildren.

DOMANN: Nora Mae Domann, 82, of Nortonville, KS died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 16, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Church in Nortonville, KS. Burial will follow in the Corpus Christi Cemetery in the Mooney Creek Community near Winchester, KS. A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 PM on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 with a rosary being recited at 8:00 PM at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Domann are suggested to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home. Nora was born on April 4, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Alexander and Nora (Plumlee) Hindman. She graduated from North Kansas City High School. Nora worked as a secretary for North American Aviation, Kansas City, MO before marrying Eugene Domann on April 28, 1947 in Kansas City, MO. After marriage they moved to Valley Falls where they farmed. Nora also worked during the 1970s for Saunders Mop Factory, Atchison, KS. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Altar Society, and the Ladies Guild, all of Nortonville, KS. Nora was also a member of the St. Joseph’s Church Rosary Guild where she had made around 5,000 rosaries for various Missions. Nora enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, gardening and playing cards with the ladies of the parish.

Survivors include one son, Richard Lee Domann of Buckeye, AZ; three daughters, Mary Jo Domann of McLouth, KS, Linda and her husband Ray Scott of Atchison, KS and Alice Domann of Ellsworth, KS; one sister Virgie Cumberford, Lone Jack, MO; 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents and husband Eugene.

BERRY: Alma Leona (Gerhardt) Berry, 77 years old, of Crestline, KS. died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO., following an illness.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14th, 2007 at the Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS., with Pastor Paul Duncan officiating. The body will be transported to the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, for a visitation from 1:30 PM on Wednesday, Aug. 15th, 2007 until 2:30 PM, when a Funeral service will be held at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Fund, or Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund. Alma L. Gerhardt was born on June 4, 1930 in Netawaka, KS., the daughter of William Henry and Hattie Leona (Vine) Gerhardt. She earned a Master Degree in Education at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS. and taught several years in a few Kansas School Systems including Parsons and Lawrence. She was operator of Sam’s Camper Sales in Crestline, Ks. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin, MO.

She was married to Howard Ray Berry on April 22, 1975 in Miami, OK. Mr. Berry preceded her in death on April 16, 1991.

Survivors include a brother, Arnold Gerhardt, Atchison, KS., four nieces, Terri Olson, Kathy Garrison, Kay Willis, and Sue Church, one nephew Larry Church, 2 grand nieces and one grand nephew.

LOVELADY: Mildred L. Lovelady, 86 years old of Atchison, KS. died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Aug. 11th, 2007 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com

Mildred Louise Lloyd, was born on June 25, 1921 in Troy, KS. the daughter of Leo Charles and Ida Isabelle (Chase) Lloyd, Sr. She graduated from Atchison High School and worked most of her life as a homemaker and housewife. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and cooking.

Mildred was married to Ernest L. Thomason in 1937. Mr. Thomason preceded her in death on June 16, 1985. She was later married to W.R. “Pete” Lovelady on Feb. 19, 1988. Mr. Lovelady also preceded her in death on July 26th, 2000. Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. JoAnn Wheatley, Palisade, CO., Wanda Barnes, Atchison, and Donna Summers, Town Creek, AL. and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, four brothers; Leo, Dennis, Charles, and William Lloyd, and two sisters; Norma J. and Nancy L. also preceded her in death.

MERCER: Della M. Mercer, 84, Atchison, KS passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Medicalodge of Atchison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home. Della was born June 22, 1923 near Monrovia, KS the daughter of Andy and Lula (Chase) Donovan. She attended Monrovia Schools. She enjoyed playing bingo and solving crossword puzzles. Della married Merle Mercer in 1945, they later divorced. Della especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great and great great grandchildren.

Della is survived by her children. Son, Larry Mercer and his wife Connie of Atchison, KS; daughters, Linda Grippin and her husband Robert of Atchison, KS; Lois Wohletz and her husband Bob of Atchison, KS; Nancy Wiltz and her husband Francis of Atchison, KS; Pamela Mercer-Ladesic and her husband Norman of Nortonville, KS; Penny Faulkender and her husband Greg of Overland Park, KS; and Rhonda Mercer of Emporia, KS. 21 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.

Della was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Mercer on April 14, 2007, 2 brothers, 1 sister and her parents.

VESSAR: Ruthann Vessar, 87, Cummings, KS passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at her home.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Monday, October 29, 2007 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial at Sumner Cemetery, south of Atchison. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Sumner Cemetery or the Achievement Services of Atchison and may be left in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Vessar was born October 31, 1919 in Atchison County, KS the daughter of James Frank and Martha (Vessar) Hundley. She was a member of the American Legion Post #6. Ruthann enjoyed shopping, playing cards, watching birds and hosting company. She loved cooking and spending time with her family.

Ruthann married Claude Gilbert “Gib” Vessar on May 21, 1938 in Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her son Terry Vessar in 1982; 4 sisters; 2 brothers and her parents.

Survivors include her sons Lawrence Vessar of Effingham; Rodger Vessar and his wife Patty of Atchison; Ronald Vessar and his wife Clara of Nortonville; and Robert Vessar and his wife Danna of Cummings; daughters Joyce Crossland and her husband Les of Atchison; Carol Cannon and her husband Jack of Cummings; Martha Card and her husband Aaron of Horton; Susan Neiman and her husband Dave of Atchison; and Tammy Brown and her husband Mike of Cummings. 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; and sister Bernice Brown of Atchison.

Leona A. Cooley, 93, Atchison, KS. died Monday, October 06, 2008 at the Atchison Hospital, Atchison, KS.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, Oct. 10th, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Hansen, Pastor of the Carol Baptist Church officiating . Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, Oct. 9th, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Carol Baptist Church. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Leona was born on December 27, 1914 in Atchison, KS. the daughter of William H. and Louise A. (Dunn) Dunsmore. She graduated from Atchison High School and worked as a homemaker and housewife. She was a member of the Carol Baptist Church, was a member and past president of the Atchison Garden Club, a member of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, the Beauceants, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Young at Heart Bible Study. She enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, reading and spending time with her family.

She was married to Farris W. Cooley on May 16, 1930 in Maysville, MO. Mr. Cooley preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1979. Her parents, a son; Farris William Cooley, Jr., and a brother; Arthur Dunsmore also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter; Diana Brown, Atchison, KS., four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Samuel L. "Bud" Coy, 86, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 4th at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB, officiating. Mr. Coy will be cremated following the service and private family burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM on Saturday until time of service at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Catholic Elementary Schools. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Samuel Leaman Coy was born on Aug. 12, 1922 in Severance, KS the son of Horace and Dora Mae (Ellis) Coy. He graduated from Severance High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a medic aboard transportation ships during World War II. Mr. Coy owned and operated for five years the Atchison Agency to deliver the Kansas City Star. He later worked as a district manager and finally the country circulation supervisor for Kansas for the Kansas City Star. He retired after 35 years with the paper. Mr. Coy was a Catholic, and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, former member of the V.F.W. Post #1175, Atchison, KS and enjoyed going to the casino, sports, reading, westerns, telling stories, and especially his family.

Bud was married to Betty J. Wood on June 23, 1962 in Miami, OK. Mrs. Coy survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; John Coy, Atchison, KS and Vernie Lee Coy, Wathena, KS; daughter Traci (Bob) Nolte, Atchison, KS; brother; Paul Coy, Atchison, KS and six grandchildren. His parents and two sisters; Shirley Ellsworth, and Jennie Higgins preceded him in death.
