Lyda Kathleen Bedwell

Lyda Kathleen Bedwell, 86, Wellington, passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 17, at Springview Manor, Conway Springs.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Day Funeral Home.

Gary Lee Hoyer

Gary Lee Hoyer, 75, of Gun Barrel, Texas, formerly of Wellington, a retired Santa Fe conductor died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens, Texas.

He was born the son of Henry William Hoyer and Mary Willisene Hoyer in Wellington on July 6, 1929. He spent his childhood in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1947. After attending one year at Kansas State University, known as Kansas State College at the time, Gary began his lifelong career with Santa Fe Railroad in Wellington retiring in December of 1990. Upon retirement, he moved to Donna, Texas where he resided at Victoria Palms Resort until he moved to be close to his sister in Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Gary was an upstanding member of the Winfield Elks Club # 732, Masonic Lodge # 150 A.F. & A.M., and Order of the Eastern Star Phoenix Chapter # 159 both of Wellington. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Midian Shrine Temple both of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Eugene Hoyer.

He is survived by his sister, Liz Hoyer Starcher and her husband Bob of Gun Barrel, Texas; step-daughter Kim Weber and husband Richard Weber of Pittsburgh, and step-grandchildren from a former marriage; a niece, nephews, grandniece, grand nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Services for Gary will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 in the chapel of the Day Funeral Home, Wellington. The Reverend Dr. Quentin Bennett will officiate. Masonic services will be conducted by the Wellington Masonic Lodge 150 A.F. & A.M.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 to sign the register book and enjoy memories of Gary. The family will meet and greet friends from 6pm to 8 p.m. Friday evening.

A mass will be held for Gary at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Wellington at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.

A memorial fund has been established with Wichita Scottish Rite Charitable Trust, 332 East First St., Wichita, Kansas 67202

Chad "Smurf" Lee

Chad "Smurf" Lee, 24, former member of Hollow Inside, current member of Malum and employee of Bad Rags, died Nov. 15, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at Broadway Mortuary Chapel.

Survivors include his son, Cain Szandor Le-Ray; mother and stepfather, Vickie and Jack Lollar; brothers, Jason Lee and Kenneth Lee; step-brothers, Michael Lollar and Christopher Lollar; half-sister, Christina; grandmother, Carol Bradford; great-grandmothers, Stella N. Angleton and Orbie Bradford; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins & friends.

Services by Broadway Mortuary.

Arlene Crump

Arlene Crump, 58, of Wellington, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 17, 2004 in Wellington.

She was born April 29, 1946 in Topeka, Kan., to Forest Coleman and Mildred Starks. She and her twin sister Darlene were adopted by Ray and Retha McGaugh.

Survivors include her adoptive mother, Retha McGaugh of Wellington, her children, Charles Ray, Victoria Arlene and Kenneth Dale all of Newton, sisters Janis Coleman and Barbara Wright of California and Plu Coleman of Arizonia, brothers Lary Coleman of Topeka and LeRoy Starks of California, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was married to Wiley Crump and he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister Darlene, brother Craig, daughter Mary Ann and her adopted father Ray and her birth parents, Ray Coleman and Mildred Starks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Hawks Funeral Home with Rev. Virgil French officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Family and friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Friday and until service time on Saturday.

Arrangements are by Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington.

Murl O. Lintecum

Murl Oris Lintecum, 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He was a former Mayfield resident where he had lived since 1960. He lived in Nickerson from 1944 to 1960. Murl moved to Wellington in 1997.

Murl had been the manager of the Mayfield Co-Op and had worked many years in the Mayfield Grocery Store and Locker as a meat cutter. He managed the Mayfield Oil Company for several years before going to work at Plessey Midwest in Wellington as a machinist. He retired from Midwest in 1989.

Murl was born August 18, 1918 in Englevale to Adah (Elliott) and William Jennings Bryan Lintecum. He attended the Lone Star Elementary School, a country school in rural Pretty Prairie and also the Pretty Prairie High School. He married Lillian Carithers in Hutchinson on November 1, 1941. Two months later, in January of 1942, Murl left for the U.S. Army where he served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

Murl enjoyed all aspects of farming; particularly agriculture and livestock. He was a member of the Harper Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

His parents, one son, Stephen Murl Lintecum and one daughter, Dee-Dee Lintecum, and a brother, John Lee Lintecum, preceded Mr. Lintecum in death.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lillian Lintecum of the home in Wellington, two sons, Roger Lintecum of Wellington and James of Halstead, three daughters, Sandra Price of Wichita, Terri Lintecum of Lawrence, and Dana Lintecum of Winfield, one brother, Ewell Winston Lintecum of Hutchinson, four sisters; Maxine Castle of Hutchinson, Irene Brown of Haven, Arlene Reese of Nixa, Mo., and Betty Warner of Hutchinson, 10 grandchildren; Rochelle Darbe and Bryan Lintecum of Halstead, Cam Price of Cleveland, Ohio, Ashley Stoll of Durango, Colo., Robin Davis and Misty Lintecum of Wichita, Jennifer Lintecum of Wellington, Tagg Carroll of New Jersey, Matt Carroll of Lawrence, and Ollie Johnson of Seattle, Wash. and 7 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield with the Reverend Kendale d. Finley officiating.

Friends may call at the Frank Funeral Home on Friday, from noon to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice Care of Kansas.

Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Paul Luna

Paul Luna, 77, of Caldwell, died early Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2004 at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wellington.

Services are pending and will be announced later by the Day Funeral Home.

Stanton "Stan" Matlock

Funeral services for Stanton "Stan" Matlock, 52, of Wellington, who died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Wellington, were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 in the chapel of the Day Funeral Home, Wellington. Pastor Phillip Wylie of the First Southern Baptist Church officiated. Recorded music played was "Amazing Grace."

Casketbearers were Scott Matlock, Shawn Matlock, Jack Myers, Robert Stuart, Randy Stuart, and Richard Stuart.

Honorary Casketbearers were Mike Matlock, Billy Matlock, and members of his Wichita Rugby Team.

Interment was held in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington. Full Military Honors were provided the United State Army, Fort Riley.

A memorial has been established in his name and loving memory with the Samuel Matlock Education Fund, c/o Day Funeral Home, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left at the funeral home.

Matthew Levi Louise Thompson

Funeral services were held for Matthew Thompson, 23, on Wednesday Nov. 24, 2004, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita. A graveside service was held in Sedan. A memorial tribute service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Lawrence Public Library.

Survivors include his mother Georgina Abasolo, Lawrence; father, Robert and Nancy Thompson, Wichita; two Sisters, Amy Cox, Murrieta, Calif., and Michaelene (Cox) Contreras, and husband, Arthur Contreras of Arkansas City; nephew, Anthony Contreras, Arkansas City; grandmothers, Ruth Abasolo, Wellington, and Wilma Thompson, Sedan.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jesus Abasolo, and Kenneth Thompson.

Affinity Mortuary, Wichita, was in charge of services.

Geraldine "Gerry" Lappan

Geraldine "Gerry" Lappan, 70, of Caldwell, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born the daughter of George and Lucy Belle (Tibbits) Baker on March 26, 1934 at Herington.

Gerry attended elementary and secondary school in Herington and graduated from Herington High School. She attended 1 1/2 years of nurses training at Wesley Hospital, before marrying Jim Lappan December 25, 1953 in Newton.

They moved to Valley Center where she raised her family and lived there for 35 years. While residing in Valley Center she was a secretary at the Valley Center Junior High School and later went to work for Pizza Hut Corporate Office, where she worked until she retired.

She was also a charter member of the Valley Center Players and a member of the Valley Center Sweet Adeline's. After moving to Caldwell, and because of Gerry's love of antiques, she and Jim bought and opened the Victorian Rose antique store.

She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Caldwell Historical Society, a member of the Talking Tombstones, PEO and Chamber of Commerce.

Gerry was preceded in death by her father and mother; George and Lucy Baker and her brother Herbert Baker Wimberly.

She is survived by her husband Jim of Caldwell; son, William Lappan and his wife Ruth of Potwin; daughter Cheryl Acuff and her husband Matt of Potwin; 11 grandchildren, an uncle Loren Fred of Wichita, an aunt, Lena Tibbits of Oklahoma City, Okla., mother-in-law Margaret Lappan of El Dorado and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Caldwell. Rev. Jan McDaniel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Geraldine's name and loving memory to the Caldwell United Methodist Church or to the Caldwell Historical Society.
