Marie D. Gower

Services for Marie Darlene Gower, 71, KC Colony Development near Edwards, Mo., were held Monday at the Colony Baptist Church in KC Colony.

Burial was in the Mossy Cemetery, Edwards, Mo. The family suggests memorials to the Colony Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gower died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at the home. She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Wyandotte High School. She and her husband made their home in Wyandotte County, Kan., for 25 years. During that time she owned and operated Marie's Bookkeeping and Tax Service. She moved to KC Colony in 1980. She was a member of the Osage Valley Chapter No. 502 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Warsaw, Mo., the Moose Lodge Auxiliary No. 1964, San Xavier, Ariz., the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1100, Merriam, Kan., and served as secretary/treasurer of the KC Colony Lot Owners Association.

Her first husband, Irvin John Penn Jr., died in 1972; and one step-son, Gene Gower, Hollister, Mo., died in 1999.

Surviving are her husband of 24 years, Harold R. Gower, of the home; three sons, Jimmie Lee Penn, Ft. Lupton, Colo., Steven Ray Penn, Littleton, Colo., and John Irvin Penn, Warsaw; one daughter, Marguerite Marie Gower, Detroit, Mich.; two step-sons, Gary Dean Gower, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Rick Gower, KCK; three step-daughters, Sandy Coats, Bonner Springs, Judy Kolman, KCK, and Diane Kinnard, Lee's Summit, Mo.

Arlene J. Jewett

Memorial services for Arlene J. Jewett, 75, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Baptist Church.

Cremation with private committal services. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 8822 Parallel, KCK 66112. The Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jewett died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, after a long illness. She was born May 16, 1925. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

Her father, Alvin Grout; and one sister, Joan Burnett, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Lawrence D. Jewett, of the home; two sons, Raymond I. Jewett, Mission, Kan., and Donald L. Jewett, Kansas City, Mo.; her mother, Esther Grout, KCK; two brothers, Stan Group, Springhill, Fla., and Ken Grout, Shawnee, Kan.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Ruth A. Jones

Ruth Ann Jones, 51, Kansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the home.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Funeral Home, Kansas Chapel, KCK.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was born April 15, 1949.

Surviving are one son, Dewayne Jones, KCK; her father, Albert Ward, KCK; and six sisters, Bertha Muhammed, Portland, Ore., Deloris Anderson, JoAnn Reliford and Loretta Jackson, all of KCK, Vergiana Wright and Helen Graham, both of Kansas City, Mo.

Irene H. Jordan

Services for Irene Hansen Jordan, 91, Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK.

Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery, Hillsdale, Kan. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jordan died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Atlanta. She was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Plains, Kan. and was reared in Preston, Kan. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1931 with a bachelor's degree in music education. She was a teacher in Kansas and later taught second grade at William Allen White School in KCK from 1967 to 1970. She also gave piano lessons. During retirement. she had traveled with her husband around the world extensively. She was a member of the First Pilgrim Congregational Church, PEO Chapter FX, a lifetime member of the Eastern Star Shamrock Chapter 36, Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and World Travel Club.

Her husband of 54 years, Marvin C. Jordan, died in 1992.

Surviving are one son, Bruce W. Jordan, Ferandina Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Anne Jordan Rhodus, Atlanta; one sister, Joanne Geesling, Turan, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Emil J. Klingele

A Funeral Liturgy for Emil J. Klingele, 95, Kansas City, Kan., was held today at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd, KCK.

Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the church. The Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Klingele died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Providence Place, KCK. He was born Dec. 20, 1905, in KCK, and was a lifetime resident. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He worked 50 years at Colgate-Palmolive, retiring in 1971. He played semi-professional baseball as a young man and enjoyed coaching softball teams.

His wife, Mary Cecilia Klingele, died in 1992.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Stout, Albuquerque, N.M., and Sharon Chapman, Crestview, Fla.; four sons, Eugene Klingele, Basehor, Kan., Lawrence Klingele, Ottawa, Kan., Kenneth Klingele, Independence, Mo., and Richard Klingele, Wildwood, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lorene McDermott

Graveside services for Lorene McDermott, 82, Augusta, Kan., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Park Cemetery, KCK.

The Dunsford Funeral Home. Augusta, is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Augusta, or the Augusta Public Library, Children's Books.

Mrs. McDermott died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in August.

Surviving are one son, Michael McDermott, Augusta; one sister, Caroline Feridell, KCK; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dennis M. Richardson

Services for Dennis Michael "Mike" Richardson, 49, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Maple Hill Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Richardson died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Indian Meadows Nursing Center. He was a lifelong KCK resident. He worked as a security guard for Wells Fargo and for Central Security for several years before becoming a mail clerk for United Farm Real Estate, leaving there in 1982. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, KCK, and for the last 28 years had attended Full Faith Church of Love. In the early 1970's, he was active in the House of Agape Bible Study.

His parents, Earl Richardson Jr., and Margaret Richardson; and one sister, Nyla K. Cone, all preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia B. Richardson, of the home; one daughter, Sarah C. Richardson, Overland Park, Kan.; and one brother, Skip Richardson, KCK.

Maxine M. Saxton

Services for Maxine Mildred Saxton, 79, Pomona, Calif., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Quindaro, Kansas City, Kan.

Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Lawrence A. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Kansas Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Saxton died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Reche Canyon Rehabilitative Facilities in Pomona. She was born June 26, 1921, in KCK. She had been a laborer at the Lake City Ammunition Plant. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quindaro.

Surviving are five sisters, Edythe Burns and Jeanette Guliford, both of KCK, Doris Byers, Vivian Counse and Jacquelyne Owens, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and one special nephew, Rodney C. Guliford, Falls Church, Va.

Rudolph Schoenberger

A Funeral Mass for Rudolph "Rudy" Schoenberger, 60, Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Hillsdale, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Paola, Kan.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Paola. The family suggests memorials to American Cancer. The Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schoenberger died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Shawnee Mission Gardens Nursing Home.

Nellie Shaffer

Services for Nellie Shaffer, 76, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawrence A. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Kansas Chapel, 2065 N. 5th, KCK.

Cremation. Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shaffer died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Bethany Medical Center. She was born in Kansas City, Mo.

Surviving are three daughters, Priscilla E. Lindsey, Denver, Colo., Patricia S. Freeman and Bernetta C. McKindra, both of KCK; one son, R. J. Shaffer, California; 15 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Nellie M. Shoemaker

Graveside services for Nellie Marie Shoemaker, 93, Bozeman, Mont., will be held Friday, Jan. 19, at the Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Kan.

The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, 26 W. Babcock, Bozeman, Mont. 59715. The Dokken-Nelson Funeral Home, Bozeman, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shoemaker died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Edgewood Vista in Bozeman, where she had resided since July.

She was born July 20, 1907, in Osawatomie, Kan. She was married in 1929, and had lived in Utah for several years, returning later to Kansas, settling in Topeka, to be close to family. They owned a Texaco service station and then built and owned the Nod-Away Motel until retirement. Due to failing health, they moved to Bozeman. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bozeman.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl Shoemaker; her parents, Louis and Amelia Homrighausen; two sisters; and one brother.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Delk, Huntsville, Ala., and Bonnie Landerdahl, Bozeman; five grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.

Dorothy C. Wilch

Services for Dorothy C. Wilch, 86, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, 5010 Parallel Ave., KCK 66104 or to the Kansas City Presbyterian Manor, 7850 Freeman, KCK 66112.

Mrs. Wilch died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at the Providence Medical Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Topeka, Kan., and was a resident of KCK for more than 50 years. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, and received her teacher's certificate from Emporia state Teacher's College. She had been a teacher in Shawnee County, Kan., and a substitute teacher in the KCK USD 500 school district. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a member of its Akita Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Bethel Post, VFW Women's Auxiliary, and the Sunflower Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was recognized for her outstanding volunteerism at the Kansas City Presbyterian Manor.

Her husband, Kyle Wilch, died in 1995.

Surviving are two sons, Dale Wilch, KCK, and Leon Wilch, Falls Church, Va.; two daughters, Ellen Hill and Anita Andrews, both of KCK; one brother, Harry L. Chubb, Topeka, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Walter L. Wilson

Services for Walter L. Wilson, 59, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Funeral Home, Kansas Chapel, KCK.

Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 1o to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilson died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Medicalodge East. He was born April 1, 1940, in Charleston, Mo. He was a laborer for Associated Grocers.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Wilson Jr., Joe Lee Rivers, and Quinton Van Troy; one daughter, Tommy Wilson; his mother, Beatrice Wilson; four brothers, John Wilson, James Wilson, Thomas Wilson and Willie Wilson; one sister, Bettie Ruff, all of KCK; and four grandchildren.

Tiffany D. Brooks

Services for Tiffany Danielle Brooks, 11-months, Kansas City, Kan., were held Saturday at the Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Baby Tiffany died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Bethany Medical Center. She was born March 7, 2000, in KCK, and was a lifelong resident.

Surviving are her father, DeNorval Brooks Jr., Kansas City, Mo.; her mother, Felica D. Roach; one brother, Lowrance Moore, both of KCK; her maternal grandparents, Samuel and Claudia Roach, Wichita, Kan.; her paternal grandfather, DeNorval Brooks Sr.; her paternal grandmother, Deborah Brooks; both of Denver, Colo.; her great-grandparents, Frank and Margaret Patterson, K. C., Mo.; and Mason and Jean Thomas, KCK; and her great-grandfather, John Elias, Coffeyville, Kan.
