Albert J. Dercher

A Mass of Christian Burial for Albert J. Dercher, 76, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., KCK.

Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests memorials to Christ the King Catholic Church. The Skradski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dercher died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Providence Medical Center. He was born in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. He was employed for more than 42 years at the General Motors Assembly Division-Fairfax. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the VFW-Strawberry Hill Post No. 7026., and the Holy Family Social Club. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.

Three brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Dorothy M. Dercher, of the home; one son, Bruce Dercher, Weatherby Lake, Mo.; one brother, Frank Dercher, KCK; one sister, Theresa Ruzick, Shawnee, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Herbert I. Duckworth

Graveside services for Herbert I. "Hank" Duckworth, 88, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.

The Joseph A. Butler and Son Funeral Home, 19th and Minnesota Ave., KCK, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Duckworth died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the home. He was born in Iowa and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked for Phillips Petroleum before his retirement.

Gene I. Galvan

Services for Gene I. Galvan, 76, Kansas City, Kan., were held Monday at the St. Joseph-St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Burial was in the Mount Calvary Mausoleum. The Butler-Fulton-Nickel Funeral Home, 22 S. 18th St., KCK, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Galvan died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Atherton, Mo. He worked for Missouri Portland Cement Co. in Sugar Creek, Mo. He was a member of St. Joseph-St. Benedict Catholic Church; the American Legion; and Armourdale Association. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He also had been a foster father to many children.

His wife, Mary R. Galvan, died Nov. 26, 2000.

Surviving are one son, Alberto J. Galvan, Lee's Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Yvonne Galvan Orozco, of the home; one brother, Fred Galvan, Independence, Mo.; three sisters, Anita Rodrigez, Kansas City, Mo., Nestroa Polina, and Mary Townsend, both of Independence, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Burl L. Gillespie

Services for Burl L. Gillespie, 53, Mound City, Kan., were held today at the Cedar Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 32665 Lexington Ave., DeSoto, Kan.

Burial was in the Union Cemetery, Shawnee, Kan.

Mr. Gillespie died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at the home. He was born March 29, 1948, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He was an over-the-road truck driver for 18 years. He also enjoyed playing country and gospel music.

His parents, Clifton and Gertrude Marie Gillespie; and one sister, Yvonne Miller, all preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children, Clifton L. Schow, Shannon L. Sanborn and Brandy S. Gillespie, all of Leavenworth, Kan., Glenn A. Schow, Herndon, Va., Burl L. Gillespie II, Shawnee, Kan., Steven W. Gillespie, Gardner, Kan., Shawn E. Gillespie, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Stacy L. Krallman, Topeka, Kan.; three sisters, Aloma Sterling, Kansas City, Kan., Dee Kieffaber, Lenexa, Kan., and Dawn L. Vinson, Weableau, Mo.; one brother, Clifton S. Gillespie, Kansas City, Kan.; and 14 grandchildren.

Margaret Lambeth

Services for Margaret Lambeth, 79, Wellsville, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan.

Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lambeth died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Specialty Hospital, Overland Park, Kan. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., and had grown up in the Rosedale area of KCK. She worked as an Avon representative for more than 30 years and had been a Girl Scout leader for 10 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Gilliland, Lebanon, Mo., and Sue Lambeth, Blanco, Texas; two sons, Danny Lambeth, Wellsville, and Steve Lambeth, Rantoul, Kan.; one brother, Benny Stephens, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

NORMAN W. LIKES

Norman W. Likes

Memorial services for Norman W. Likes, 84, Omaha, Neb., will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Omaha.

The family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.

Mr. Likes died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in Omaha, where he had lived the past 40 years. He was born April 20, 1917, and raised in Kansas City, Kan. He served in the Marine Corps, First Division, as a Sergeant during World War II. After the war he entered the lighting business with Brilliant Lighting, and then became an independent sales agent representing differing light fixture manufacturers throughout the Midwest. In 1976, he joined the Ronald W. Likes Company Sales Agency, where he not only worked with his son, for many years, but got to work with and train his grandson, Carter, for the past six years. He was a member of the Roger E. Sherman Masonic Lodge and the Abdallah Shrine.

His parents, Thelma and Dewey Likes; one brother, Kenneth Likes; and one sister, Dorothy Armstrong, all preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Ronald W. Likes, Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Pat Gaunce and Irene Anderson, both of Kansas City, Kan.; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Jim M. Parker

Services for Jim M. Parker, 58, St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Gower, Mo., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery, Gower, where military honors will be given under the direction of the American Legion Post 359. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Parker died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. He was born May 19, 1943, in St. Joseph, where he attended school and grew up. He and his wife moved to Gower in 1972, and in 1990, he returned to St. Joseph. He later served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for General Motors at the Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, Kan., for more than 25 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union in Kansas City and the American Legion Post 359 in St. Joseph.

His wife of 25 years, Jo Nelson Parker, died in 1988; and one grandson, Christian Russell, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Sherry Lynn Parker, Deborah Kay Crockett and Jamie Jo Russell; his parents, Harold and Floy Moser; one sister, Jeanetta Caw, all of St. Joseph; several nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren.

Robert L. Abston

Funeral services for Robert L. Abston, 72, Kansas City, Kan., will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 609 M. 18th St., KCK.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Abston died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Kansas University Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1929 in Holly Grove, Ark. He was an auto mechanic at Broadway Ford. He was a member of the male chorus at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmie Abston, Detroit, Mich., Anthony Abston, KCK; one step-son, the Rev. Sedell Campbell, Muskogee, Okla.; three daughters, Arwillow C. Bailey, Detroit, Mich., Renee Abston, Tuscon, Ariz., and Nikita Charles, KCK; and one sister, Myrtle Strong, KCK.

Nancy J. Garland

Private burial services for Nancy J. Garland, 54, St. Louis, Mo., are pending at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

Memorial services will be held at Piper Palm House, St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 2. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Ms. Garland died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She was born in 1947 in Kansas City, Kan. She attended Washington High School at St. Louis University. She was a supervisor in the assessor's office in St. Louis.

Surviving are two sons, Eddie E. McNeil III and Kent W. McNeil; her mother, Ruth Ann Pestock of KCK; one sister, Sue A. Campbell; one granddaughter, many aunts, uncles cousins and friends.

Linda L. New Jones

A memorial service for Linda Lucille New Jones, 58, Kansas City, Kan., will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Overland Park Presbyterian Church.

Ms. Jones died Saturday, Oct., 27, 2001 at Kansas University Medical Center. The family suggests memorial contributions to a saving account set up for Jessica Rogers at Commerce Bank.

Surviving are her daughter, Julie Rogers, Liberty, Mo.; two sons, Gary Jones, Iowa, and David Jones, Kansas City, Mo.; her mother, Dorothy Keller, Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Sue Sharp and Barb Smith, both of Overland Park; one brother, John New, Bucyrus, Kan.; one granddaughter, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Clara G. Longwell

Funeral services for Clara G. Longwell, 68, Kansas City, Kan., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Mausoleum in St. Joseph, Mo.

Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the mausoleum. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. The Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service Savannah Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Longwell died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in Savannah, Mo. She was born Jan. 25, 1933 in St. Joseph, Mo., and had lived there, in Kansas City, Moo., and most recently, Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Central High School where she sang in the concert choir and was a member of the Quill and Scroll Club. She was employed as an executive secretary for Steven Hats. She also worked for Hillyard Chemical Co., First National Bank in St. Joseph and City National Bank, Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter E. Garrison; two brothers, Charles Garrison and Sonny Garrison; one sister, Mary Wilson; two half-sisters, Lavern Sully and Erma Stutes; and one grandson, Richard Garrison.

Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Garrison, Lansing, Kan.; her mother, Mary Dubowsky, Gladstone, Mo.; three brothers, Billy Garrison and Joseph Garrison, both of Amazonia, Mo., and Paul Garrison, St. Joseph; three sisters, Susan Mitchell, Atlantic, Iowa, Charlene Keck, Cosby, Mo., and Gloria Davenport, Gladstone; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

ROBERT L. WATSON SR.

Robert. L. Watson Sr.

Funeral services for Robert L. Watson Sr., 85, Kansas City, Kan., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Harvest Church in Kansas City, Mo., north of the river.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel, of 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Watson died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at the home. He was born Feb. 21, 1916 in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1936, where he excelled in athletics. He married Frances Elizabeth Banks in 1937. He coached the Quindaro Hawks baseball team for four years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed at Helzer Truck Lines. He was plant supervisor at RCA Victor Distribution Corp. from which he retired after 20 years of service. After retirement, he served as secretary/treasurer of Teamster Local Union 956 for five years. He was a former member of Quindaro Church of God in Christ. He was a member of the Cornerstones Ministry and of Harvest Church.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Frances Watson and Delores Ann Coleman.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Frances Watson; five sons, Robert L. Watson Jr., Claude E. Watson, Claude E. Watson, Roy L. Watson, and Carl. N. Watson; two daughters, Gwendolyn J. Know and Ileana Spearman, all of the Kansas City area; 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pauline L. Chapman

Graveside services for Pauline L. Chapman, 81, Kansas City, Kan., will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Royal Terrace Nursing Home in Olathe, Kan. She was born in Waverly, Mo., and had lived in the Kansas City area for the past 57 years.

Surviving are three sons, Albert Chapman, Edgerton, Kan., Edward Chapman, KCK, and Charles Chapman, Gardner, Kan.; three daughters, Sylvia Starkey, Ottawa, Kan., Doris Hughes, Circle Pine, Minn., and Sharon Johnson, Edwards, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
