Patricia A. (Pat) Oliver

Patricia A. (Pat) Oliver, 76, passed away in Las Vegas, on Sept. 28, 2003. Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Pat was born Nov. 8, 1926, and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kan.

Pat is survived by her three sons, Dan Flanigan, Fairway, Kan., and Mark Oliver, Pahrump, Nevada, John Oliver, Las Vegas; one daughter, Micki Basile, Mission, Kan.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice.

John "Jack" James Ryan

John "Jack" James Ryan, 78, Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the Rosary was said at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Sisters, Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th St., KCK 66102.

Jack was born April 19, 1925, in KCK.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Ryan, of the home; four sons, Stephen Ryan, KCK, David Ryan, Mound City, Kan., Dennis Ryan, Crestview, Fla., and Thomas Ryan, KCK; five daughters, Elaine Campbell, Kathleen Hanson and Jeanne Sutton, all of KCK, Susan Ryan Pitts, Shawnee, Kan., and Karen Ryan, Lenexa, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; two step-sons; and one great-grandson; two brothers, William Ryan, KCK, Alfred Ryan, Liberty, Mo.; and one sister, Helen Schranz, Parkville, Mo.; and special friend Lupe Pacheco.

Elah M. Beard

Elah M. Beard, 56, of Kansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2003 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12 at Joseph A. Butler and Sons Funeral Home. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Beard was born in Jefferson City, Mo.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene F. Beard of the home, two sons, Donald Kielman and Vidal "Tad" Martin; two daughters, Sally Elro and Lisa McIntosh; her mother Gertrude Clark; two brothers, Clifford Clark and Alan Clark; three sisters, Stella Leija, Juanita Shockley and Shelah Clark.

Hazel Davis

Hazel Davis, 99, Kansas City, Kan., died Dec. 8, 2003, at Providence Place. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Mason Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

She was born Aug. 18, 1904, in Phillips, Okla.

Mary Kay Draskovich

Mary Kay Draskovich, 43, Kansas City, Kan., passed away from complications of Krohns Disease on Dec. 10, 2003, at KU Med Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Dec. 13 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be said at 6:30 p.m. The family requests any contributions be made to KU Med Center.

Mary Kay was born Oct. 31, 1960, in KCK, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1978 graduate of Ward High School. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Essie and Bernard Franchette.

Survivors include her mother, Janice Stevenson, of the home; two brothers, Nick Draskovich, Branson, Mo., and Rick Draskovich, of the home; one sister, Angela Tyler and her companion, Tom Warner, KCK; one niece and nephew that were the loves of her life, Zachardy Thomas Warner and Kelsie Tyler; two aunts and one uncle, Marilyn Johnson, Edwardsville, and Pam and Bud Franchette, Spring Hill, and many cousins.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and the staff of KU Med Center for the care that they gave to Mary Kay that went above and beyond their call of duty, especially Dr. Jamison Forrester and his team.

Edith Marie Fitzpatrick

Edith Marie Fitzpatrick, 83, Dec. 11, 2003, in Olathe, Kan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Porter Funeral Home, where friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Olathe Medical Center Hospice.

Edith was born in Monterey, Tenn., on Jan. 25, 1920. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Perry C. Smith, on March 15, 2970.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence L. Fitzpatrick, of the home; one daughter, Donna Sue Alexander, KCK; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews.

William T. Hatfield

William T. Hatfield, 24, Kansas City, Kan., died in Kansas City, Kan. Services will be 11 a.m. Dec. 12, at the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Kansas Chapel. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 12 at the funeral home. Burial in Sunset Gardens.

He was born Jan. 14, 1979, in Bastrop, La.

Survivors include his mother, Beverly D. Hatfield, KCK; his father, Michael Jones, Los Angeles; one brother, Shedrick Hatfield; and two sisters, Tiameka L. Rankin, and Cynthia D. Hatfield, both of KCK.

Joseph Edwards Marth

Joseph Edwards Marth, 90, Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Providence Medical Center. As a young man, Joseph owned and managed a retail grocery store in Detroit, Mich., for five years before entering the Army. He served as a meal inspector in England, France and Germany for four years during World War II. After separation from the Army, he worked for Chrysler Corp. in assembly. He was a union mediator and member of the U.A.W.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Esther L. Marth, KCK; two step-daughters, Sue Davidson, KCK, and Jean McElwee, Minneapolis, Minn.; one stepson, Harold Warner, Port Huron, Mich.; one step-daughter, Margaret Wade, Michigan; one brother, John Marth and wife Pat, Port Huron, Mich.; three step-granddaughters, Gail Ann Schultz, Springfield, Mo., Kendra McElwee, Tucson, Ariz., Shawn Thornton, Fort Wayne, Ind.; two step-grandsons, Mark Warner, Michigan; Matthew McElwee, Maple Grove, Minnesota; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Meyers Family Funeral Home. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the funeral home. Interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Marjorie M. McCray

Marjorie M. nee Mullin McCray, 75, Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital, Breese, Ill. Services will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, and from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Private burial at Jefferson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wolf Branch School for the Marjorie McCray Memorial Fund.

She was born in Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elwell E. McCray, her parents, Ralph W. and Effie J. nee Banghart Mullin; two half-brothers, Miles Mullin and Bob Mullin; and one half-sister, Lavina Mullin.

Survivors include her husband, David Spickelmire; four children, Jeanice Anderson, New Baden, Ill., Wayne McCray, Carbondale, Ill., Darlene McCray, Berkeley, Calif., and Lynda McCray, Belleville, Ill.; two brothers, Ralph Mullin, Warrensburg, Mo., and Paul Mullin, Waco, Texas; three step-daughters, Becky Rinkes, 29 Palms, Calif., Patricia Fowler, Yucca Valley, Calif., and Barbara Breazeale, Mission Viajo, Calif.; and one step-grandson.

Mitchell E. Moorehead

Mitchell E. Moorehead, 61, Kansas City, Kan., died Dec. 8, 2003, at the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be noon Monday, Dec. 15, at the J. W. Jones Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 15, at the chapel. Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Zania L. Moorehead, KCK; one son, Brian Keith Ledbetter, KCK; one daughter, Michelle Delyn Smith, Atlanta; one stepdaughter, Elonda Hayes, KCK; and one grandchild.

Dennis Eugene Nelson

Dennis Eugene Nelson, 44, Garnett, Kan., formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 10., 2003, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kan. The family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. Cremation. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through dengelmortuary@sbcglobal.net.

He was born Aug. 18, 1959, in Van Buren, Ark. He was preceded in death by his father, Winford Nelson, and his mother, Ellen Nelson-Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica Nelson, of the home; three sons, Andrew Nelson, Leavenworth, Kan., David Nelson, Blue Mound, Kan., Steven Burnett, Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Sharon McDowell, Edwardsville, and Brenda Bollinger, Ozarks, Mo.; and one granddaughter.

James C. Chaney

Services for James C. Chaney, 54, Edwardsville, Kan., will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. Sixth St., Kansas City, Kan.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Cancer Action Inc., 1831 Minnesota Ave., KCK 66102 or Hospice Preferred Care, 11020 Ambassador Drive, Suite 305, Kansas City, Mo. 64105.

Mr. Chaney died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Edwardsville Manor. He was born March 22, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas, and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1965. He was a self-employed auto mechanic, retiring in 1997. He was a Southern Baptist.

Surviving are one son, James C. Chaney II, Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Jill C. Broderick, KCK; one sister; and four grandchildren.

Jennece L. Cornwell

Services for Jennece L. Cornwell, 53, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Highland Park Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Cornwell died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. She was a registered nurse, retiring from Bethany Medical Center. She had also worked for Medical Group P.A. She was a past member of London Heights Baptist Church and London Heights Methodist Church. She was a member of the Cernech Neighborhood Watch Association, where she was on the board. She was also a member of the Wyandot Campers and RV'ers, and the Happy Pairs Square Dance Club.

Her father, John Lloyd and one sister, Linda Harvey, both preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband, Harry J. Cornwell, of the home; one son, Darren Cornwell, Olathe, Kan.; one daughter, Kerri Sanchez, KCK; her mother, Betty Lloyd, KCK; one sister, Peggy Forbes, KCK; and three grandchildren.

Jimmie L. McGee

Services for Jimmie L. McGee, 47, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Charter Funerals, 10250 W. 63rd St., Merriam, Kan.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. McGee died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Bethany Medical Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1952, in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. He was employed with Owens-Illinois for 19 years.

His father, James McGee, and one sister Minnie Louise McGee, who was stillborn, preceded him in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Maretta Brown, Tulsa, Okla.; his mother, Irene McGee; one brother, Kenneth McGee, both of KCK; two sisters, Audrey Stevenson, KCK, and Joanna Bradford, Libertyville, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

John F. Troha

Graveside services for John F. Troha, Kansas City, Kan., were held today at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center, 720 N. Fourth St., KCK 66101 or to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Troha died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the home. He was born in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. He was an electrician, retiring from the I.B.E.W. Union Local 24. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea, and he was a Catholic.

His wife, Florence Troha; his parents, Frank J. Troha and Caroline Cindrich, all preceded him in death.

Surviving are one step-son, Robert F. Branning, Lenexa, Kan; one step-daughter, Janet Branning, Merriam, Kan.; one sister, Dorothy Kolich, Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

William R. Cowans

Services for William R. Cowans, 74, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelistic Center Church of God in Christ, KCK.

Burial will be in the Fort Leavenworth Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Cowans died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at the home. He was born May 23, 1926, in Topeka, Kan. He was a laborer for Griffin Wheel Co. He was a member of the Evangelistic Center Church of God in Christ, and was an Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Giebreth R. Cowans, of the home; five sons, Edward Barnes, Damon Henderson, Robert Moore, Dwayne Moore, all of KCK, and Joseph Jones, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Andrea Gragg and Giebreth Newton, both of KCK; one sister, Helen Fisher, Omaha, Neb.; and 15 grandchildren.
