Melvin H. Baker, 69, Harrisonville, Mo., died Oct.. 5, 2003. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Diane Marie Carvin

Diane Marie Carvin, 47, Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 2, 2003, at KU Med Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. at the church. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 8, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors include one son, Edward Carvin Jr., KCK; seven daughters, Micko Carvin and Marquette Carvin, both of, Aurora, Colo., Michelle Carvin, Maya Carvin, Margo Carvin, Melinda Carvin, Megan Carvin, all of KCK; her mother, Willie B. Anderson, KCK; two brothers, Amos Anderson and Dwight Anderson, both of KCK; two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Pamela Henderson, both of KCK; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

John O. Cooper

John O. Cooper, 71, Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Providence Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Porter Funeral Home. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private family burial services. Memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 15301 W. 87th St., Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66219, or to Grandview Park Presbyterian Church, 1613 Wilson Blvd., KCK, 66102.

John was born Nov. 13, 1931, in KCK.

He is survived by his wife, Reva M. Cooper, of the home; six daughters, Sherry Lysaught, Robin Parrish, Claudia Cooper, Karen Maldonado, Rita Roberts, and Jackie Grier; one son, George Cooper; one sister, Eleanor Rebeck; and eight grandchildren.

Theodore Davis

Theodore Davis, 60, Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 4, 2003, at KU Med Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at Mt. Calvary M.B.C. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at the church. Cremation.

He was born July 11, 1943.

Survivors include three daughters, Angela Strass, Grandview, Mo., Jennifer Lytle, Kansas City, Mo., and Frances Renne-Damien, KCK; his father, William Davis, KCK; his mother, Tessie Mae Davis, KCK; five brothers, Andrew Davis, William Davis Jr., Donald Davis, all of KCK, and Robert Davis and George Davis, both of Milwaukee; four sisters, Gloria Hernandez, Patricia Baker, Loretta Davis and Cynthia Hernandez, all of KCK; and six grandchildren.

Walter J. Hartford

Walter J. Hartford, 74, of Lawrence, Kan., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the home. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, Lawrence. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery. A "Celebration of Life" in honor of Walt will be 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Williams Town Assembly Building Fund or Douglas County Hospice. Family and friends may leave messages of condolences at www.forevernetwork.com.

Walt was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Brown County, S. D. His parents, five brothers and a grandson preceded him in death.

Walt is survived by his wife, Priscilla of the home; two sons, Randall J. Hartford and Mark H. Hartford, both of Lawrence; three daughters, Doris M. Fullington of Orlando, Fla, Carolyn Harrell, Meriden, Kan., Debra Ann Hurwitz, Montverde, Fla; one brother, Billy Raymond Hartford, Grove, Okla; four sisters, Esther Turner, Merced, Calif., Betty Reid, KCK, Anna Davidson of Lawrence and Mamie Jane Stobaugh, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 13 Grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Virginia E. Keller

Virginia E. Keller, 78, Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the Presbyterian Manor. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Meyers Family Funeral Home. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by four children, Patricia Garrison and Joseph McDonald, both of KCK, James McDonald, Basehor, Kan., Karen Peterman, Tonganoxie, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Peter Mahomet

Peter Mahomet, 85, Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 5, 2003, at his home. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.

Mr. Mahomet was born Feb. 8, 1918, in KCK.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Mahomet, of the home; three sons, Michael V. Mahomet, Hatfield, Penn., Richard P. Mahomet, Roeland park, Kan., and John A. Mahomet, Hudson, N.H.; one brother, Alexander Mahomet, Clayton, Ga.; one sister, Anna Ketter, Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Saunders

Robert E. Saunders, 72, Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at KU Med Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the Porter Funeral Home. Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert was born Oct. 26, 1930, in KCK.

He is survived by his wife, AnnaMae Saunders, of the home; one son, William E. Saunders, KCK; two daughters, Debra Martin and Anna Bukovaz, both of Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Beulah McGoldrick, Bonner Springs; and six grandchildren.

Arthur L. Crable

Graveside services for Arthur L. Crable, 79, Kansas City, Kan., were held at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

The Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crable died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Providence Medical Center. He was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Osage City, Kan., and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1940. He had been maintenance electrician for Trailmobile for 43 years, retiring in 1983. He was a Methodist, a member of the VFW and Local 1964 Steelworkers Union and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Timberwolves.

His wife, Alice Crable, died in 1988, and one granddaughter, Lisa Edwards, died in 1980.

Surviving are four sons, Timothy Crable and Steven W. Crable, both of KCK, James Crable, Abilene, Kan., and Randall Crable, Santa Fe, Texas; two daughters, Mary Stiles, Climax Springs, Mo., and Teresa Edwards, Basehor, Kan.; his companion and caregiver, Ethlyn "Kitty" Warren, KCK; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ethel R. Guenther

Graveside services for Ethel Rose Guenther, 92, Kansas City, Kan., were held today at 1 p.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The Maple Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Guenther died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the home. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a quality checker and packer for Procter and Gamble for nearly 50 years, retiring in 1974.

Raymond Haller Jr.

Services for Raymond Haller Jr., 77, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Royal Memorial Fund or to the donor's choice.

Mr. Haller died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Providence Medical Center. he was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Warrensburg, Mo., and had been a resident of KCK, most of his life. He was an equipment operator for more than 30 years for the USD 500 School District, retiring in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II and attended the Argentine Mennonite Church.

His first wife, Annie O'Neal Haller, died in 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. Haller, of the home; three daughters, Cindy Stanley, Basehor, Kan., Nancy Howell and Barbara Cygan, both of KCK; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alvin W. Heitmann

Services for Alvin W. Heitmann, 93, Overland Park, Kan., were held today at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Broadview and Reynolds, Kansas City Kan.

Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, KCK. The family suggests memorials to the church. The Butler-Fulton-Funeral Home, 22 S. 18th St., KCK, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Heitmann died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. he was born May 10, 1908, in Republic County, Kan. He was a carpentry foreman, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the church.

Three brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Surviving are four nephews.

Martha Newton

Graveside services for Martha Newton, 72, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., formerly of Kansas City, Mo., were held Monday at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.

Mrs. Newton died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Bellflower, Calif. She was born in K. C., Mo., and had lived in this area before moving to Santa Fe Springs many years ago. She was active in many civic groups in Santa Fe Springs and served as the president of the Santa Fe Springs Women's Club.

Surviving are her husband, Henry Clyde Newton, of the home; one son, Mark Newton, Corona, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Martinez, KCK, and Jennie Mason, Gladstone, Mo.; five brothers, John Lopez, Tino Lopez, Bobby Lopez, Paul Lopez, all of K. C., Mo., and Jessie Lopez, Roeland Park, Kan.; one sister, Henrietta Carrillo, Gladstone; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Peterson

A Funeral Mass for Marjorie Peterson, 75, Basehor, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor.

Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, Kan., where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Catholic Charities Hospice; Holy Angels Catholic Church Building Fund; or to Villa St. Francis, c/o the funeral home.

Mrs. Peterson died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kan. She was born March 15, 1926, in Leavenworth County, Kan. She was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church and a lifelong Basehor area resident.

Her husband, Harvey Peterson Jr., died in 1991; and one son, Larry Peterson, died in 1958.

Surviving are two sons, Earnest Peterson, Olathe, and Garry Peterson, Loveland, Colo.; two daughters, Irene Hudgins, Spring Hill, Kan., and Joyce Bowlin, Tonganoxie, Kan.; one sister, Earlene Ebert, Kansas City, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Wanda L. Summers

Memorial services for Wanda Lee "Liddell" Summers, 71, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, KCK.

The family suggests memorials to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 18th and Washington Blvd., KCK 66102. The Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Summers died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the Providence Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1929, in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. She was a lifelong "Cradle" Episcopalian, and a member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She had been a former member of the choir; Sunday school teacher; Cub Scout Den Mother; and youth leader. She was a member of the Daughters of the King; member of the Altar Guild; and the Episcopal Church Women.

Surviving are her husband, Robert M. "Bob" Summers, of the home; one daughter, Sue Jochens, Shawnee, Kan.; two sons, David Joseph Summers and Ronald Dale Summers, both of Lenexa, Kan.; two sisters, June Lydon, Milton, Mass., and Shirley Kieler, Parker, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Frank G. Wells

Services for Frank G. Wells, 90, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wells died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the Providence Medical Center. He was born March 22, 1911, in KCK, and was a lifelong resident. He had been a machinist for Cook Paint and Varnish Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Community in Christ, Chelsea Congregation and the Indian Springs Walkers Club.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Louise Wells, of the home; one sister, Marnie Snell, Merriam, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Victoria A. Butler

Victoria A. Butler, 78, Kansas City, Kan., departed from this life on Sept. 21, 2002, at Overland Park Regional. Her parents, her husband, Cary Butler Sr., and one son, Riley, preceded her in death.

She was baptized by the Rev. J.W. Hurst at the St. Stephen Baptist Church at an early age.

Victoria was educated in the Kansas City, Mo., School system and graduated from R. J. Coles in 1942. She later attended Kansas City Kansas Community College. She was employed at the Holiday Inn and Sprint until her retirement in 1990.

Her memory will be cherished by her two sons, Richard and Cary (Norma) Jr. Butler; two sisters, Margaret Brown and Ernestine (Henry) Calhoun; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Thatcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. at Thatchers. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery.

She was born April 24, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the second child of Richard and Irene Bennett.
