Services were held April 12 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb 7 Rodrick Chapel with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. He is survived by his father Jerry Root, mother Vickie Root, 1 sister, maternal grandparents, 3 nephews.

Dixon, Margaret Louise, age 88, homemaker, died April 10, 2007. Services were held April 13 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Ks with interment at the Moline Cemetery. She is survived by 2 sons, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.

Ferguson, A. Lois, age 90, resident of Fredonia, Ks, formerly of Quincy died April 7, 2007. She was a homemaker. Graveside services were held April 12 at the Jackson Cemetery west of new Albany, Ks under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home of Fredonia, Ks. She is survived by 2 sons, 1 daughter, 1 brother, 3 sisters, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Wheeler, Joan Ann, age 68, nurses aide and cook, died April 10, 2007. Services were held April 14 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel with graveside services at the Barnesville Cemetery east of Fulton, Ks, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel of Chanute, Ks. She is survived by 3 sons, 4 daughters, 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 7 brothers, 1 sister.

Blackledge, Maxine Nancy, age 94, died Dec. 5, 2007 at her home. She and her husband owned and operated Blackledge Sales Company for many years. Services were held Dec. 10 in the First Christian Church with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Ks. She is survived by 1 daughter, 1 brother, 1 grandson, 2 great-granddaughters, 1 sister-in-law.

Bassford, Helen Agness, age 87, homemaker, died Dec. 4, 2007 in Independence, Ks. Services were held Dec. 7 at the First Baptist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel. She is survived by 3 sons, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.

Hammond, Earl “Wayne”, age 78, died Dec. 2 in Parsons, Ks. He was a heavy construction worker. Services were held Dec. 7 at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale. A family burial was held in Fairview Cemetery. He is survived by J.P. Blatchford and family of Camdenton, Ms and the Morris Woldum children of Cherryvale.

Whitcher, Boyd Junior, age 83, died Dec. 7, 2007 in Independence, Ks. He worked for Newton’s Hardware. Services were held Dec. 11 at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale with burial at Fairview Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Maxine, 5 sons, 3 daughters, 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

McKellip, Barbara “Bobbie”, age 71, died Nov. 28, 2007 in Aurora, Co. Services were held Dec. 10 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Penwell-Gabel’s Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. She is survived by 2 sons, 2 sisters, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Moore, Wauneta, age 80, died Dec. 9, 2007. Services are pending under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville, Ks.

Forsythe, Petrena Ellouise, age 86, retired teacher, died Dec. 8, 2007 in Neodesha, Ks. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the First United Methodist Church with burial in the Fredonia City Cemetery under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home. She is survived by 4 sons, 1 brother, 1 sister, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters.

Broadaway, Elsie M., age 83, former Independence resident, died Dec. 2, 2007 at her home in Wichita, Ks. Her husband had pastored churches in Wichita, Cherryvale and Parsons, Ks as well as Bartlesville, Ok. Services were held Dec. 5 at the Bible Holiness Church of Independence with interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel. She is survived by 2 sons, 2 daughters, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, 2 sisters.

Freidline, Etha Aleen, age 88, homemaker, died Jan. 10, 2008 in Bartlesville, Ok. Services were held Jan. 15 in the First Baptist Church with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Ks. She is survived by 1 son, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter.

Freisberg, Daren “Nat” Nathaniel, age 38 of Denver, Co, formerly of Caney, died Jan. 7, 2008 at his home. He was employed at Golden Orchid Assisted Living as maintenance director. Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in El Cado Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence, Ks. He is survived by his mother Jackie Freisberg, 3 brothers, 4 sisters.

Ellis, Theresa Lynn “Tee”, age 41, died Jan. 4, 2008. She had been employed at Four County Mental Health where she worked with grade school students. Services were held Jan. 10 at the Amazing Grace Chapel with private burial to be held at a later date under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home. She is survived by 1 daughter, parents Henry and Nola Tickle, 2 brothers, maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Mary and John Douglas and her paternal step-grandmother Liz Tickle.

Dunn, Mildred, age 52, died Jan. 4, 2008 in Wichita, Ks. She worked as a nurses aide and medication aide at Glenwood Estates and the Manor Nursing Home until becoming disabled. She is survived by 1 daughter, 5 brothers, 4 sisters, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 brother, 1 sister, 1 half-sister, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Nissen, Alma L., age 88, previously of Coffeyville, Ks, died Jan. 10, 2008. She had worked at several restaurants in Coffeyville including 17 years at Caesar’s Club. Graveside services were held Jan. 14 at Penwell-Gabel’s Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home of Coffeyville, Ks. She is survived by 1 son, 1 brother, 2 sisters, several nieces and nephews and 1 great-niece.

Stephenson, Darlene J., age 79, retired employee of Sedan City Hospital, died Jan. 7, 2008. Services were held Jan. 10 at the First United Methodist Church with interment at Belknap Cemetery, located northwest of Sedan under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan.

Dickson, Judy Lee Baker, age 64, died Jan. 7, 2008. She was managing editor of The Abilene Reflector Chronicle. A celebration of life was held Jan. 27 at the Abilene Masonic Temple under the direction of Porter Funeral Home and Crematory in Kansas City, Ks. She is survived by her husband Jerry, her mother Sue Baker, 1 daughter, 2 sons, 2 grandchildren, other relatives.

Harmon, Ann Marie, age 39, died Jan. 30, 2008 in Coffeyville, Ks. She worked as a receptionist at local hotels. Services were held Feb. 4 at the Caney United Methodist Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home in Coffeyville. She is survived by her parents Tom Harmon and Sue Farris, 1 son, companion Ed Williams, 3 brothers, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services were held Feb. 1 at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Fredonia City Cemetery. She is survived by 2 sons, 1 daughter, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Simmons, Grace Beulah, age 97, homemaker, died Jan. 31, 2008 at her home. Services were held Feb. 4 at the Southern Baptist Church with burial in the Fredonia City Cemetery under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home. She is survived by 1 son, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fankhauser, George, age 97, died Jan. 29, 2008 in Coffeyville, Ks. He was retired from State Farm Insurance. Services were held Feb. 2 at Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. He is survived by 2 sons, 3 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren.
