LULA F. GARDNER

FOWLER -- Lula Florence Gardner, 101, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at the Parkview Nursing Home in Fowler.

She was born Aug. 1, 1898, to Frances Albert and Emma Bernetta (Buck) Nichols in Smith County.

She married Elmer Ellsworth Gardner Dec. 22, 1913, in Belleville. He died Oct. 2, 1956.

She was a homemaker and a resident of the Ensign and Fowler communities since 1924.

She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and was a bible class teacher at the Fowler Christian Church in Fowler.

Survivors include three daughters, Gevene Sutton and husband, Caleb, Ensign, Ardith Hanson and husband, Cliff, Penalosa, and Eunice Padgett and husband, Kenneth, Fowler; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll Wilfred Gardner and Orel Wilburt Gardner; one daughter, Grace Berniece Wegley; and three grandsons.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Fowler Christian Church in Fowler with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial will follow at the Cave Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

The family suggests memorials to the Fowler Christian Church, the Wesleyan Native American Indian Ministry or the donor's choice, in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

RUTH ANNA PRINE

HUGOTON -- Ruth Anna Prine, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at the Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born July 1, 1921, to Paul J. and Hazel Adaline (Compton) Mann in Tyrone, Okla.

She married Louis Lee Prine Nov. 5, 1941, in Liberal. He died May 15, 1979.

She was a housewife. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Trinity Baptist Church. Her hobbies included bowling.

Survivors include one son Robert Lee Prine, Liberal; two daughters, Patricia Marie Gardner, Hugoton, and Mary Ann Ratzlaff, Hutchinson; one brother, Charles Lee Mann, Tyrone; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with the Revs. Bill Sigmon and Larry Bradford presiding. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Services are under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

VIRGINIA BUCKNER

ULYSSES -- Virginia Buckner, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Mercy Health Center in Manhattan.

She was born May 24, 1925, to Harry T. and Daisy J. (Campton) Walden in Seward County.

She married Leonard Clifford "Cliff" Buckner June 12, 1943, in Washington State. He died March 20, 1978.

She was a longtime resident of Ulysses before moving to Manhattan in 1995 to be near her daughter.

She was a homemaker and had worked as an insurance claims assistant for Dr. Dodson's Medical Office in Ulysses. Her hobbies included reading and bird watching. She was an amateur anthropologist. She donated an extensive collection of Indian artifacts to the Grant County Museum.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Conderman, Manhattan; one brother, Don Walden, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; two grandchildren, J. David Conderman and Sarah E. Conderman, two step grandchildren, Teyre Demonbrun and Geramy Demonbrun, one great-grandson, Cole Conderman, one step great-granddaughter,

Katie Demonbrun; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sara Hadsell, Edith Eyman and Helen Stout.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses with Dr. Max Clayton presiding.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Meadowlark Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

JEFFREY ELDON MCCUE

HOUSTON (Northshore) -- Jeffrey Eldon McCue, 34, a former Hugoton resident, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, of a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 24, 1965, to Carl Donald Gregg and Donna Jean (Kirkpatrick) Gregg in Hugoton.

He married Teresa Anguiano. She survives.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he was the Young Men's Youth Leader.

Survivors include two sons, Brett Nolan McCue and Tyler Richard McCue, of Houston; one daughter, Elena Marie McCue, Houston; his adoptive father and stepmother, Richard and Ellen L. McCue, both of Kansas and June Gregg of California; three brothers, Donald L. McCue, Sean R. McCue and Ian A. McCue; two sisters, Jeanette K. Simms and Maura K. McCue; his grandparents, Donald and Jean Kirkpatrick, Marie Gregg, Blanche McCue and Grandma Roberts; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Revs. Robert P. Matthews and Dennis D. Cox presiding.

Burial followed at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery under the direction of the Woodforest Funeral Home in Houston.

The family suggests memorials to the Jeff McCue Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 722, Galena Park, TX 77547.

EUGENE T. MAHIEU

WICHITA -- Eugene "Gene" T. Mahieu, 72, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Dec. 5, 1927, to Noah and Agnes Irene (Boyd) Mahieu in rural Fowler.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fowler.

Survivors include one son, Danny and his wife, Kathy, Fowler; three daughters, Brenda J. Reichmann and her husband, Steen, Wichita, Janet Enlow and her husband, Chris, Dodge City, and Margie Delzeit and her husband, Brian, Edmond Okla.; three sisters, Myrtle Haislip, Wallace, Lorene Hatfield, Fowler, and Alene Keen, McPherson; special friend, Marva Ellis, Ashland; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Fidler-Orme Mortuary Chapel in Meade, with the Revs. Derald Musgrove and Roy Springer presiding. Burial will follow at the Fowler Cemetery in Fowler.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Meade Home Health Care Center, Meade District Hospital or the Leukemia Society of America in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

ELDON F. WURDEMAN

MEADE -- Eldon F. Wurdeman, 72, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.

He was born Dec. 28, 1927, to Herman and Anna (Kuhlman) Wurdeman in Meade County.

He married Bertha B. Lampe Sept. 21, 1950, in Dodge City. She died Jan. 1, 1981.

He married Lola D. Nash June 19, 1982, in Meade. She died Feb. 19, 1999.

He graduated from Meade High School in 1946, and then graduated from Dodge City Community College.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He retired in 1983 from Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline, (later known as NRA) after 30 years of service. He was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion, both of Meade.

Survivors include three sons, Tom, Overbrook, Gary, Oklahoma City, Okla., and David, Derby; one daughter, Diane Leis, Fowler; one sister, Barbara Feldman, Meade; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today, at St. John Lutheran Church in Meade, with Rev. Lynn Spencer presiding. Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in care of the Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade KS 67864.

VESPER YOUNG

PRINCETON, Mo. -- Vesper "Neoma" Young, 76, a former Stevens County resident, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home in Princeton.

She was born June 15, 1923, to Charles Benjamin and Mary Susan (Hardin) Woodring in Stevens County.

She married Clifford Bryan in January 1947. He died in December 1969.

She married Charles "Mac" Young in November of 1971. He died in October of 1999.

She graduated from high school in Darlington, Mo. She lived most of her married life on a farm east of Spickard, Mo.

She lived in the Branson, Mo. and Forsyth, Mo. areas for 19 years before moving to Princeton, where she had lived for the past three years.

She was a baker for several restaurants in Branson and Forsyth and was known as "granny" by restaurant patrons.

Survivors include two sons, Dearn Bryan, Princeton, and Terry Bryan, Woodward, Okla.; two daughters, Patsy Holt, Princeton, and Barbara Norton, Woodward; three sisters, Hallie Nix, Liberal, Georgia Zinn, Idaho Springs, Colo., and Dee Burton, Oklahoma City; one brother, Earl Woodring, Kellispel, Mont.; 10 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal.

Kitch Funeral Home in Liberal is in charge of local arrangements.

ALICE B. NELSON

FOWLER -- Alice B. Nelson, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Fowler Nursing Home in Fowler.

She was born Feb. 28, 1909, to Isaac and Edith (Estes) Webb in Finney County.

She married Roy C. Nelson Sept. 17, 1928, in Dodge City. He died May 21, 1974.

She attended the Hodgeman County Rural School and graduated from the Dodge City High School in 1927.

She was a longtime Dodge City resident before moving to Fowler in 1992.

She was a homemaker and had been employed as a cook at various youth camps and the Dodge City Community College. She was a retired employee of the Boot Hill Hardesty House.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, WWII Mothers, Moose Lodge and Sunflower Extension Unit, all of Dodge City.

Survivors include two daughters, Natalie Unzicker and husband, Lloyd, Fowler, and Irene Bristow and husband, Everett, Salt Lake City; one daughter-in-law, Janice Nelson, Leadville, Colo.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Merlin C. Nelson; one daughter, Joan Dugger; one brother, Verle Webb; and three grandsons.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Fowler, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until noon and from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

The family suggests memorials to the Fowler Nursing Home Physical Therapy Department, in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.
