CLIFFORD M. WRIGHT

MEADE -- Clifford M. Wright, 87, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade.

He was born Feb. 14, 1912 to Adelbert and Helen Mae Catherwood Wright.

He married Kathryn Maxine Pattin in Buffalo, Okla. She survives.

He graduate from Jetmore High School in 1929. He was a retired registered engineer having worked for Kansas State Highway Department from 1955 until 1975 and retired in 1985 as an agent with State Farm Insurance. Co.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Meade.

Survivors include two daughters, Jolene Pangan, Cheyenne, Wyo., Maurine Herman, Overland Park, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell, and a brother, Cecil.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, with the Rev. Chuck Mattix presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the mortuary.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family suggests memorials to St. Labre Indian School or the Beam Senior Center in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Box F, 212 South Fowler St., Meade.

JUANITA HARPER CIARLINO

ST. LOUIS, Mich. -- Juanita Harper Ciarlino, 77, former Liberal resident, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 at Schnepp Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 16, 1922, to Robert and Laura (Clement) Harper, in Guymon, Okla.

She married Frank Ciarlino. He died Oct. 20, 1993.

She was employed for several years with Ideal Grocery in Liberal, and Allen Jewelry Store in Detroit, Mich. She worked for many years for Lake Orion Public

Schools as a bus driver. While she lived in Michigan, she volunteered for the Ladies Auxiliary at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Knowlton and husband John, Alma, Mich., three grandchildren, John Knowlton Jr., Battle Creek, Mich., Steven and Jessica Knowlton, Ypsilanti, Mich., and Samantha and John Bodman, Alma; one sister, Irene Metcalf, Liberal; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Harper, Liberal and Marguerite Ciarlino, Chesterfield, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Ciarlino; two brothers, James and Melvin Harper; and two sisters, Nora Gloden and Bertha Raglin.

Memorial services will be held noon Saturday at the Alma United Methodist Church, Alma, Mich., with Rev. Phil Friedrick presiding.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gratiot Area Hospice or Meals on Wheels through the Commission of the Aging.

PAUL A. WOLF

HUGOTON -- Paul A. Wolf, 79, Hugoton, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born Jan. 8, 1921, to Frank Albert and Lillie (Arnold) Wolf at Little River.

He attended high school in Lyons and held a bachelor of science degree in business.

He was a captain in the Army and served during World War II.

He married Marion Lorraine Greenlee July 22, 1951, in Scott City. She survives.

He had lived in Lawrence and rural Rice County before he moved to Hugoton in 1952.

He was a lawyer for 48 years, first with Brollier, Wolf and Schroeder, then with Brollier, Wolf and Smith.

He was a member of United Methodist Church and Southwest Kansas Bar Association.

He was a past county attorney and past state representative. He was a member of the Legislative Council and a caucus leader.

He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a Lions representative, director of Southwest Savings and Loan and had served on the Stevens County Library and Stevens County Hospital boards.

Other survivors include two sons, Lt. Col. Franklin Wolf, Stafford, Va., and Douglas P. Wolf, Hobbs, N.M.; one daughter, Carol Moore, Los Alamos, N.M.; one sister, Ruth Burkey, Springfield, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Amy, Emily and Michael Wolf.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Hugoton with the Rev. Nel Holmes presiding. Military graveside services will be held at the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or Stevens County Home Health Care, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

ALMA, Mich. -- Juanita (Harper) Ciarlino, 77, Alma, Mich., a former Liberal resident, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Schnepp Health Care Center.

JUNIOR GLOVER

SLATON, Texas -- Junior Glover, 72, Slaton, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Lubbock, Texas.

He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Byers. He was reared in Turkey, Texas.

He worked for many oil companies and retired as a tool pusher in 1992. He moved from Clarendon, Texas, to Slaton in 1988.

He married Helen Durr Oct. 31, 1979, in Canadian, Texas. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Rick Glover, San Diego, Calif., and Rob Glover, Liberal; two step-sons, the Rev. Tom Moore, Canadian, and the Rev. Jerry Moore, Gruver, Texas; one sister, Vinita Kates, Slaton; one brother, Marshall Glover, Turkey; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Glover, in 1988.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Canadian, with the Rev. Jerry Moore, minister of First United Methodist Church, Gruver, and the Rev. Tom Moore,

minister of First United Methodist Church, Groom, Texas, officiating.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

RALPH L. CALVERT

WAKEENEY -- Ralph L. Calvert, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital, Wakeeney.

He was born June 19, 1915, to Lewellan Moses and Katherine (Kerns) Calvert in his grandfather's sod house in Grey, Okla.

He graduated from Liberal High School.

He married Alma L. Wilson May 18, 1937 in Los Angeles, Calif. She preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2000.

He moved to Wakeeney from Arkansas in 1953.

He was owner and operator of the Bryant Motel, Wakeeney. He retired in the summer of 1974.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Mid-week Campers and Lions Club, all of Wakeeney, and was a past member of Wakeeney Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include a daughter, Melinda Nemechek, Conifer, Colo.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Bess Smith Woods and Esther Smith.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Wakeeney City Cemetery, with the Rev. Marilyn Gamm officiating.

Burial will be at Wakeeney City Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th St., Wakeeney.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

ALFRED E. "AL" FLORES

Alfred E. "Al" Flores, 60, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Liberal.

Funeral services are pending with Miller Mortuary, Liberal.

BERNHARD C. "BEN" DOERKSON

MEADE -- Bernhard C. "Ben" Doerkson, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000 at the Meade District Hospital.

He was born Jan. 29, 1925 to Bernhard H. and Maria F. (Classen) Doerkson in Meade.

He married Katharina B. Harder in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He was a lifetime resident of Meade County and was a retired Bridge & Building foreman for the Rock Island Railroad, later known as the Saint Louis Railroad.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #982 of Hutchinson, and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.

Other survivors include a son, Rick Doerksen, Liberal; two daughters, Regina Foster and Rita Goering, both of Meade; three brothers, Bill C. Doerksen, Susanville, Calif., Pete Doerksen, Reedley, Calif, and Henry Doerksen, Hutchinson; two sisters, Helen C. Ediger, Meade, and Tena Ediger, Hutchinson; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Wayne Doerksen, and a sister, Adena Nachtigall.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Saint John's Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn Spencer presiding.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade.

The family suggests memorials to the Meade County EMS or the Beam Senior Center.
