ETHEL M. DANA

Ethel M. Dana, 88, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.

She was born Oct. 21, 1911, to Charles Edwin Lindsay and Iva (Missimer) Lindsay in Bunker Hill.

She married Theodore E. Dana May 1, 1936, in Lucas. He died Aug. 31, 1977.

She lived much of her early life in the Bunker Hill community. She taught rural school for a few years before her marriage.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Seal Beach, Calif., for a few years before she moving back to Kansas in the 1990s.

She was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Theodore Dana, Sarcoxie, Mo., James Dana, Liberal, Frank Dana, Tucson, Ariz., and Philip Dana, Enterprise, Ala.; one brother, Dale Lindsay, Davis, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant daughter and one infant son; two brothers, Frank and Lawrence Lindsay; and two sisters, Edith Carter and Edna Burns.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Earl Haggard presiding. Burial will be at the Bunker Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell, and from 9:30 to service time Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, in care of Pohlman's Mortuary, 610 N. Maple St., Russell, Ks 67665.

HARRY LITTLE

WALNUT -- Harry Little, 94, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home in rural Walnut.

He was born Feb. 16, 1905, to Samuel and Elizabeth (Schulz) Little in Greenbush.

He married Ellen Cavanaugh Feb. 12, 1929, in St. Paul. She died Nov. 19, 1993.

He grew up and attended school in the rural Walnut area. He lived and farmed in rural Walnut.

He owned and operated the Little Feed and Implement Co. in Walnut from 1925 to 1974.

He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut, and an honorary member of the Council No. 3216, Knights of Columbus.

He was also an honorary member of the Ruritan Club in Walnut. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include one son, Joe Little, Walnut; four daughters, Loyola Puckett, Pittsburg, Dorothy VanLeeuwen, Walnut, Mary Ita Brown, Erie, and Betty Call, Liberal; and 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Sue Little, May 11, 1943; two grandchildren, Julie and Christopher Little; one brother, Raymond Little; and two sons-in-law, Ralph Puckett and J.P. Brown.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Jan. 27, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut, with the Rev. John Zich presiding. Rosary was recited Jan. 26. Burial was at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Walnut.

The family suggests memorials to the St. Patrick's Church Property Fund or Hospice, Inc., in care of Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 403 Main St., St. Paul, KS 66711.

MARGUERITE R. HUBBARD

HUGOTON -- Marguerite Ruth Hubbard, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born Aug. 5, 1906, to Jesse Edward and Anna Ruth (Gauss) Wagoner in Webster County, Neb.

She married W. Wendell Hubbard Aug. 30, 1929, in Garden City. He died Aug. 23, 1996.

She was a graduate of the Hastings, Neb., high school. She fulfilled a teaching contract at Monument, then graduated from McPherson College in 1931 and returned to Hugoton.

She had lived in Hugoton since 1931.

She was a school teacher, homemaker and co-owner and society editor of the Hugoton Hermes.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was pianist and Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years.

She was also a member of Garden Club, Federated Womens Club, American Association of University Women, and local, state and national newspaper organizations.

Her hobbies led her to be a world traveler, history buff and lifelong student and writer.

Survivors include one son, William Dennis Hubbard and wife, Eleanor, Boulder, Colo.; one daughter, LaFaughn Hancock and husband, Lone, Ellensburg, Wash.; one brother, Charles Wagoner, Redding, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Alice Ramsey, Bremerton, Wash., and Eloise Taylor, Albion, Neb.; and five grandchildren, Larry Hancock, Lyle Hancock, Lorraine Hancock, Kirsten Hubbard and Natasha Hubbard.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Kevin Yoakum presiding. Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Dr. Sue Rodgman Missionary Fund or to Hubbard Memorials, in care of the First Christian Church, 600 Van Buren, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH A. GIBBS

LIBERAL -- Kenneth Arthur "Bud" Gibbs, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 7, 1919, to Fred T. and Ruth N. (Gentholtz) Gibbs in Kincaid.

He married Rosabelle (Rosy) B. Blackman Oct. 12, 1947, in Kincaid. She survives.

He began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone in October 1940. He joined the U.S. Army in February 1942, where he served during World War II. At the time of his honorable discharge in October 1945, he was a Technical Sargeant with the Signal Co. 25th infantry division. He returned to work with Southwestern Bell as a construction foreman, where he remained until his retirement in 1980.

The Gibbs family lived in many communities in Kansas because of his job. They moved to Liberal in 1959.

He was a member of the VFW Lodge, Kincaid; the Masonic Lodge, Kincaid; Mirza Shrine, Pittsburg; Scottish Rite Mason, Fort Scott; Liberal Pancakers Camping Club, First United Methodist Church of Liberal, and Golden Band Sunday School. He enjoyed being involved in many organizations and was a former Boy Scout Leader, church usher, as well as being involved in the camping club.

Other survivors include two sons, K. Gary Gibbs, Wichita, and Anthony Gibbs, Paducah, Ky.; one sister, Jean McClain, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Eric Gibbs, Aaron Gibbs and wife, Lee Ann, Haley Gibbs, and Lindy Gibbs; one great-grandson, Austin; two daughters-in-law, Glenna Gibbs and Theresa Gibbs; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one half-sister, Marjorie Rogler.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal, with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Southwest Home Care Hospice or Boys Scout Troop #73 of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal. Contributions may be sent in care of Kitch Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, KS, 67901.

JUANA MARIA BACA

ULYSSES -- Juana Maria Baca, was stillborn, Feb. 1, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.

She was the daughter of Manuel and Juana Maria (Hernandez) Baca. They survive.

Survivors include one brother, Miguel Baca, Ulysses; seven sisters, Maria Elen Baca, Elizabeth Baca, Rosa Baca, Maryra Baca, Norma Baca, Elsa Baca, and Jaryxa Janet Baca, all of Ulysses;

grandmother, Maria Isabel Ramariez; grandfather, Guadalupe Hernandez; and grandmother, Maria Garcia.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ulysses Cemetery with Rev. John Kowal presiding.

Friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses, is in charge of arrangements.

MILDRED M. JOHNS

Johnson CITY -- Mildred Maurine "Milly" Johns, 77, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka.

She was born Dec. 4, 1922, to Harold D. and Hazel (Yates) House in Hutchinson.

She married Julius Jesse Johns Jan. 24, 1942, in Morton County. He died July 19, 1999.

She attended Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia and taught elementary grade school in the Penalosa area.

She was a housewife and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. She was involved in the Republican Party as a Stanton County Kansas Federation Republican Women officer, the Stanton County Republican Party Chairwoman and Chairman and Precinct Committee Woman for Stanton Township.

She served as Stanton County Campaign Chairman for many successful local, state and national republican politicians including Gov. Bill Graves, Sen. Pat Roberts and Congressman Jerry Moran.

She had diabetes and had been a test patient for the initial use of Bio-synthetic Human Insulin.

Survivors include one son, Douglas D. Johns, Johnson City; two sisters, Georgia Smith and Helen Marie Varney, both of Hutchinson; six grandchildren, Jason R. Johns, Angers, France, Logan D.K. Johns, Austin, Texas, Julie M. Johns, Phoenix, Ariz., Amanda D. and Vera B. Johns, both of Johnson City, and Barbara D. Johns, Austin.

She was preceded in death by one son, Julius Lynn Johns; two sisters, Virginia Rapp and Gwen Cockrum.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson City.

The family suggests memorials to the following organizations: the American Diabetes Association Camp Discovery, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.

JUNE GREENWOOD

HUGOTON -- June (Hanner) Greenwood, 81, formerly of Hugoton, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at her home in Omaha, Neb.

She was born Oct. 16, 1918, to Ira and Linnie (Mills) Hanner in Liberal.

She had been a lifelong resident of Hugoton, except for the past seven months when she lived in Omaha.

She was a secretary for 35 years for Brollier, Wolf and Schroeder. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hugoton.

She married Lloyd M. Greenwood July 26, 1941, in Rolla, Mo. He died Nov. 8, 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Greenwood, Tyler, Texas, and Eric Greenwood, Omaha; one sister, Rilla Franklin, Hugoton; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lolene Hanner and Rena Meuller.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Nel Holmes officiating. Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to United Methodist Church in Hugoton. Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton, is in charge of the services.
