JACK KEITH SLEMP
MOSCOW -- Jack Keith Slemp, 71, lifelong resident of Moscow, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
He was born May 29, 1928, to Orval Lee and Leola Fay (Henderson) Slemp in Moscow.
He had married Jo Ann Tilford in 1955 in Clayton, N.M.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for the City of Moscow and had his own custom hay business.
Survivors include three sons, Keith Slemp Jr., Campo, Colo., Roy Slemp, Anchorage, Alaska, and Kevin Slemp, Moscow; three sisters, Judy Cantrell, Moscow, Nancy Olinger, Hugoton, and Marilyn Kapp, Yukon, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James, and one sister, Gwendolyn Burgess.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Moscow, with the Revs. Josue Mora and Larry Bradford presiding.
Burial will be at Moscow Cemetery. Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
DWIGHT GOODMAN
Johnson -- Wilbur Dwight Goodman, 75, Johnson, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
He was born May 18, 1925, to Elbert and Olive (Hills) Goodman in Beeler.
He had been a resident of Johnson since 1963. He was the owner and operator of the Goodman Garage until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the Lucky 4 Square Dance Club, Happy Campers Motor Club, and Masonic Lodge No. 441 A.F. and A.M., Johnson.
He married Della Lea Chism Nov. 18, 1950, in Wellington. She died May 19, 1999.
Survivors include four sons, Eric Dwight Goodman, Gaston, S.C., Alan T. Goodman, Pratt, Barry D. Goodman, Johnson, and Colin S. Goodman, Sterling; two brothers, Dean Goodman, Benton, and Elgin Goodman, Nardin, Okla.; one sister, Neva Dodson, Arkansas City; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Johnson, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann presiding and cremation following services.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson.
Memorials are suggested to Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.
GLADYS O. LAYTON
ULYSSES -- Gladys O. Layton, 84, Ulysses, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born May 20, 1915, to John and Lema (Cassidy) Dill in Oklahoma Territory near Durant, Okla.
She married Ned K. Layton Sept. 17, 1939, in Sayre, Okla. He died Dec. 28, 1991.
She was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Grant County since 1952 and was a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church of Ulysses.
Survivors include one son, John Layton and wife, Alberta, Independence; two daughters, Ginger Anthony and husband, Loy, Ulysses, and Jeanie Allen, Garden City; two sisters, Ruth Wiley, Wheeler, Texas and Jeanie Parks, Roulette, Texas; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl Dill, Clarence Dill, Earl Dill and J.M. Dill; and two sisters, Icie Jennings and Annie Dill.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.

CALVIN L. TOOT
Calvin L. Toot, 75, Liberal, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born Oct. 19, 1924, to Joseph Lee and Elsie Ruth (Aves) Toot in St. John.
He was a graduate of Trousdale High School in Kansas. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate 1st class during World War II.
He had been a Liberal resident for 40 years.
In 1986, he retired as supervisor of service and shipping departments at Tradewind Industries Inc.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Lane Day Post No. 3166 of Liberal.
His hobbies included golf, and he was a fan of all televised sports, especially college basketball.
He married Betty L. Montgomery Aug. 2, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, David Toot and wife, Beth, London, England, and Colin Toot and wife, Cindy, Comfort, Texas; two daughters, Linda Morlan and husband, Bill, Overland Park, and Judy Connelly and husband, Michael, Amarillo; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Toot.
Graveside services with military honors by Fort Riley and Naval Reserve Center will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Belpre Cemetery
in Belpre.
Friends may sign a register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Kitch Funeral Home, Liberal. The casket will remain closed.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association, in care of Kitch Funeral Home.
DOROTHY J. COKELEY
Dorothy J. Cokeley, 72, Liberal, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
Funeral services will be announced by Miller Mortuary.
JESSIE LILLIAN GENTZLER
SPRINGFIELD, Colo. -- Jessie Lillian Gentzler, Springfield, Colo., died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Aug. 20, 1911, to Israel Harris and Nellie Mable Palmer in Floris, Okla.
She married Simon Peter Gentzler Feb. 12, 1931, in Hugoton. He preceded her in death.
They spent the first 10 years of their married life on the Gentzler family farm north of Liberal.
From Liberal, they moved to Manter and a few years later to Big Bow.
In the fall of 1946, they moved to Baca County, Colo., where they bought a farm north of Springfield. That was their home until 1963 when they retired and moved to Springfield.
She was a homemaker. After she moved to Springfield, she worked in the dietary department of the Southeast Colorado Hospital when it first opened.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Springfield, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Survivors include five children, Wilmot Leon Gentzler and wife, Shirley, Covina, Calif., Clorinda Mae Quick, Mesa, Ariz., Richard Franklin Gentzler and wife, Jody, Paonia, Colo., Gerald Dean Gentzler and wife, Kathy, Springfield, and Lester Carl Gentzler and wife, Carolyn, Springfield; two brothers, George Palmer, Perryton, Texas, and Leslie Palmer, Overland Park; one sister, Pearl Buxton, Liberal; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, one son and two sisters.
PAULINE HINSDALE
HUTCHINSON -- N. Pauline Hinsdale, 79, Hutchinson, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson.
She was born July 30, 1920, to Fred Dee and Clara (Donker) Adams in Beloit.
She married Virgil Paul Hinsdale May 8, 1940, in Coldwater. He died May 20, 1998.
She had moved to Hutchinson from Haven in 1982.
She was a homemaker. She belonged to the Walnut and Campbell Church of Christ in Hutchinson.
Survivors include two sons, Dariel "Tom" Hinsdale, Liberal, and Larry Hinsdale, Hutchinson; three daughters, Betty Ray, Dumas, Texas, Glenda Moore, Hutchinson, and Linda "Susie" Schmidt, Austin, Texas; three sisters, Mildred Soft, Inman, Maurine Soft, Wichita, Darline Virgo, Wamego; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold "Pete", Alvin and Eddie; and one sister, Esther Wedel.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson and Sons Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson, with Jimmie Keas and David Tappe presiding.
Burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home in Hutchinson.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Reno County or the Church of Christ, both in care of the funeral home.
