RUTH STANLEY TILLETT
ULYSSES -- Ruth Stanley Tillett, 98, Wichita, a former Ulysses resident, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Terrace Gardens in Wichita.
She was born April 7, 1902, to Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Woodward in Horse Cave, Ky.
She married Chet Tillett in December of 1922 in Boise City, Okla. They later moved from Rolla to Ulysses. He died Jan. 24, 1986.
She taught at the Pioneer School in rural Ulysses for several years. She was the county treasurer from1945 to 1967 in Ulysses. Her hobbies included playing pinochle with the pinochle club.
She was a member of Church of Christ in Ulysses.
Survivors include one son, Cliff Tillett and wife, Connie, Augusta; one daughter, Billye MacKinnon and husband, John, Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Jack Woodward, Ponca City, Okla.; one sister, Winnie Macklin, Wichita; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul and Roger Woodward; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Edyth Woodward.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Ulysses.
Burial will be at the Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, or from 10:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the Church of Christ, Ulysses.
A memorial has been established for the Church of Christ, Ulysses, in care of Grant County Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
VIOLET APSLEY
Violet Apsley, 85, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at her home in Liberal.
She was born April 1, 1915, in Seward County to Will and Birdie (Franklin) Pennington in Seward County. She had been a longtime resident of Liberal.
She attended school in Hayne and graduated from Liberal High School and Panhandle A & M College, Goodwell, Okla.
During World War II, she helped with the war effort by working in an airport tower. She and her husband, Elmer, established Elmer's Appliance and Electric Service in 1966.
She was a charter member of the Pershing Avenue Christian Church, now known as the Central Christian Church, Liberal, and was a longtime member of the Liberal Arts Association.
She married Elmer Apsley March 9, 1946, in Wichita. He died March 15, 1984.
Survivors include one son, Keith Apsley, Liberal; one daughter, Anita McVey and husband, Ray, Santa Maria, Calif.; and one brother, Orvin Pennington, Liberal.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Orville Pennington.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Central Christian Church, with the Revs. David Woods and Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 8-11 a.m. Tuesday at Kitch Funeral Home in Liberal.

ERNA C. BARTELS BAUER
Erna C. Bartels Bauer, 96, died Saturday, April 29, 2000 at Wheat Ridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Nov. 29, 1903 to Edward and Anna (Allewel) Bartels in Elmwood, Mo.
She had been a resident of Liberal for the past forty years.
She married Otto Bauer May 25, 1924, at her parents' home north of Guymon, Okla. He died April 20, 1996.
She was a homemaker. She and her husband were land owners and active in farming near Guymon.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Liberal.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Bauer and wife, Jeannie, Leroy Bauer and wife, Irene, and Kenneth Bauer and wife, Jean, all of Guymon; twin daughters, Clarice Hinds and husband, Leo, Amarillo, Texas; and Clara Mae Sutton, Aurora, Colo.
Other survivors include 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Otto, Henry, Edmond and Amos; four sisters, Amelia Booth, Molly Duncan, Laura Quinn and Ella Costner; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Liberal with David Vartian presiding.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, at Kitch Funeral Home.

SUSIE E. AUSBUN
HUGOTON -- Susie E, Ausbun, 93, died Sunday, April 30, 2000 at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton following a short illness.
She was born December 21, 1906, to William R. and Emma (Burrows) Nicholes, in Columbus.
She moved to Stevens County in 1907 where her parents homesteaded southwest of Hugoton.
She married James H. Ausbun, Aug. 8, 1923, at the home of her father in Stevens County. He preceded her in death May 25, 1981.
She attended grade school at Campaign Country School in southwest Stevens County and high school in Hugoton. After getting married, she worked for many years in the Old Dime Store on Main Street and was also a school bus driver. She later served as secretary of the Stevens County Museum and the Hugoton Chamber of Commerce for many years.
She was very active in the First Church of God where she served as Sunday School superintendent for many years and also taught the adult bible class.
Survivors include two sons; Harold W. Ausbun and wife Helen, Lamar, Colo., and Gary W. Ausbun and wife Frankie, Norfolk, Va.; two daughters; Freda A. Gustafson and husband, Eric, and Shirley K. Kramer and husband, James, both of Hugoton; 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren; 19 great-great grand children and several other loving family members.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert M. Ausbun, and James H. Ausbun, Jr. and wife, Lois, Panhandle, Texas; one daughter, Verla G. Seemann and husband, Kenton, Perryton, Texas; four granddaughters, Patricia C. Ausbun and Sandra K. Ausbun, both of Hugoton, Jamie C. Green, Grand Junction, Mich., and Connie S. Fultz, Akron, Ind.; two brothers, Chester Nicholes, Guymon, Okla. and Charlie Nicholes, Hugoton; and two sisters, Anna Ausbun, Pueblo, Colorado and Mollie Mantzke, Hugoton.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Church of God, Hugoton, with Ausbun's sons, the Rev. Gary W. Ausbun and the Rev. Harold W. Ausbun, presiding. Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the First Church of God, Hugoton.
E.C. GEDDES
MEADE -- E.C. Geddes, 47, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born April 27, 1953, to O.M. and Reny (Adams) Geddes in Independence, Mo.
He had been a Meade resident since 1959 and was a 1972 graduate of Meade High School.
He was an auto body repairman.
Survivors include his fiancee, Coni Alley, Meade; one son, Israel Geddes, Colo.; one daughter , Kerstin Geddes, Colo.; three brothers, Orville Geddes Jr. and wife, Kim, Meade, James Fred Geddes, Oklahoma, and Roy Wade Geddes and wife, Carol, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Odessa Cemetery
in Odessa, Mo., with the Rev. Bob Hampton presiding.
Memorials are suggested to the Meade State Bank in the name of E.C. Geddes, towards the Meade State Lake.
Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, is in charge of local arrangements. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa, Mo. in in charge of the Odessa graveside service.
TINA C. ALIREZ MARTINEZ
Tina C. Alirez Martinez, 36, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center.
Funeral services will be announced by the Miller Mortuary.
KENNETH W. CARLSON
Kenneth W. "Kenny" Carlson, 75, Liberal, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 28, 1924, to LeRoy B. and Eura M. (Hardgrave) Carlson in Waurika, Okla.
He attended school at McPherson and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
When he returned from the service, he worked in the oilfield as a roughneck, driller and tool pusher. He came to Liberal and was co-owner of Carlson Tubing and Casing services with his father. He was an equipment operator for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 15 years.
His hobbies included training and riding horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association of Amarillo, Texas.
He married Eileen Mae Garden in 1948 at McPherson.
Survivors include his wife, Patty; one son, Terry Carlson and wife, Leslie, Edmond, Okla.; one daughter, Beckie Garcia, Garden City; three grandsons, Brian Hawk, and Gavin and Erik Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
An open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Miller Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Chapel.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
with the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to service time Friday at Miller Mortuary.
TINA ALIRES MARTINEZ
Tina Alirez Martinez, 36, Liberal, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Southwest Medical Center, following a sudden illness.
She was born June 18, 1963, to C.J. and Rosalie (Gonzales) Alires.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1982. She had worked at Wal-Mart and, most recently, at Braums. She was a devoted mother and homemaker.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.
She married Tobie Martinez. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Steven and James Martinez; and two daughters, Stephanie and Gloria Martinez, all of the home; three brothers, Robert Alires, Albuquerque, N.M., and Tim and Terry Alires, Liberal; three sisters, Theresa Alires, Liberal, Susie Martinez, Lamar, Colo., and Peggy Jessepe, Horton.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A welcoming home service will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church today.
A vigil and rosary service will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Deacon Erasmo Rodriguez presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
