JAMES H. CRAIG
James H. Craig, 48, of Liberal, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in El Dorado following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 16, 1951, to Theodore and Adelia (Hopkins) Craig in Meridian, Miss.
He graduated from high school in Meridian and later graduated from Liberal Area Vocational-Technical School in Liberal with a refrigeration certification.
He had worked at the Liberal Inn in the kitchen. He had also been a self-employed carpet cleaner.
Survivors include one son, James Craig Jr., Oklahoma City; his father; a sister, Faye Carol Hopkins, Meridian; two nieces and two nephews; loved ones and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services and burial will be in Meridian under the direction of Berry and Gardner Funeral Home.
KENNETH "BILL" HENDRIX
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Kenneth Lee "Bill" Hendrix, 78, former Liberal resident, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev.
He was born Dec. 30, 1921, to William and Effie (Martin) Hendrix in Southard, Okla.
He married Patricia (Waters) Wesley Feb. 14, 1975, in Perryton, Texas. She survives.
He remained in Oklahoma through his childhood and high school years.
He had been a resident of Las Vegas since 1995, when he moved from Liberal.
He had moved to Liberal in 1946 after his honorable discharge with the rank of corporal from the Army Air Force. He lived in Liberal most of his life.
He worked for the Ford Agency during the late 1960s through the early 1970s. He became a partner in the agency.
He owned and operated the Dodge dealership, Hendrix Motors, from 1973-75. He then opened Hendrix Used Cars in 1975 and remained there until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1947 while in Liberal.
Other survivors include one son, David Hendrix, Las Cruces, N.M.; one daughter, Leah Miranda and husband, Manuel, Blackwell, Okla.; one step-daughter, Marcia Clanton and husband, Craig, Liberal; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Winston and Earl Hendrix.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kitch Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal, with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Kitch Funeral Home.

HOOKER, Okla. -- William E. Smith, 80, of Hooker, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at North Plains Care Center in Borger, Texas.

VIOLA R. WHETSTONE
HUGOTON -- Viola R. Whetstone, 94, died today at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Paul's Funeral Home.
JIMMY F. McCLOSKEY
SATANTA Jimmy Franklin McCloskey, 48, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home in Satanta.
He was born June 7, 1951, to Raymond and Evelyn Virginia (Davis) McCloskey in Ulysses.
He moved to Satanta from Morrison, Colo. He was a resident of Satanta for 26 years.
He served his country in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two daughters, Mellissa Harding, Denver, and Angela McCloskey, Liberal; one brother; Marion "Bud" Whiteis, Golden, Colo.; one sister; Judy Zolinski, Wamego; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Amanda McCloskey.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. A cremation has been requested.

GENEVA TOLSON
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Geneva (Kilgore) Tolson, 75, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Albuquerque, N.M.
She was born Oct. 11, 1925, to L.V. and Vallie Kilgore in Tyrone, Okla.
She married Boyd Tolson in April of 1974. He survives.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1943.
Other survivors include one daughter, Vicki Lower and husband, Gene, Rio Rancho, N.M.; her mother; one brother, Carlos Kilgore and wife, Georgia; and one sister, Evalean Forward and husband, Charles, all of Liberal; three sons, Roger Baughman and wife, Rene; and Larry Baughman, all of Albuquerque, and Mike Baughman and wife, Patsy, Clovis, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services will be May 20 in Albuquerque.
ANGIE A. WARD
WICHITA -- Angie Arellano Ward, 32, Wichita, a former Liberal resident, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Miller Mortuary.
VIOLA R. WHETSTONE
HUGOTON -- Viola Ruth Whetstone, 94, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Pioneer Nursing Home in Hugoton.
She was born Aug. 4, 1905, in Pratt.
She moved in a covered wagon from Pratt to Hugoton 90 years ago and had been a resident of Hugoton since that time.
She married Olin Wiley "Cricket" Whetstone in 1927 in Clayton, N.M. He died in 1972.
She was a housewife. She had also been a nurses aide at the Hugoton hospital and worked at Slim Browns Cafe.
She had been a member of the First Christian Church and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Gene Whetstone, Commerce City, Colo., Rickey Wiley Whetstone, Moscow, and Robert Allen Whetstone, Hugoton; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Norman Carl Whetstone, and two grandsons, Christopher Eugene Whetstone and Anthony Carl Whetstone.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hugoton Cemetery
with the Rev. Lee Skelton presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery. Paul's Funeral Home of Hugoton is in charge of arrangements.
JOHN H. WIDENER
John H. Widener, 67, Liberal, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born July 19, 1932, to Roby B. and Della F. (Ward) Widener in Hiawatha, W.V.
He married Lorna J. Benson Nov. 7, 1961, in Pipestone, Minn. She survives.
He was a coal miner in West Virginia and drove a truck. He moved to Liberal in 1967 and worked in the oilfield and owned and operated the Widener's Salvage. He owned and operated the Widener Fiberglassing and Sandblasting for the past 25 years.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a 22-year member of the V.F.W. Elks Lodge, both of Liberal. He was also a member of the no. 49 Miners Union.
Other survivors include one daughter, Johnna (Widener) Howell and husband, Jeff, Liberal; four brothers, Darel Widener, Princeton, Va., Tommy R. Widener, Oklahoma City, and Jimmy B. Widener and Curtis A. "Sam" Widener, both of Liberal; two sisters, Joyce Hill, Raven, Va., and Deloris Hatch, Coleman, Fla.; three grandchildren, Johnathan Widener, and Jessina and Dakota Sauls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Liberal, with the Rev. Stephen Saville presiding.
Burial will follow at the Arkalon Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miller Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
