IRENE METCALF
Irene Metcalf, 83, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.
She was born Feb. 10, 1917, to Robert and Laura (Clement) Harper in Harper County.
She married Kenneth R. Metcalf Dec. 10, 1936, in Beaver, Okla. He died May 11, 1983.
She moved as a young girl to the Oklahoma Panhandle in Texas County and attended school there.
She moved to Beaver County in 1936, and later to a farm northwest of Liberal, where she and her husband farmed for many years. They entertained the Liberal grade school students for many years with educational tours of their farm.
She continued to farm after the death of her husband.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal.
She was also a very active member of the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary in Liberal.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Metcalf and wife, Florence, Hugoton, and Jerry Metcalf, Liberal; two grandchildren, Michael Metcalf and wife, Nancy Putman, Prairie Village, and Janet Kay Sprecker and husband, Tim, Wichita; three great-grandchildren, Brady Putman Metcalf, Riley Putman Metcalf and Skyler Allen Sprecker.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Harper and Melvin Harper; and three sisters, Nora Gloden, Bertha Raglin and Juanita Ciarlino.
Funeral services were Monday at the Miller Chapel with the Rev. Nel Holmes presiding. Burial followed at the Liberal Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the donor's choice, in care of Miller Mortuary, 980 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.
PAUL GENE HALE
Paul Gene Hale, 72, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at his home in Liberal after an extended illness.
He was born April 11, 1928, to Paul Revere and Emma Nadine (Ford) Hale in Texas County, Okla., near Hardesty.
He married Eula Mae Bolinger in 1946 in Hardesty, Okla. He then married Loree Mae Harnden Sept. 2, 1951, in Liberal. She survives.
He started his education in the Liberal school system where his family lived during the Great Depression of the 1930s. In 1939, his family moved to a farm near Hardesty and there he completed his high school education.
He worked for Allen Tire Shop in Liberal until entering the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 during the Korean War.
After the service, he worked at several jobs including farming, working many years as a dispatcher for Groendyke Transport and working as a mechanic for National Beef until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the Trinity Faith Church, Liberal.
He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, 4-H Club and the Liberal Trail Riders.
Other survivors include four sons, Dennis Hale, Turpin, Okla., David Hale and wife, Connie, Liberal, Douglas Hale, Liberal, and Jeff Hale and wife, Jana, Turpin; one daughter, Ronda Hale, Liberal; two brothers, Roy Hale and wife, Gail, Osceola, Mo., and Toby Hale and wife, Daryl, Liberal; two sisters, Myrna Witzke, Tulsa, Okla., and Reida Houtz and husband, Jim, Elkhart; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Faith Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Dr. Ollie Kinser presiding. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Friday. Family will be present to receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Kitch Funeral Home, Liberal.

MARIA A. PEREZ
ULYSSES -- Maria A. Perez, 76, Ulysses, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center - St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 16, 1923, to Jesus and Eristea (Soto) Adamez in Tina, Texas.
She married Locario "Lucky" Perez Aug. 28, 1948, in Beeville, Texas. He survives.
She and her husband moved to Ulysses in 1965, from Hollis, Okla.
She was a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Church in Ulysses.
Other survivors include six sons, Richard Perez and his wife, Maria, Robert Perez, Raul Perez and his wife, Rosa, Rudy Perez and his wife, Josie, Ramiro Perez and his wife, Gracie, all of Ulysses, and Ruben Perez and his wife, Natalie, Liberal; three daughters, Yolanda Gonzales and her husband, Leopoldo, Dora Garza and her husband, Carlos, all of Ulysses, and Viola Bronson and her husband, David, Boynton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Nick Adamez and his wife, Mary, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ted Adamez and his wife, Martha, Beeville; two sisters, Trinidad Zambrano, Gregory, Texas, and Bernarda Garcia and her husband, Francisco, Beeville; and 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Mary Queen of Peace Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. John Kowal presiding.
Burial will be at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.
LLOYD LEROY CRAWFORD
HUGOTON -- Lloyd Leroy Crawford, 73, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born Oct. 4, 1926, to Ernest Leroy and Alba May (Mason) Crawford in Morton County near Elkhart.
He married Dorene Hodges March 26, 1944, in Elkhart. She died June 23, 1994. He then married Phyllis Jones Feb. 11, 1995, in Hugoton. She survives.
He was a retired farmer.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Hugoton, and served as an elder of the church.
He was a president of Kiwanis, Hugoton, a member of Silver Haired Legislator of Stevens County, Midian Shrine, Wichita, a past master of the Hugoton Masonic Lodge No. 406 AF & AM, board member of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home and board
member of the Hugoton Cemetery
Board.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth L. Crawford, Hugoton, and Donald C. Crawford, Hugoton; his mother, Alba May Wayland, Hugoton; one brother, Everett Lee Crawford, Hugoton; two sisters, Norma Stoddard, Hugoton, and Velda Anderson, Ulysses; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Floyd and Glenn Crawford.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Vets Military Group & Masonic Lodge graveside rites at the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.

AMANDA JOANN PENNINGTON
FT. MORGAN Co. -- Amanda JoAnn Pennington, 11, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in an automobile accident in Greeley County.
She was born Nov. 14, 1988, to James and Cindy (Dew) Pennington in Liberal.
She was a former resident of Ulysses and Topeka.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was creative, artistic and loved to imagine new things.
Survivors include her parents; one brother, Spencer Pennington; and two sisters, Lindsay and Natalie Pennington, all of Fort Morgan; grandparents, Charles and JoAnn Dew, Ulysses, Beatrice Pennington, Portsmouth, Ohio, and James Pennington, Wheelersburg, Ohio; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ft. Morgan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ft. Morgan, with Branch President Larry Egley presiding. Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses. Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, is in charge of arrangements.
JAMES TANNER PENNINGTON
FT. MORGAN Co. -- James Tanner Pennington, 15, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in an automobile accident in Greeley County.
He was born March 11, 1985, to James and Cindy (Dew) Pennington in Garden City.
He was a former resident of Ulysses and Topeka.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was active in seminary and church youth activities.
He completed his Eagle Scout Project, lettered in football at Ft. Morgan High School as a freshman, and was re-elected to serve on the student council for a second year.
His hobbies included snowboarding, backpacking, basketball, and football and could
hardly wait for two-day practices to begin in August.
Survivors include his parents, one brother, Spencer Pennington; and two sisters, Lindsay and Natalie Pennington, all of Fort Morgan; grandparents, Charles and JoAnn Dew, Ulysses, Beatrice Pennington, Portsmouth, Ohio, and James pennington, Wheelersburg, Ohio; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ft. Morgan.

MICHAEL N. KINSINGER
Michael N. Kinsinger, 5, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born July 6, 1994 to Todd and Michele (Romero) Kinsinger in Liberal.
He had completed pre-school and was entering kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary School this fall.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.
Survivors include his parents, Liberal; one sister, Remi Shyanne Kinsinger, of the home; grandparents, Kathy Gomez, Liberal, Mike and Patricia Ann Kinsinger, Ulysses, and Karen and Jim Swank, Liberal; great-grandparents, Eva Romero and Leona Stockton, Liberal, and Cora Romero, Guymon, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Romero; and great-grandparents, Ronald and Verlea Kinsinger, and J.B. Stockton.
Welcoming of the body will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church followed by rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Henry Hildebrandt presiding. Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call until 2 p.m. today at the Miller Chapel and from 3-9 p.m. today at the St. Anthony Catholic Church.
NELLIE BAWN WESLEY
Nellie Bawn Wesley, 96, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 25, 1904, to Frank and Memora Pearl (Vanderpool) Miller in Buffalo, Okla.
She married Kyle Bartley May 13, 1926, in Beaver, Okla. He died Jan. 27, 1952. She then married Riffe Wesley in April 1970 in Liberal. He died in June 1974.
She was a Liberal resident since 1934 after moving from Rolla.
She received her education at Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla.
She worked at J.C. Penney, Liberal, for many years in ladies wear and as a seamstress. In 1965, she became the owner and operator of Merle Norman Cosmetics, Liberal, until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church were she was a Sunday school teacher for 66 years.
She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge and was formerly very active with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Dallas
J. Barley and wife, Sammy, Liberal; one daughter, Dorothy L. Saffeels and husband, Curtis, Arvada, Colo.; two step-sons, Bob Wesley, Liberal, and Bill Wesley, Phoenix; one step-daughter, Peggy Holt, Liberal; one half-brother, Harold Miller, Jet, Okla.; three half-sisters, Edith Kenliher, Helena, Okla., Blanche Stark, Midland, Mich., and Minta Munro, Topeka; two grandchildren, Janice M. Lindsay, Aurora, Colo., and Curtis L. Saffeels, Bailey, Colo.; and one great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Anderson and Donald Anderson; and three sisters, Evelyn Filson, Delia Beltz and Geneva Near.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Liberal, with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding assisted by Chaplain Judy Barnes. Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery, Liberal.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Kitch Funeral Home.
