GLADYS RODRIGUEZ
Gladys Rodriguez, 72, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at her home in Liberal following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 16, 1924, to Wallace O. and Mary C. (Haehn) Hermit in Selkerk.
She married Margorito "Lucky" Rodriguez Sept. 15, 1958, in Amarillo, Texas. He survives.
Other survivors include five sons, David and Danny Rodriguez, both of Liberal, Donnie Rodriguez, Monroe, Ore., Jerry Turley, Garden City, and Bill Setters, Fairfield, Calif.; four daughters, Patty Stegman, Liberal, Jo An Petrey, Hobbs, N.M., Sharon Hartman, Lincoln City, Ore., and Paula Price, Irvine, Texas; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Miller Chapel with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.
BENJAMIN F. JINES
Benjamin F. Jines, 95, Liberal, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal following a short illness.
He was born June 8, 1905, to General Sherman and Laura (Adams) Jines in Ochiltree County, Texas.
He married Ida E. McCurdy Feb. 18, 1928, in Perryton, Texas. She survives.
He was a farmer in the Beaver County, Okla., area for 42 years before his retirement in 1985. He moved to Liberal in November 1995.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Turpin, Okla., and the American Quarter Horse of Oklahoma.
Other survivors include one son, Sherman Jines and wife, Sheila, Wichita; one daughter, Betty Lou Weatherby and husband, Wade, Liberal; two brothers, Orville Jines, Busby, Mont., and Herbert Jines, Perryton; one sister, Ida Mae Mason, Narka; four grandchildren, Sherlyn Greer and husband, Rodger, Meryln Sawyers and husband, Bill, Leon Weatherby and wife, Donnell, and Bonnie Stark and husband, Ron; 12 great-grandchildren, Johnny, Amanda, Aaron, Garrett, Brock, Rachel, Kaylee, Justin, Taylor, Trina, Serenia and Jereme; and two great-great-grandchildren, Darius and Kasaundra.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Stanley Lehnert presiding.
Burial will follow at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at Miller Mortuary from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday.
ARTHUR J. OLSON
Arthur J. Olson, 79, Liberal, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the South Church of God in Liberal. Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery
with military honors performed by an honor guard unit from Fort Riley.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
Memorials are suggested to Camp Alexander, in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67905.
JEANE RIXON
SUBLETTE -- Jeane Rixon, 76, Sublette, died early Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.
She was born Oct. 19, 1923, to Edward A. and Marie (Kirkpatrick) Simmons in Ford County.
She married Paul Rixon July 13, 1949, in Raton, N.M. He survives.
She was a lifetime resident of the area. She was a homemaker.
She and her husband owned and operated Rixon Hardware in Sublette for several years.
Other survivors include one son, Eddie Rixon, Sublette; two daughters, Marge Collins and husband, Sonnie, Satanta, and Betty Miller and husband, Ron, Sublette; her mother, Marie Simmons, Garden City; two sisters, June Lawder, Peyton, Colo., and Doris Kleysteuber, Garden City; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Eddie Simmons.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette with Brian Rixon and Jesse Garetson presiding.
Friends may call at the Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m until noon Friday.

RALPH C. SMITH
SUBLETTE -- Ralph Clarence Smith, Turpin, Okla., and former Sublette resident, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita.
He was born May 5, 1910, to Daniel and Elizabeth (Wiens) Smith in Wichita.
He married Reva Maude Clemmons April 1, 1936, in Liberal. They moved from Liberal to Sublette in 1974. She died Jan. 6, 1991.
He married Linda Plett May 29, 1994, in Sublette. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired mechanic.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, and attended the Southern Baptist Church in Sublette.
He was also a member of the American Legion, Post No. 80, and the 40 & 8 Club, both of Liberal.
Other survivors include one daughter, Waneen Clark and husband, Curtis, Satanta; two brothers, Harvey Schmidt and Ronald M. Schmidt, both of McPherson; one sister, Darlene English, Topanga, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Dana Williams and husband, Boyd, Whitney Calderon, Lana Martinez and husband, Tom, Andrea Curtiss and husband, Mike, Clayton Clark and wife, Dina, Teac Clark, Brianne Clark and Chelsie Clark; two stepsons, Leo Plett and wife, Puri, Turpin, and Vernon Plett and wife, Mary Jane, Vicksburg, Miss.; seven great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two brothers, Lavern and A.D. Schmidt; and two sisters, Leona Bartel and Edna Trotter.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, with the Rev. Keith Bryant presiding.
Burial, with military honors, will follow at Restlawn Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

ELIZABETH R. LOEWEN
ULYSSES -- Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rose Loewen, 94, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born June 14, 1906, to John and Maria (Wiebe) Siebert near Hooker, Okla.
She married William H. Loewen Sept. 30, 1928, in Hooker. He died in 1985.
She had been a Ulysses resident since 1944 and was a member of the Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church in Ulysses.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed canning beets, quilting and embroidery.
Survivors include two sons, Alie A. Loewen, Ulysses; and Melville Loewen and wife, Sharon, Cripple Creek, Colo.; four daughters, Lovina Givan and husband, Rex, San Antonio, Texas, Verna Lewis, Wanda Denning and husband, Don, all of Denver, and Agnes Kilgore and husband, Jim, McMinnville, Ore.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Elmer F., Wesley H. and Pete Loewen; four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church in Ulysses, with the Rev. Loyal Martin presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

KATHRYN R. SMITH
HUTCHINSON -- Kathryn R. Smith, 86, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 11, 1913, to Corbett and Della (Dotson) Cain in Tyrone, Okla.
She married Maurice B. Smith March 5, 1935, in Albuquerque, N.M. He survives.
She was the co-owner of the Blackburn Quality Cleaners from 1960 to 1997. She worked for 19 years in the ticket office of the Kansas State Fair.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
She was an avid bridge player.
Other survivors include one son, Warren D. Smith, Arlington; three brothers, Bernard Cain, Mathison, Colo., and Glen Cain and Robert Cain, both of Tyrone; two sisters, Ethel Austin, Tyrone, and Mildred Feese, Liberal; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, George Cain; and one grandson, Larry Smith.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson with Dr. D. Allen Polen Jr. presiding.
Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery
in Hutchinson.
