Josephine Irene Denton, 92, of Atchison, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009 at Vintage Park of Atchison.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Atchison United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Denton Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mrs. Denton has been cremated. Memorial contributions in honor of Mrs. Denton may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or the United Methodist Church. Online condolences to the family may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Josephine was born March 18, 1916 in Doniphan County the daughter of the late George Gambetta and Lucy (Neiderhouser) Gerardy. She was a homemaker and later became the baking instructor at the N.E.K. Vo-Tech where she worked until she was 80. Mrs. Denton was a member of the United Methodist Church in Atchison and was involved in the AUMC Women’s Circles. Josephine was a past Grand Matron of the Eastern Star and member of the N.E.K. Quilters Guild and Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and was in numerous card groups.

Josephine married Floyd Denton November 19, 1937 in Topeka, KS; he preceded her in death August 30, 1976. Survivors include three sons; Harold and Barbara Denton, Las Cruces, NM, Roger and Judy Denton and Steve and Linda Denton, both of Atchison, daughter; Linda and Robert Baum, Westerly, RI, sister; Mary Ann Denton, Atchison, son-in-law John Butter, Lawrence, KS, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Denton, on December 2, 2007 and five brothers.

Brig. Gen., Ret. Charles E. 'Bud' Williams, II, 89, of San Antonio, TX, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009 at a hospital in San Antonio.

Private family services will be held in San Antonio with burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Bud was born November 14, 1919 in the Mt. Pleasant Community, south of Atchison, the son of Ed and Nellie (Hicks) Williams. Bud graduated from Atchison High School in 1937, attended Texas Tech University for two years before joining the US Air Force. Bud served during WW II, Korea, and Vietnam, retiring as a Brigadier General. Following WWII, Bud enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and attended and graduated from Auburn Poly Technical Institute and had worked for the Humble Oil Company in Texas before being recalled to military service in 1951.

Survivors include his wife, Harriette Williams of San Antonio; one son, C.E. Williams III of San Antonio; one daughter, Martha Ann Colman of Racine, WI; two sisters, Margaret Sewell, Lancaster, KS and Ruth Godbey of Topeka, KS; many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Williams; one sister, Louise Dunnuck.

Dorothy Elizabeth Moore, 94 of Atchison passed away Wednesday February 4, 2009 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Mrs. Moore has been cremated, and there will be a private family memorial service at a later date followed by burial in Mt. Vernon cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and may be left in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Dorothy was born December 14, 1914 in Atchison the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth (Watke) O’Neil. She worked at Vick’s Bakery for 6 years before becoming a housewife and homemaker for her family. Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Atchison and enjoyed being part of the different organizations there. She especially enjoyed her family.

Mrs. Moore married E.D. Moore on July 20, 1934 in Plattsburg, MO. He preceded her in death in 1972. Survivors include two sons Frank and Alice Moore, Olathe, KS, and John and Gail Moore, Sedona, AZ, one brother Roy and RoseMary O’Neil, Topeka, KS and two grandchildren Jason and Yolanda Moore, Seattle, WA, Shannon and Brien Schuman, Olathe, KS and two great grandchildren.

Mildred Smith, 101, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Al Zimmerman and Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, KS. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday followed by visitation with family until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Mildred M. Fuhrman was born on October 29, 1907 in Huron, KS the daughter of Ernest C. and Anna Mae (Green) Fuhrman. Mildred graduated from Atchison County Community High School, attended the Emporia State Teachers College and received her degree in Education from the Mt. St. Scholastica College. She taught school for 19 years for the Brown County School District in the Elementary Schools, then at Atchison County School’s for 27 years and the last 14 years of teaching at the Effingham Elementary School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS a 50 year member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, a 50 year member of Martha Washington Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Social Order of Beaucants, former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Friday Afternoon Club, and the Atchison Area Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, reading, fancywork, and being around people.

She was first married to Sadrak “Sod” Larson on June 27, 1929; Mr. Larson preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1958. She was later married to Elmer Smith on Feb. 27, 1975. Mr. Smith also preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1976. Her parents,a foster sister, Mary Louise White, a niece Bonnie Jeanne Albers, a nephew, David Ernest Miller, and a step-son, Dwayne Smith, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her nieces Mary Ann Miller, Rushville, Mo, and Margaret Wiar, Arlington, TX, a nephew, William Miller, Manilla, IA, three step-daughters; Doris Wenger, Whiting, KS, Phyllis Holmes, Shawnee, KS, and Nina Howes, Independence, MO, seventeen great nieces and nephews, and three great great nephews.

Joseph K. Julo, 48 years of age, of Atchison, KS died Monday, February 2nd, 2009 as a result of an accident at work in Atchison, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, Feb. 6th, 2009 at the First Christian Church, 7th and Santa Fe St., Atchison, KS with Rev. Lee Hendon, officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at 2:30 PM at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service on Friday, at the church. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Clubs for Kids Organization and can be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Joseph K. Julo was born on Sept. 24, 1960 in Kansas City, Mo, the son of Earl C. and Beatrice (Generaux) Julo. He graduated from Ruskin Heights High School, Kansas City, MO, and attended Maple Woods College. Mr. Julo after many years of retail management began his 11 year career at Golden Star Inc. where he served as Vice President of Manufacturing. He was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was instrumental in the Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Joe and his wife Michelle founded and ran the Atchison Clubs for Kids, an organization designed to inspire kids to learn valuable characteristics through the game of golf, for more information about Joe’s passion go to www.atchisonclubsforkids.org. Mr. Julo was formerly involved with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, in Kansas City. He enjoyed golfing, leisure traveling, and time spent with family.

He was married to Michelle Richardson on May 3, 1997 in Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Julo survives of the home in Atchison. Additional survivors include his father and step mother, Earl C. and LaWanda Julo, Lee’s Summit, MO ,a daughter, Lisa Tseng, of the home, five brothers; Gary (Debbie) Winters, Richmond, MO, Earl D. (Libby) Julo, Overland Park, KS, Mike (DeDe) Julo, Atchison, KS, Ray (Susan) Julo, Lee’s Summit, MO, Mark (Amy) Julo, Olathe, KS, a sister; Kathy (Fred) Smith, Lee’s Summit, MO, his mother-in-law; Malissa Matthews, Perry, IA, Sister-in-law; Heather (Matt) Richardson, Perry, IA, and twenty-one nieces and nephews. His mother, Beatrice Julo, paternal grandparents ; Earl C. and Helen “Nana” Julo, Sr., maternal grandparents; John & Nellie Workman, and grandfather-in-law; Virgil Pantier, all preceded him in death.

Linda J. Bilderback, 62, Cummings, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Camp Creek Cemetery, 5519 Meade Rd. Cummings, KS. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Saturday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mrs. Bilderback has been cremated. Linda was born February 19, 1946 in Doniphan County the daughter of the late Marion and Nellie (Wilson) George. She graduated from Midway-Denton High School. Linda had worked in the accounting department of the former Rockwell/Atchison Casting for 37 years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, bowling, feeding her fish, collecting watering cans but most of all spending time with her family.

Linda married James Bilderback in 1976 in Atchison, KS, he survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons; Ronnie (Sheila) Bilderback, Cummings, KS, Donnie (Yvonne) Bilderback, Bon Carbo, CO, Jeff (Cheryl) Bilderback, Belton, MO, two daughters; Bonnie (Mark) Bilderback-Vess, and Connie (Mike) Shelton, both of Alda, NE, four brothers; Tom George, Gary George, both of St. Joseph, MO, Larry George, Palm Bay, FL, Charlie George, Everest, KS, four sisters; Loree Christensen, Topeka, KS, Faye Baker, Horton, KS, Wilma Bierbaum, St. Joseph, MO, Mary Wood, Geneseo, KS, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; Keith, Bill and Richard George.

Virgil Carson, 96 of Atchison, KS, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Monday, January 26, at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, with burial in Cummings Cemetery in Cummings, KS. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00PM Sunday January 25, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Abundant Life Hospice 845 Central Ave., Horton, KS 66439 and may be left in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Virgil was born June 7, 1912 in Shannon, KS the son of Riley and Ella (Andre) Carson. Mr. Carson was a lifelong resident of the Atchison community; he farmed as a young man and later drove a gasoline transport for Holton Transport in Holton, KS. He also worked for Consumer Oil in Atchison, until he retired some 15 years ago. Virgil was a past member of Eagles and served as president for two terms. Virgil was a well known Kansas trapshooter and a member of the American Trapshooters Association and was inducted into the Kansas Trapshooters Association Hall of Fame in 2000.

Virgil Carson married Florence Russell on October 15, 1931 in Troy, KS. She preceded him in death in 1986, a daughter Dorothy Brading, and a sister Mildred Phillips also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons Virgil Lee (Butch) and Jackie Carson, Tracy, CA Robert and Wanda Carson, Lee’s Summit, MO, a brother Harold (Corky) Carson, Council Grove, KS, 15 grandchildren, 41 great grand children and 21 great great grandchildren and a dear friend Jo Shell.
