JAMES R. "J.R." PAXSON II

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- James Robert "J.R." Paxson II, 59, of Holly, Colo., formerly of Turpin, Okla., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Aurora, Colo.

He was born June 29, 1941, to James Robert "Bob" and Lavon (Cassell) Paxson in Columbus.

He married Velma Freeman in 1974. She survives.

He was a professional truck driver and farmer.

He was actively involved in the development of a volunteer fire station in his community, and the station was named J.R. Paxson Memorial-Webb Volunteer Fire Station.

Other survivors include his mother; one son, James Aaron Paxson and wife, Lisa, Turpin, Okla.; one brother, Steve Paxson and wife, Barb, Baxter Springs; three grandchildren, Whitney, Hunter and Taylor; one nephew, Matt Paxson and wife, Gayle, Springfield, Mo.; three nieces, Emily and Alexis Paxson, Baxter Springs, and Jennifer Paxson, Fort Worth, Texas; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Max Paxson.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Star Community Church, south of Holly, with Gary Ogle presiding.

Cremation has already taken place.

Memorials are suggested to the J.R. Paxson Memorial-Webb Volunteer Fire Station project in care of Colorado East Band and Trust in Holly, Colo.

DOROTHY C. HILL

Dorothy C. Hill, 81, of Liberal, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Sept. 1919, to Ira G. and Edythe M. (Stricklin) Ives in Seward County.

She married John W. Hill July 5, 1939.

She attended school in Praireola and later at Liberal High School.

She had lived in Coldwater from 1962-1978, where she worked at the Pioneer Lodge.

She returned to Liberal in 1978 and was employed by Seward County Community College as a cook for six years. She also worked at Thompson Laundry for six years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, MacArthur Sunday school class, the Dorcas Circle and the Sunshine Circle.

Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing and quilting.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Hill, Walnut Creek, Calif., and David J. Hill, Freemont, Neb.; three daughters, Margaret Naylor, Wichita, Eleanor Hough, Liberal, and Debbie Warren and husband, Calvin, Deming, N.M.; three sisters, Elizabeth Hill and Imogene Smith, both of Liberal, and Edythe Poteet and husband, Sonny, Moscow; 10 grandchildren, Robert Naylor, Cindy Brockhoff, John Naylor, Kelly Naylor, Lorenda Naylor, Jeffery M. Hough, Jarrod M. Hough, Joseph M. Hough, Cheri Warren and Adam Warren; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one son, Dennis Hill.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. until service time Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to the Liberal Good Samaritan Center in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

JOE L. WHISENANT

Joe L. Whisenant, 65, of Liberal, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 12, 1935, to Cull and Alice (McWilliams) Whisenant in Turpin, Okla.

He married Janet Bromlow April 7, 1984, in Liberal. She survives.

He grew up in the Floris, Okla., community and attended Turpin school. Later, he graduated from the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo.

He was a life-long farmer in Beaver County, Okla., and the Floris community. He retired in the fall of 1992.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Liberal.

He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1947 in Liberal for more than 40 years.

Other survivors include his mother; one son, Tony R. Whisenant and wife, Maria, Liberal; one daughter, Diana C. Hunter, Kennesaw, Ga.; one step-daughter, Ronda J. Schilling and husband, Scottie, Follett, Texas; one sister, June Kissock and husband, Jerry, Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Traci Whisenant, Preston Whisenant, Samantha Whisenant and Chrystal Hunter; two step-grandchildren, Derek Schilling and Blair Schilling; and three nephews, Dr. Kelly Kissock, Bill Kissock and Tim Kissock.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Liberal with the Rev. Tom Wilkins presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to the Liberal Memorial Library or to the Alzheimers and Similar Diseases in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

DIANA M. STINCHCOMB

FOWLER -- Diana Marie Stinchcomb, 40, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga.

She was born June 5, 1960, to Neal

Edward and Betty Louise (Hogue) Weber in Meade.

She married Robert Allen "Bob" Stinchcomb May 30, 1987, in Wichita. He survives.

She graduated from Fowler High School in Fowler, Colby Community College in Colby and Fort Hays State University in Hays.

She had been a resident of Tifton, Ga., for the last four years. She was an administrative assistant for the Guidance Office of Tift County High School in Tifton.

She was a member of the Baptist Faith Church in Tifton.

Other survivors include her parents; and one daughter, Jena Lynn Stinchcomb, Tifton.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at the chapel of Tifton First Baptist Church in Tifton.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler with Tom Elliott presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Diana Stinchcomb Memorial Fund in care of Peoples State Bank and Trust, 72 East Parker Street in Baxley, GA, 31513.

Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES R. GARETSON

MONTEZUMA -- James Reynolds Garetson, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his home in Montezuma.

He was born Jan. 22, 1922, to James Davies and Laura Magdalena (Reynolds) Garetson in his family home northeast of Haskell County.

He married Martha Loucks Aug. 19, 1944, in Copeland. She survives.

He had been a lifetime resident of the Haskell County area, and had been a resident of Montezuma since November of 1996.

He was a farmer and stockman.

He was the secretary of the Providence Grain board.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Copeland. He was a past-member of the Copeland and Colusa school boards.

His hobbies included playing cards and dominoes.

Other survivors include one son, Jesse James Garetson and wife, Jerra, Copeland; six daughters, Chloe Rita Dohrmann and husband, Mike, Ensign, Kerri Batman and husband, Eric, Great Bend, Andrea Cearley and husband, Michael, Sublette, Debra Henley and husband, Richard, Melanie Penner and husband, Ron, and Shelly Baldwin and husband, Sid, all of Wichita; two brothers, L. Miner Garetson and wife, Lillian, Copeland, and Robert "Red" Garetson and wife, Martha Helen, San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Mary Bell and husband, Charles, Milan, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Garetson, Paul Garetson and Howard Garetson; and two sisters, Marjorie Waldron and Wanda McManus.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Junior High Gymnasium in Copeland with Pastor Warren Cico presiding.

Burial will be at the Copeland Cemetery in Copeland.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to the Montezuma Community Hall-Senior Center, the United Methodist Church, the Copeland Santa Fe Senior Center or donor's choice in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

FRANCES J. PATTON

HUGOTON -- Frances Jewell Patton, 81, of Hugoton, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Sept. 8, 1919, to Ray Charles and Pauline (Roberts) Sisco in Golden, Mo.

She married Aubry R. Patton Dec. 16, 1941, in Exeter, Mo. He died Aug. 20, 1981.

She and her husband moved to Hugoton in 1947, from Vilas, Colo.

She attended the First Christian Church in Hugoton. She was a member of the Glow Worm Band in Hugoton, and a past-member of the Rebekah Lodge in Hugoton.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Lee Phillips and wife, Shirley, Springdale, Ark., Robert Patton and wife, Carolyn, Amarillo, Texas, and Charles Patton and wife, Annie, Cooper, Texas; one daughter, Judy Sapp, Hugoton; one brother, James Sisco and wife, Barbara, Raytown, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Spain, Monett, Mo., and Louise Crim, Gladestone, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Paul Sisco, Bob Sisco, Rod Sisco, Bill Sisco and Johnny Sisco.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Minister Larry Bradford presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
