RALPH E. HENRY
Ralph E. Henry, 61, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Nov. 15, 1939, to Willard and Jessie M. (Bromwell) Henry in Plains.
He grew up and attended school in Plains. He moved to St. John in 1956 and graduated from high school there in 1958.
He worked for Western Electric in Wichita. He later transferred to Houston, Texas, where he retired in 1984, and then moved to Liberal.
He drove dragster cars for 15 years for the Pepsi Cola and R.C. Williams on the national circuit.
He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his mother, Jessie (Strickland) and step-father, Bud McDermott, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; one son, Scott Henry; and two daughters, Brenda and Wendy; three brothers, Larry Henry and wife, Beverly, Colorado Springs, Colo., Sam Henry and wife, Judy, Maysville, Okla., and Kent Henry and wife, Carolyn, Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Dixie Barnhardt and Christal Collins, both of Truth or Consequences.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Chapel with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding.
Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at the Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miller Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8-11 a.m. Wednesday.
CORDELIA NUSSER
ELKHART -- Cordelia Frances (Babb) Nusser, 86, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 1, 1914, to Albert Franklin and Cordelia May (Davis) Babb at Wesley Hospital in Wichita.
She attended grade school at Fairmount Grade School, Roosevelt Intermediate School and graduated from Fairmount College, which later became Wichita State University, with a degree in Home Economics education.
She moved to Elkhart in September 1936, where she taught home economics and social sciences at the Elkhart High School.
She married Lester Wesley Nusser May 22, 1938. He preceded her in death.
She was a wife, homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women and Coterie Club, until her illness prevented her from attending.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Lu Nusser Galish and husband, Ron, Coraopolis, Pa.; one son, John Franklin Nusser and wife, Karen Sylvia (Carlson) Nusser; and two granddaughters, Diana Rae Nusser and Denise Kay Nusser.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
Burial followed at the Elkhart Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home in Elkhart.
Memorials may go to the United Methodist Church or to the Morton County Care Center.
ANNABELLE BRESSLER
ELKHART -- Annabelle Bressler, 83, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at her home in Elkhart.
She was born Dec. 7, 1917, to Irwin and Margaret Cundith in Sterling.
She married Norval Bressler May 30, 1936, in Sterling. He died in April of 1995.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley Bressler and wife, Bobbie, Elkhart, and Robert Bressler, San Antonio; one sister, Audrey Elmore and husband, Troy, Henderson, Nev.; one sister-in-law, Velma Liscum, McPherson; five grandchildren, Mark, Reid, Mike, Traci and Danetta; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart with the Rev. Kenton Van presiding.
Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.
Memorials are suggested to Whistle Stop Park in care of Harrell Funeral Home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
FLORENCE M. TAPSCOTT
ROCKY FORD, Colo. -- Florence Marie (Luke) Tapscott, 66, of LaJunta, Colo., died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in LaJunta.
She was born Dec. 22, 1934, to Marion Everette and Bertha Charlotte (Brand) Luke in LaJunta.
She married David William Tapscott Jr. June 1, 1953, in Raton, N.M. He survives.
She attended LaJunta schools and graduated from LaJunta High School in 1952.
She worked in retail sales at Larson Jewelers, Sylwood Clothing, Montgomery Wards and later as a
bookkeeper/office manager at Big R.
She also helped in the family rental business until 1990.
She joined the Fine Arts League and painted and sold various media artwork in the amateur category until 1995, when she began selling professionally.
She was a member of her high school class reunion committee. She also taught Sunday school and Bible school and later was a member of Bible Study Fellowship.
She was also a member of the United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include two sons, Douglas Alan Tapscott and wife, Kim, Coatesville, Pa., and David Wayne Tapscott, Parker, Colo.; one daughter, Cynthia Lynne Lyddon and husband, Bill, Liberal; five grandchildren, William Nathaniel Lyddon, Laura Marie Lyddon, and Christina Irene Lyddon, all of Liberal, Jason William Tapscott and Sean Michael Tapscott, Coatesville; three brothers, Harold Marion Luke and wife, Muriel, Hasting, Neb., Robert "Bob" Samuel Luke and wife, Ann, Tomball, Texas, and Roy Isaac Luke and wife, Sally, Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Mable Loleta Campbell, Denver, Muriel Evelyn Hostetter, Willow Springs, Mo., Ruth Nettie Malcolm and husband, John, Clovis, Calif., and Esther Charlotte Yates and husband, Jack, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one aunt, Nellie Kenworthy, Ordway, Colo.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Isabel (Luke) Schaeffer; and one brother, John Henry Luke.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in LaJunta.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either Hospice of LaJunta, The American Cancer Society or to the United Methodist Church in LaJunta, all in care of Grooms Crematory and Mortuary, 28033 Rd. 21, Rocky Ford, CO 81067.
DONALD W. JENNINGS
Donald W. Jennings, 60, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Dec. 31, 1940, to Villa and Mildred "Mitt" (Session) Jennings in Hugoton.
He married Carol Nelson in 1960 in Garden City.
He married Donna Sanchez in 1983 in Garden City.
He attended school in Garden City.
He was employed as a butcher at Smith Packing Co. for 10 years, and later was maintenance supervisor at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was store manager at Alco for three years in Liberal.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Garden City.
Survivors include his mother, Garden City; two sons, Timothy Wade Jennings and Villa Scott Jennings, both of Springfield, Ill.; one step-son, Michael Whitis, Milwaukee, Wis.; two brothers, Kenneth Villa Jennings and wife, Lupe, and Mitcheal Jennings, all of Garden City; two sisters, Loretta Jennings and Patricia McIntyre, both of Garden City; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary.
OREN J. REUSSER
ULYSSES -- Oren Jared Reusser, 90, of Ulysses, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Bob Wilson
Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born July 17, 1910, to David A. and Emma (Stucky) Reusser in Moundridge.
He married Dorothy V. Yergler June 20, 1937, in Clearwater. She survives.
He graduated from Clearwater High School in 1928, and farmed with his father and brothers in Haskell County for five years.
He enrolled at Kansas State University and graduated with honors in 1937, having earned a bachelor's of science degree in agriculture. Then he attended Iowa State University.
He moved to Garden City and was a county extension agent for seven years.
He moved to Grant County in 1946, where he farmed until he was 80 years old.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.
Other survivors include two daughters, Betty L. Thompson and husband, Larry V., Annapolis, Md., and Joyce E. Stuntzner and husband, Ronald E., Coos Bay, Ore.; two brothers, Alton Reusser, Wellington, and Rae Reusser, Viola; one sister, Florence Shermer, Conway Springs; four grandchildren, Kimberly Sadtler, Kenton Thompson, Denise Stuntzner-Gibson and Susand M. Stuntzner; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry D. Reusser; two brothers, Martin S. Reusser and Jennings Reusser; and one sister, Lydia Solter.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Dr. Max Clayton presiding.
Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Clearwater Cemetery
in Clearwater.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday.
