HAZEL C. OBLANDER
Hazel C. Oblander, 89, of Liberal, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 27, 1911, to Clarence E. and Anna Gusta (Fast) Thomas in Palmyra, Mo.
She married Maro E. Oblander Nov. 19, 1929, in Liberal. He died Aug. 11, 1966.
She moved to Liberal in 1920. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1929.
She was a bookkeeper for Nash Finch for more than 35 years. She retired in 1976.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the MacArthur Sunday school class. She participated in the Living Christmas Tree for over 10 years. She completed the Menninger Bible Study program.
She was a member of the BPW, Book Review Club II, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Galloping Gourmet, Hospital Auxiliary, Seward County Election Board, Toastmistress
International, Pancake Camping Club, Senior Citizens, three bridge clubs, TOPS, Swishers, and Rhythmaires and Rhythms.
She was a volunteer for the reading program at Garfield Elementary in Liberal.
Her hobbies included reading and attending water aerobics classes.
Survivors include one son, Robert Oblander and wife, Jonice, Liberal; three daughters, Lila Jean Hagaman and husband, Jay, Liberal, Susy Schaeperkoetter, Seattle, and Betty Miller and husband, Ivan, Amarillo, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Douglas Brewer; Karen Mall and husband, Scott; Kathy Schaeperkoetter; Debby Detert and husband, Carl; Robin Schaeperkoetter and husband, Paul Leonard,; Lynn Miller and wife, Tanja; Cathy Dillon and husband, Rusty; John Miller and wife, Becky; Jeff Miller and wife, Janai; Linda Loomis; Dorinda Brucken and husband, Allen; and Jason Oblander; and 20 great-grandchildren, Esther Cochran, Jacob Cochran, Robert Smith, Kristine Smith, Eric Detert, R.C. Leonard, Meg Leonard, Lance Miller, Leslie Miller, Tomi Dillon, Timmy Dillon, Traci Dillon, Jennifer Miller, LeeAnn Miller, J.W. Miller, Rex Miller, Heath Miller, Kayla Miller, Katie Hill and Zachary Loomis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.

MURIEL O. FRENCH
Muriel O. French, 78, of Liberal, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born June 29, 1922, to Rube and Stella Alexander Rawlins in Tyrone, Okla.
She moved with her family to Hollis, Okla., when she was an infant.
She graduated from Hollis High School with the class of 1939.
She married Melvin L. French Dec. 23, 1940, in Hollis. He survives.
She and her husband homesteaded 12 miles west and 2 miles south of Liberal until 1956, at which time they moved into Liberal. She and her husband resided in Liberal until 1976, at which time they moved back to the farm. They moved back to Liberal in 1999 and have resided here since that time.
She was involved in child care, took in ironing jobs and for several years served families with private home health care.
She was employed by J.C. Penney's, when it was located downtown, for several years.
She was a member of the Western Avenue Church of Christ and a member of the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary until 1998.
Other survivors include three sons, Ron French and wife, Karla, Rawlins, Wyo., Stan French and wife, Judi, Denver, and Dennis French and wife, Dedee, Hugoton; three daughters, Melva Fishell and husband, bob, Liberal, Loree Pigeon and husband, Leon, Chouteau, Okla., and Dora Favela and husband, Silverio, Liberal; one brother, Orville Rawlins and wife, Berdine, Hooker, Okla.; one sister, Jewel Hamm, Hillsboro, Ore.; 43 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Fred, Howard and H.B.; and two sisters, Lois and Jewis.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal with John Morgan and Mike Schroeder presiding.
Burial will be at the Tyrone Cemetery
in Tyrone.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Western Avenue Church of Christ.

JOHN W. NORRIS
PAMPA, Texas -- John W. Norris, 76, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Pampa.
He was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Partridge.
He married LaVon Stoddard May 22, 1950, in Liberal. She died Aug. 12, 1992.
He later married Linda Williams Feb. 14, 1993, in Pampa. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He moved from Liberal to Pampa in 1965.
He was employed by Northern Natural Gas for 17 years and was later self-employed in the oil and gas industry as a personnel contractor for several years.
He helped build Lone Star Friends Church in Hugoton.
He was past president of Lovet Memorial Library Board of Directors in Pampa and was past president of the Friends of the Library, who awarded him the "Patron of the Year" award for 2000.
He was a former board member of Girlstown USA in Borger, Texas, and was past director of Good Samaritan Christian Services in Pampa.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Pampa.
He was also a foster parent for several years.
Other survivors include one son, Robert Dale Norris, Kansas City; two daughters, Johnnie Aven, Carrollton, Texas, and Glenna Norris Williams, Richmond, Texas; one foster daughter, Becky Vega, Plainview, Texas; three brothers, Roy Ralston, Pratt, Vernon Ralston, Liberal, and Dean Norris, Hutchinson; five sisters, Wanda Fagan, Dumas, Texas, Crystal Chase, Memphis, Tenn., Norma Chase, Houston, Patricia Dillon, Loveland, Colo., and Elda Barker, Solana Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Central Baptist Church in Pampa with the Rev. Rick Parnell and Dr. Edwin Cooley presiding.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery
in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa.

ROBERT C. JOHNSON
BORGER, Texas -- Charles C. "R.C." Johnson, 69, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in Borger.
He was born Feb. 17, 1932, to Arthur Eugene and Myrtle Frances (Hilton) Johnson nine miles north of Friona, Texas.
He married Patricia Ann Bronson Dec. 10, 1954. She survives.
He had been a resident of Borger for the past 14 years.
He graduated from Plainview High School in 1951. He began his employment with Southwestern Public Service in December of 1951.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1952, and served in the Artillery division. After serving for two years, he was honorably discharged.
Following his service in the Army, he returned to work for SPS as a general foreman until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of the Guymon, Okla., Lions Club until he was transferred to Borger.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy Charles Johnson and wife, Nancy, Guymon, and Robert Eugene Johnson and wife, Vickie, Elk City, Okla.; one daughter, Donna Kay (Ketcherside) Esser and husband, J.B., Kismet; one sister, Leota Bolding, Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson and Nicole Johnson, both of Guymon, Monica Cox and husband, Brian, Plains, and Jimmy Ketcherside, Kismet; and three great-grandchildren, Baleigh Watson and Jayden Johnson, both of Guymon, and Logan Cox, Plains.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Waddell.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Fountains of Brown Funeral Directors in Borger with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe presiding.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elmhurst Cemetery
in Guymon with the Rev. Lloyd Riddles presiding.
Honorary casket bearers are Emmett Rice, Bob Crump, Scott Hindman, Dennis Hood, Ricky Bolding, Bobby Bolding and Kelly Lee Wright.

RONALD D. SEAMAN
Ronald D. Seaman, 70, of Liberal, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born March 24, 1931, to Arthur M. and Eva E. (Anderson) Seaman in El Dorado.
He married Pat Prewett Sept. 4, 1954, in Salina. She survives.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. He attended Kansas State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1954 and his master's degree in civil engineering in 1960.
He was employed by KDOT in Colony, the Department of the Interior in Alaska, Wilson and Company in Salina and taught at the KSU engineering department for several years.
He moved to Liberal in 1960 and began Nixon and Seaman from 1960-1988. He opened R.D. Seaman and Associates in 1988, which later became Trans Systems.
He became city engineer of Liberal in 2000.
He also served as the Seward County engineer for many years. He served on the drafting department Advisory Board at Southwest Kansas Technical School in Liberal.
He was an officer in the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and elder.
He was also a member of the Liberal Noon Lions Club and a former member of the Elks Lodge No. 1947 in Liberal.
He was a member of the Kansas Engineering Society and the National Engineering Society.
His hobbies included sailing and building and flying model airplanes. He was a pilot and was certified as instrument rated.
Other survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Seaman and husband, Jim Rosenhoover, Wichita, and Cynthia Riedel, Council Grove; one sister, Marian Anderson and husband, Andrew, San Francisco; and three grandchildren, Lesley Rosenhoover, Nicholas Riedel and Zackary Riedel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Topeka.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal to sign the register book. The casket will remain closed.
