IVA M. STANLEY

HUGOTON -- Iva Merrill Nix Stanley, 79, Hugoton, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, in Medicine Lodge.

She was born July 5, 1921, to Austin and Ella (Landess) Florence in Stevens County.

She married Homer G. Nix Nov. 28, 1953. He died Feb. 4, 1991.

She married Charles M. Stanley Aug. 8, 1992. He died June 19, 1997.

She had been a lifetime resident of Stevens County.

She was a homemaker and was employed as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until she retired in 1958.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Foulkrod and husband, William, Medicine Lodge, Rita Jean Kirk and husband, Joel Dunn, Medicine Lodge, and Linda Ramey and husband, Jim, Orlando, Fla.; one step-daughter, Ramona Martinez and husband, Martin,

Liberal; two sisters, Eva Vollmer, Hugoton, and Bonnie Rusick, Pueblo, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tom Florence, Ernest Florence and Kenneth Florence; and two sisters, Alta Farmer and Bernice Cox.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, 67951.

ARCHIE SMITH

MONTEZUMA -- Archie Smith, 76, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

He was born Oct. 16, 1924, to Henry X. and Minnie (Dirks) Smith in Montezuma.

He married Edna Viola Friesen in 1944 in Montezuma. She survives.

He had been a resident of Sublette for one year before moving to the Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of the Soybean Club and an honorary member of Paralyzed Veterans of American, Synonon of California.

Other survivors include one son, L. Gene Smith and wife, Joyce, Garden City; one brother, David Smith, Montezuma; two sisters, Irene Koehn, Sublette, and Agnes Unruh and husband, Sam, Montezuma; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharlene Lynette Miller; three brothers, Dewey Smith, John Smith and Albert Smith; and two sisters, Lena Yost and Lizzie Koehn.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Morningside Church in Montezuma with the Revs. Lyn Hansen and Ervey Unruh presiding.

Burial will be at the Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to the Satanta Long Term Care Unit in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

CHRISTROPHER A. WILKINSON

LAVERNE, Okla. -- Christropher Alan Wilkinson, 15, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, from injuries he sustained in a a motor vehicle accident.

He was born July 13, 1985, to Sammy and Theresa Wilkinson in Shattuck, Okla.

He was an eighth grade student in the Laverne School system.

Survivors include his parents of the home; two brothers, Samuel Joe Wilkinson and Nichlos Wilkinson, both of the family home; two sisters, Ashley and Mandy Wilkinson, both of the family home; grandparents, William and Nelda Bump, Dallas, Texas, Franky and Elaine Johns, Sharon, Okla., and Jay Wilkinson, Woodward, Okla.; great-grandparents, Al and Georgia Jacobs, Laverne; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Shackelford Hall, Laverne Schools, with the Rev. Wes Peterman presiding.

Burial will be at the Laverne Cemetery in Laverne under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.

GRACE WILSON

RUIDOSA, N.M. -- Grace Kmita (Kupczick) Wilson, former Liberal resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at her home in Ruidosa.

She was born July 9, 1921, to Theodore and Mary Kupczick in Tahlequah, Okla.

She was raised on a farm near Tahlequah.

She attended, and graduated from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma after graduating high school. She completed cryptographic school.

She began teaching elementary school prior to World War II. She taught school in Liberal and Perryton, Texas, for several years. She was a retired school teacher.

She enlisted in the United States Army after the outbreak of World War II and was sent to serve in Africa. While in the Army she served as the cryptographer.

She married Fred L. Wilson Jan. 30, 1947 in Independence, following their discharge from the Army. They met in Africa while decoding messages in General Dwight D. Eisenhower's headquarters. Her husband, Fred, survives.

She and her husband moved to Ruidoso in 1983 from Tahlequah.

She attended the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso Downs.

She was active in the women's auxiliary and the garden club. She was voted Ruidosa Citizen of the Year in 1999.

Other survivors include three sons, J.L. Wilson, Ruidoso, Stormy Brian Wilson, Tahlequah, and John Bruce Wilson, Billings, Mont.; four sisters, Georgia Wells, Springfield, Anna Mae Frick, Mary Jane O'Connell and Katherine Carlisle, all of Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren, Kory Wilson, Tulsa, Okla., Kristy Wilson, Tahlequah, Jason Wilson, Ruidosa, and Matthew and Tava Wilson, Billings.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. April 2 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla.

GINA GAYE CURRIER

BEAVER, Okla. -- Gina Gaye Currier, 42, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., following a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 28, 1959, to Ray Vernon and Jo Ann (Branstetter) Cramer in Beaver.

She graduated from Beaver High School.

She married Tommy Dale Currier. He survives.

She lived around Oklahoma, and was a resident of Tulsa for the past few years.

She was a gardener in the landscaping industry.

Other survivors include one son, Jarrod Scott Shuey, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Callie Marie Currier and Jesse Nicole Currier, both of the family home in Tulsa; her mother and Darrell Cox, Woodward, Okla.; one brother, Ray Cramer, Forgan, Okla.; one sister, Sandy Reidle, Weatherford, Okla.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Firstborn in Beaver, with Brother Benny Watkins presiding.

Burial will be at the Overton Cemetery in Beaver, under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.

PATSY YVONNE EVANS

SATANTA -- Patsy "Pat" Yvonne (Scarbrough) Evans, 64, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in an auto accident in rural Seward County.

She was born Feb. 27, 1937, to Henry R. and Juanita L. (Jackson) Scarbrough in Muleshoe, Texas.

She married Bill J. Evans Nov. 29, 1953, in Muleshoe. He survives.

She and her husband moved from Gruver, Texas, to Satanta in 1967.

Her hobbies included attending rodeos, cooking, collecting carousel horses, crocheting, raising flowers and doing yard work.

She was a computer operator for Sublette Feeders in Sublette.

Other survivors include three sons, Gary Evans and wife, Rise, Moscow, Shorty Evans and wife, Marty, and Steve Evans and wife, Tamra, all of Satanta; one daughter, Kay Evans, Spearman, Texas; her mother of Muleshoe; three brothers, Jim Scarbrough and wife, Shirley, of Florida, Robbie Scarbrough and wife, Ellen Gay, Washington, D.C., and Dick Scarbrough and wife, Patricia, Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Williams, Muleshoe, and Janet Hays and husband, James, Lubbock, Texas; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Wayne Scarbrough; one granddaughter, Skeeter Evans; and one brother-in-law, Billy Williams.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Satanta, with the Rev. Larry Myers presiding.

Burial will be at the Dudley Township in Satanta.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

EVERETT CRAWFORD

HUGOTON -- Everett "Lee" Crawford, 60, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born Feb. 6, 1941, to Ernest LeRoy and Alba Mae (Mason) Crawford Wayland in Stevens County.

He married Peggy Barricklow of Hugoton March 11, 1960. She survives.

He was a longtime resident of Hugoton.

He was the owner and operator of Lee Crawford Enterprises, where he worked as a trencher and backhoe operator.

Other survivors include his mother of Hugoton; one son, Jeff Crawford and wife, Diane, Hugoton; two daughters, Robin Reid and husband, Mike, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Christina Sosa and husband, Jon, Liberal; two sisters, Norma Stoddard, Hugoton, and Velda Anderson, Ulysses; seven grandchildren, Curtis, Mark and Abigail Crawford, Benjamin and Amanda Barbo, and Joseph and Kaitlynn Sosa; and one great-grandson, Brandon Barbo.

He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Arnell Wayland; three brothers, James Crawford, Floyd "Tuff" Crawford, and Lloyd Crawford.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, with Pastor Eric Mason presiding.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.

The family requests memorials to the Stevens County Hospital, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
