MARVIN L. BIBY

Marvin L. Biby, 66, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at his home in Liberal following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 5, 1934, to LeRoy and Mary L. (Aikens) Biby in Perkins, Okla.

He married Louise Winkler Jan. 15, 1962, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He attended school in Kingfisher, Okla.

He was employed by area farmers in Kingfisher, Okarche, Okla., and Southwest Kansas.

He had been a resident of Liberal since 1961.

He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberal.

Other survivors include one daughter, Angelia Sue Mason, Lebanon, Tenn.; one brother, Benny Dodd, El Reno, Okla.; and two sisters, Marggie Hurley and husband, Frank, Kingfisher, and Carol Ann Willcutt and husband, Ralph, Okarche.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberal with the Pastor Andrew Wehling presiding.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Banner Cemetery in Dover, Okla., with the Rev. Dr. Paul Johnston presiding.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Marvin L. Biby Memorial Fund in care of Citizens State Bank, P.O. Box 1299, Liberal, KS 67905 or in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

ROBERT L. MADDEN

Robert Lewis "Bob" Madden, 95, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

LEWIS J. SCHROEDER

Lewis J. Schroeder, 93, Liberal, died Sunday, May 14, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

COLLIN ANDREW ISAAC

MEADE -- Collin Andrew Isaac, 6, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his rural Meade home.

He was born June 16, 1994, to Byron S. and Patti (Bender) Isaac in Amarillo, Texas.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Brethren Church of rural Meade.

He was a kindergarten student in the Meade Public School System.

Survivors include his parents of Meade; two brothers, Todd and Tyler Isaac, both of the home; two sisters, Melissa and Megan Isaac, both of the home; his grandparents, Don and Irene Isaac of rural Meade, and Larry and Gloria Bender, Balko, Okla.; and his great-grandmother, Nellie Caffee, Liberal.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Meade, with the Rev. David Cummings presiding.

Burial will be at the Emmanuel Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery in Meade.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler Street, Meade, KS 67864.

MAX D. GOODMAN

JASPER, Ind. -- Max D. Goodman, 67, former Baker, Okla., resident, died of cancer Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his home in Jasper.

He was born March 16, 1934, to Fred O. and Jose B. Goodman in Baker, Okla.

He grew up in Baker and graduated from Eureka High School in 1952. He attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Okla.

He married Lynne C. Bagshaw of Liberal on Jan. 21, 1955. She survives.

He was employed in the natural gas pipeline industry for 40 years. His career took him to Tennessee and later to Indiana where he retired in 1995.

He was an avid Civil War historian and his hobby included touring battlefields and museums.

Other survivors include one daughter, Janis L. Goodman, Downers Grove, Ill.; two sons, Randall M. Goodman, Victor, N.Y., and Ron S. Goodman, Novi, Mich.; two sisters, Freda Harrison, Center, Colo., and Iola Lowder, Del Norte, Colo.; and four grandsons, Kyle, A.T., Ryan and Cameron.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Sgt. Myron W. Goodman; and his parents.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Liberal Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan. J. Frisby presiding.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Baker United Methodist Church, in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second Street, Liberal, KS 67901.

VERNA FINKELDEI

FOWLER -- Verna Finkeldei, 95, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.

She was born March 19, 1906, to William Frank and Rose Florence (Mather) Chipman, in Fowler.

She graduated from Fowler High School.

She married Roman J. Finkeldei Oct. 17, 1944, in Fowler. He died Dec. 31, 1990.

She was a homemaker and a life-time resident of Fowler.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Fowler.

Survivors include one sister, Thelma Hey, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Walter and William Chipman; and one sister, Rose Evelyn Stillwell.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church in Fowler with Alan Snyder presiding.

Burial followed at the Fowler Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Fowler, or to the Fowler Nursing Home.

Fidler-Orme Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

GORDON E. WELLEN

ELKHART -- Gordon Eugene Wellen, 64, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Elkhart.

He was born Sept. 1, 1936, to Cecil Stanton and Girlene (Davison) Wellen in LaJunta, Colo.

He grew up in Springfield, Colo. While still a young man, he began working with a horse trader, Homer Bishop. He also did some custom farming in the southeast Colorado area.

He joined the United States Navy, where he served for two years. He was ship's cook on an Escort destroyer. He returned to Springfield after his discharge from the service.

He married Carolea Griffin Nov. 1, 1958, in Walsh, Colo. She survives.

He and his wife lived south of Springfield for about two years, prior to moving to Elkhart.

He and his wife opened the Rumuda Western Store on Main Street in Elkhart and also supplied merchandise for another western store in Syracuse.

He was always trading and working with horses throughout his life. He put on rodeos and built the Stockyards Arena, an indoor arena in Elkhart. He also preformed custom cattle and worked at the sale barn in Elkhart.

His hobbies also included attending dog races and listening to country music.

Survivors also include three sons, Clayton Wellen and wife, Debbie, Elkhart, Duke Wellen, Alva, Okla., and Ace Wellen and wife, Tammy, Brush, Colo.; his mother, Girlene Bixler, Englewood, Colo.; one brother, Charles Bixler, Englewood, Colo.; three sisters, Phyllis Johnson, Pueblo, Colo., Nonie Gier, Austin, Texas, and Dixie Cogburn, Happy, Texas; one grandson, C.J. Wellen; and three step-grandchildren, Nathan and Breanna Brown and Heather Crouch.

He was preceded in death by his father and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart with Dewy Harris presiding.

Burial followed at the Elkhart Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Elkhart Senior Center in Elkhart.

Services were under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home in Elkhart.

EZRA J. AESCHLIMAN

MONTEZUMA -- Ezra Joel Aeschliman, 90, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home in Montezuma.

He was born Jan. 25, 1911, to Elias "Jack" and Addie Allie (York) Aeschliman in Davis County, Iowa.

He moved with his parents to western Kansas when he was 16 years old.

He married Valetha A. Becker Sept. 7, 1935, in Montezuma. She survives.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montezuma.

Survivors also include one son, Tommy A. Aeschliman and wife, Georgianna, Cimarron; two daughters, Anita A. Caudill and husband, Tommy C., Grove, Okla., and Merna D. Smith and husband, Keith, Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Marion Aeschliman and wife, Nettie, Holly, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Alvin B. Koehn, Montezuma; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Addie Malee, Mary Jane and Katie Marie Aeschliman; two sisters, Katie Marie Aeschliman and Anna Lee Koehn.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman presiding.

Burial followed at the Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma.

Memorials have been established for either the United Methodist Church in Montezuma or the Meade Home Care Montezuma Sector, in care of the Montezuma Funeral Home, P.O. Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
