INES COSTNER

GUYMON, Okla. -- Clara Ines "Fat Mommy" Costner, 100, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.

She was born Oct. 15, 1900, in Oblong, Ill.

She married James Melvin Costner May 19, 1918, in Guymon. He preceded her in death.

She moved to Texas County, Okla., in 1916. She had been a longtime resident of Guymon.

She helped her husband farm and cooked for the hired hands.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught adult ladies Sunday school for many years.

She was also a member of the New Century Club.

Survivors include one son, Johnnie D. Costner and wife, Peggy, Guymon; one daughter, Ruth Fox, Guymon; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, James R. Costner, Joseph L. Costner and Robert Bruce Costner; one daughter, Patricia Mae Wing; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Guymon with the Revs. Leon Lothman and Don Chase presiding.

Burial will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church building fund in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942. Memorials will also be accepted at the church office.

DAN KELLER

WICHITA -- Dan Keller, 89, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 5, 1911, to Gottfried and Marie (Shera) Keller in Lucas.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Gerald) Keller, Liberal, Ralph Keller, Clearwater, and Byron Keller, Wichita; three daughters, Jene Rapp, Aleen Rapp, both of Wichita, and Danna Oxley, South Padre Island, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Wichita.

Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials are suggested to the National Arbor Day Foundation, 211 N. 12th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508.

R.L. SCHROEDER

HUGOTON -- R.L. Schroeder, 52, Farmington, N.M., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

VERNON DIRKS

MONTEZUMA -- Vernon Dirks, 79, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in rural Montezuma as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

DON MOSER

SUBLETTE -- Don Moser, 62, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at his home in Sublette.

He was born May 2, 1939, to Albert and Alice (King) Moser in Greeley, Colo.

He married Roberta Stucker June 9, 1956, in Garden City. She survives.

He and his wife moved from Scott City to Sublette in 1958.

For many years, he leveled land in Southwest Kansas and Oklahoma. He was a roofer and electrician for many years in Southwest Kansas and Oklahoma.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting Club and AAA Association.

He enjoyed country and gospel music, and had his own band and played guitar.

His hobbies included camping, hunting and fishing and playing pitch and dominoes.

Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Moser and Stanley Moser, both of Sublette; two daughters, Susan Howard and husband, Patrick, Dighton, and Dianna Moser, Garden City; step-father, Ernest Baker and wife, Virginia, Goodland; three half-brothers, Michael Baker, Sharon Springs, Ernest Baker, Copeland, and James Baker, Lakeport, Mich.; two sisters, Joan Regnier, Harlingen, Texas, and Janet Nelson and husband, Art, Copeland; one half-sister, Deborah Lucas and husband, Mike, Sharon Springs; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parent and one sister, Juanita Moser.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Sublette with the Minister David Erwin presiding.

Burial will be at the Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

ROBERT E. BROOKS

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Robert Eugene Brooks, 76, died Friday, May 18, 2001, in Chickasha.

He was born May 20, 1924, to Elmer and Juanita (Postlewait) Brooks in Liberal.

He married Charlotte Batt March 27, 1954, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He had been a resident of Chickasha for almost 41 years.

He was employed at PSO for more than 40 years and retired in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Parksview Christian Church.

Other survivors include three daughters, Judith Ann Brooks, Norman, Okla., Nita Jean Howard, Del City, Okla., and Pamela Sue Wilhelm, Fort Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Rippetoe, Austin Brooks Wilhelm, Tyler Meason Wilhelm and Trenton Avery Wilhelm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jean Henderson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkview Christian Church in Chickasha.

Burial will be at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home in Chickasha.

VIOLET M. BOSLEY

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Violet M. "Nanny" Bosley, 55, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at her home in St. Joseph.

She was born May 17, 1946, to Raymond A. and Goldie Edith (Doyle) Hoff in Bucklin.

She married Jerry D. Bosley Aug. 23, 1964, in Mullinville. He survives.

She had been a resident of St. Joseph since 1972. She also lived in Mullinville and Liberal.

She was a medical office assistant and had been a nurse's aid for 36 years. She was also a foster parent for the welfare and juvenile office. She had been a foster parent to 58 children.

She was a member of the East Hills Church of Christ in St. Joseph and Buchanan and Andrew Counties Foster Parents Associations.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry L. Bosley and James L. Bosley, both of St. Joseph, and Cody Allen DeSpain, of the home; two daughters, Michell "Shelly" McCarty and Marsha Bosley Helm, both of St. Joseph; one brother, Elwin Hoff, Fredonia; four sisters, Velma Jean Giles, Hutchinson, Betty Rae Smith, Dallas, Zella Lamkin, Mullinville and Ruth Ann Hamm, Oklahoma City; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the East Hills Church of Christ in St. Joseph.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

CYNTHIA V. AKINS

MOSCOW -- Cynthia Viette Akins, 49, of Allen, Okla., and formerly of Moscow, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born April 23, 1952, to Clifford and Carmen (Munis) Davis in Bishop, Calif.

She married Kenneth Earl Akins Aug. 8, 1988, in Reno, Nev. He survives.

She was a resident of Moscow from 1978 to 1993, when the couple moved to Allen.

She was a cook and a waitress at the B&K Restaurant in Allen.

Other survivors include two sons, Frank Bell and Shannon Bell, both of Allen; two stepdaughters, Shirley White, Moscow, and Mary Dawn Pate, Monett, Mo.; her parents, of Allen; her mother-in-law, Donna Powell, of Allen; one sister, Linda Mayo, Lodi, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Joseph and Mathew Trump and Travis and Rebecca White.

Local funeral arrangements are under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Additional funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Richmond Avenue Freewill Baptist Church in Allen.

Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery, Allen, under the direction of Cristwell Funeral Home, Ada, Okla.

LUCILLE I. SMITH

Lucille I. (Peake) Smith, 79, Liberal, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born June 14, 1921, to Roy and Stella Wyer Leaming in Beaver County, Okla.

She married Ray C. Smith April 17, 1968, in Guymon, Okla. He died Feb. 21, 1990.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years and retired.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the 20th Century Sunday School Class, both in Liberal.

She was also a member of Pioneer Club of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Retirees.

Survivors include one daughter, Gail (Peake) Nelson, Locust Grove, Okla.; two brothers, Ray Leaming and Eldon Leaming, both of Liberal; one sister, Evelyn Whiteley and husband, Roy, Liberal; two grandchildren, Ryan Nelson and wife, Katrina, Liberal, and Brandi Nelson, Inola, Okla.; one nephew, Michael Leaming and wife, Carol, Atworth, Ga.; and two nieces, Linda Johnson and husband, Larry, and Karen Clanton and husband, Jerry, all of Liberal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild and one nephew.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8-11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
