ELSIE M. JACOBS

HOOKER, Okla. ­ Elsie Marie (Thomas) Jacobs, 64, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at her home in Hooker.

She was born Feb. 26, 1937, to Mac and Angela Thomas in Garden City.

She married Robert "Bob" James Jacobs Feb. 23, 1955, in Clayton, N.M. He died Dec. 25, 1998.

She and her husband moved from Lakin to Hooker in 1961.

She was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of TOPPS Club.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth "Jake" Jacobs and wife, Marilee, and David Jacobs and wife, Maria, all of Hooker; one daughter, Veronica "Vicky" Jacobs, of the home; three brothers, Mack Thomas, Amarillo, Texas, Jimmy Dean Stout, Henderson, Colo., and John Thomas, Cheyenne, Okla.; two sisters, Donna Huff, Ft. Hills Ranch, Calif., and Sandra Colon, Canon City, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Kenlee Jacobs,

Ottumwa, Iowa, Shawn Jacobs, Skye Jacobs and Shannon Jacobs, all of Guymon, Okla., Kimberly Jacobs and Leslie Jacobs, both of Hooker, Mikel Smothermon, Hamilton, Ohio, and Megin Miller, El Paso, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Adina Smothermon and Xavier Smothermon, both of Hamilton, Laura Buttry and Dylan Miller, both of El Paso.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, John Anthony; and one grandson, Kasey Duane Jacobs.

A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker with Deacon Paolo Dulcamara presiding.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker with Father Scott Adams presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the Hooker Ambulance Association, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

ANNA L. ROBEY

ULYSSES -- Anna Lucille (Williams) Robey, 91, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses where she had been a resident.

She was born June 19, 1909, to William Burris and Elsie (Bradley) Williams in Paducah, Ky.

She married George Edward Robey Nov. 26, 1927, in Fulton, Tenn. He died in October of 1984.

She and her husband moved from Protection to Ulysses in 1948.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Ulysses.

Survivors include two sons, Dalton Robey and wife, Ida Mae, Pratt, and Elvis "Jim" Robey and wife, Meletta, Oklahoma City; one daughter, Phyllis Thomason and husband, Willard, Ulysses; three brothers, Jack Williams, Dresden, Tenn., Jewell Williams, Arkansas, and Raymond Williams, Lebanon, Mo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Carl Gene Robey and Elzie William Robey; two brothers, Burnet Williams and Dalton Williams; six sisters, Ethel Kerney Strong, Helen Smith, Buton Fuller, Dorothy Mae Williams, Lela Velroy and an infant sister; one grandchild, Carol Beth Robey; and one daughter-in-law, Bennie Robey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Mike Holman presiding.

Burial will be at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Ulysses in care of Grant County Funeral Home, 218 S. Main, Ulysses, KS 67880.

ELSIE O. SCHMIDT

HUGOTON -- Elsie Opal Schmidt, 95, Hugoton, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at her home.

She was born July 19, 1905, to Bob and Sarah (Conkin) Rich in Celina, Tenn.

She married Henry B. Schmidt Sept. 9, 1923, in Hugoton. He died in 1981.

She and her family moved to Fort Gibson, Indian Territory, Okla., soon after her birth and then to Kansas.

She attended Banner School through seventh grade and graduated from Tyrone, Okla., High School in 1923. She was valedictorian of her class.

She was a member of the Hugoton United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, James Schmidt and wife, Evelyn, and Gerald Schmidt, all of rural Hugoton, Richard Schmidt and wife, Charlotte, Duncan, Okla., and Gary Schmidt and wife, Marlene, Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Nellie Holmes presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

ARTHUR D. FILLPOT

SATANTA -- Arthur Dean "Bud" Fillpot, 61, Satanta, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

LILLIAN FRIESEN

Lillian Friesen, 81, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at her home in Liberal.

She was born Aug. 31, 1919 to Thomas and Lillian Wilson in Raton, N.M.

She married Frank Friesen Jan 2, 1948 in Raton. He survives.

She graduated from Raton High School and moved to Liberal in 1946.

She was a certified graphonalysist (handwriting analyst) and an Artex paint instructor.

She was a member of the Trinity Faith Church and Bell Hayne HDU, both in Liberal.

Other survivors include two sons, Frand Dean Friesen and wife, Connie, Liberal, and Woodrow Heals and wife, Rayola, Winfield; two daughters, Patricia Katherine Hibler and husband, Raymond, and Lillian Olson and husband, Robert, all of Liberal; one brother, Tommy Wilson and wife, Henryetta, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Jane Merit, Satanta; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Katherine Jenson and one daughter, Jeanie Johnroe on April 6, 2001.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Faith Church in Liberal with Dr. Ollie Kinser presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

ELMA D. MCDONALD

PLAINS -- Elma D. McDonald, 91, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Racine, Wis.

She was born April 27, 1910, to Samuel and Sude Douglas in Bucklin.

She married George Johnston and later Leo R. McDonald. They both preceded her in death.

She had been a resident of Plains for many years.

She owned and operated Elma's Beauty Shop in Plains from the 1940s until 1970.

She had been a resident of Racine for the last 20 years.

Survivors include one son, Jeffory Johnston and wife, Pamela, Racine; two grandsons, Taggert Johnston and fiance, Emilea Pickett, and Toby Johnston and fiance, Kris Strauss, all of Racine; one great-grandson, Ethan Jeffory Johnston, Racine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Plains Christian Church in Plains with Pastor Andrew Evans presiding.

Burial will be at the Plains Cemetery in Plains.

The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. to service time Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

CLIFFORD STAPLETON

SUBLETTE -- Clifford Stapleton, 78, Sublette, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Feb. 27, 1923, to Ralph B. and Myrtle (Dawson) Stapleton in Seward County.

He married Alda Mae Webb May 27, 1945, in Steven's County. She survives.

He came to Haskell County when he was three and a half years old.

He was a farmer and truck driver, hauling cattle across the country.

He drove an activity bus for Sublette High School.

He was a Scout leader and took the group to the Black Hills, Spanish Peaks and Yellowstone.

He went to Washington D.C. during the agriculture movement.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Sublette, the American Ag Association, Sandhill Racing Association in Garden City and a former member of the Flying Farmers.

His hobbies included RV camping, flying airplanes, fishing and drinking coffee at Hoskinson Implement and Sublette Co-op.

Other survivors include four sons, Roy Van Stapleton and wife, Sharon, Liberal, Randall Stapleton and wife, Pam, Haysville, Rodney Stapleton and wife, Janis,

Mullinville, and Rick Stapleton and wife, Peggy, Dodge City; one daughter, Rita Andsager and husband, Dennis, Hutchinson; two sisters, Francis Trahern, Wichita, and Dorothy Lynch, Hugoton; one sister-in-law, Sarah Stapleton, Sublette; 10 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Stapleton; and one sister, Fern Axton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene in Sublette with the Revs. William Thomas and Andy Shimkos presiding.

Burial will be at Banner Cemetery in Sublette.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene in Sublette or to the donor's choice, both in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
