ADELINE RUDER

DODGE CITY -- Adeline Ruder, 92, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.

She was born Dec. 20, 1908, to John and Margaret (Rohr) Ruder in Munjor.

She married Alex Ruder Feb. 8, 1926, in Munjor. He died May 19, 1968.

She had been a resident of Plains before moving to Dodge City in 1987. She was a retired sales clerk.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Daughters of Isabelle, both in Dodge City. She was also a member of the Green Thumb in Plains.

Survivors include one son, Darrel Ruder and wife, Jan, Dodge City; two daughters, Elizabeth Baalman and husband, Cliff, and Mildred Sheldon and husband, Bob, Plains; two brothers, Henry J. Ruder and Alois J. Ruder, both of Hays; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fred Ruder; and a half-brother, Elmer Pfannenstiel.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade with Father Leonard Stegman presiding.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City with Father Ted Skalsky presiding.

Burial will be at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to either Young at Heart or the Good Samaritan Center, both in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

ELDON LEAMING

Eldon "Leam" Leaming, 75, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Feb. 23, 1926, to Roy and Stella (Wyer) Leaming in Beaver County, Okla.

He and his family moved to Liberal in 1936, and he graduated from Liberal High School in 1944.

He then joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts and many other medals of honor.

He was co-owner of Leaming Laundry; Leaming Implement, an Allis-Chalmers dealer; Peak and Leaming Auto Glass and Body Shop and he and his father owned Leaming Harvest.

He also drove a truck for Yellow Freight and retired in 1986.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166 and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Local No. 795.

He was on the Cradle Roll at the Belleview Methodist Church in the Green-O Community, Okla., and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal.

He was also a member of the American Legion and the Liberal Redskins Booster Club. He was awarded Booster of the Year in 1994-1995.

Survivors include one brother, Ray Leaming, Liberal; one sister, Evelyn Whiteley and husband, Roy, Liberal; one nephew, Dr. Michael Leaming and wife, Carol, Atworth, Ga.; three nieces, Linda Johnson and husband, Larry, and Karen Clanton and husband, Jerry, all of Liberal, and Gail Nelson, Locust Grove, Okla.; six great-nephews, Stacy and Jeff Johnson, Kalin and Drew Farrow, Ryan Nelson and Joshua Leaming; five great-nieces, Angela Hernandez, Sabrina Stefan, Brandi Nelson, Crystal Farrow and Connie Whiteley; and many great-great-nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lucille Smith; and one nephew, Alan Whiteley.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Fred Littlefield presiding.

Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and until service time Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to either Liberal Redskins Booster Club or Southwest Kansas Humane Society, both in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second Street, Liberal, KS 67901.

MARY JANE PETERS

Mary Jane Peters, 71, Liberal, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Dec. 20, 1929, to Richard and Adelaide (Yeo) Commins in Lexington, Neb.

She married Alvin Carson Peters Aug. 17, 1952, in North Platte, Neb. He died Aug. 31, 1999.

She was a homemaker and worked for Alco Discount Store as a cashier and in domestics. She was president of Peters Cleaning Service and Panestakers and worked at the Spur Motel.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Liberal.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Peters, Liberal, James Peters, Wallkill, N.Y., Kenneth Peters and wife, Janette, Vicksburg, Miss; four daughters, Carol Arguello and husband, Robert, Lamar, Colo., Cheryl Peters and Patricia Peters, both of Liberal, and Janet Gibson and husband, Miles, Dodge City; three brothers, Roy Commins, Lexington, Neb., Dean Commins, Warsaw, Mo., and Martin Commins, Durand, Mich.; one sister, Ruth Macomber, Hastings, Neb.; and six grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Earl Commins.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Liberal with Robert Forks presiding.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

LEROY "BUD" WARNER

ULYSSES -- LeRoy "Bud" Warner, 66, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born Oct. 4, 1934, to George Clifford and Thelma Margaret (Dyck) Warner in Syracuse.

He married Betty Buhrer Jan. 25, 1953, in Syracuse. She survives.

He was a lifetime resident of the Ulysses area, and moved from Menno Community to Ulysses in 1969.

He was a farmer and worked at LNR Fertilizer and EFD Freight. He also did custom cutting and helped other area farmers during harvest.

He was a member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses.

Other survivors include one son, Doug Warner and wife, Ann, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Rita Gee and husband, Tony, Ulysses, and Judy Dieker and husband, Eddie, Iola; one brother, Garry Warner and wife, Shirley, Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, Pat Scott and husband, Bill, Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Justin and Jodi Gee, Mark Warner and wife, Laura, Lori and Paul Warner, and Erica and Tyler Dieker; four great-grandchildren, Bradley Warner, Nicholas Warner, Brianna Edwards, and Alexandria Warner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Dean Warner; and one sister, Carol Nadine Warner.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

The family suggests memorials to either the Grant County Museum or to the American Diabetes Association, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

G. EUGENE SAGER

SCOTT CITY -- G. Eugene Sager, 78, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born April 26, 1923, to Jess D. and Lillian C. (Huston) Sager in Scott City.

He married Shirley I. Lundblade Sept. 20, 1955, in Garden City. She died July 16, 1999, in Scott City.

He was a lifetime resident of Scott City.

He was employed by Weishaar Drilling for over 43 years and then was the owner and operator of Sager Pump Service.

Other survivors include two sons, Darrell Sager, Liberal, and Charles Sager, Scott City; one daughter, Susie Heslop, Scott City; one brother, Lester Sager, Jetmore; and six grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Scott City with the Rev. John Warring presiding.

Burial will be at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.

Memorials are suggested to Scott County Hospital, Home Health, in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 552, Scott City, KS 67871.

QUENTIN C. GROVES

AUSTIN, Texas -- Quentin Charles Grove, 35, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, near his home in Austin.

He was born Oct. 10, 1965. He was adopted at the age of seven months by Carlyle and Esther Groves of Newton, Texas.

He was home schooled during first and second grades in Bo, Sierra Leone, West Africa, while his parents were involved in literacy work there.

He then attended public school in Turpin, Okla., where he was a member of the district championship football team.

He attended Bethel College in North Newton, North Texas State College in Denton, Texas, Richland College in Dallas and Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, where he finished an associate's degree in electronic technology.

He tested software for Dell in Austin and later became a senior consultant at Eloyalty Corporation, where he designed, developed and tested Java programs. He also worked for Eloyalty clients in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Baltimore.

Survivors include his mother of North Newton; one sister, Debra Groves, Austin; and one brother, Nathan Groves and wife, Devasia, rural Liberal; two nephews, Brent and Arthur Groves, both of Liberal; and one niece, Katherine, Liberal.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1991.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Turpin Mennonite Church in rural Turpin.

Cremation has already taken place. Inurnment will be at the church cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to either Austin Community College or Doctor Without Borders, both in care of All Faiths Funeral Service, 8507 N. IH-35, Austin, TX 78753.
