GEORGE W. DENT

George Wayne Dent, 83, died Oct. 16, 2001, at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Dec. 30, 1917, to William T. and Exar (Dodson) Dent in Kemp, Texas.

He married Mildred Madeline Graham May 24, 1940, in Murchison, Texas. She survives.

He and his wife lived in Sherman, Texas from 1940 until 2001, when they moved to Liberal to be near family.

He worked for Anderson Clayton Foods for 45 years. He retired in 1987.

His hobbies included fishing and spending time outdoors.

He was a long-time member of the Sherman Country Club.

He served as a deacon for 35 years at the Parkview Church of Christ in Sherman.

Other survivors include one son, Richard Dent and wife, Sharon, Liberal; one sister, Inez Berge, Rudyard, Mont.; three grandchildren, Heather Gould and husband, Ron, Mesquite, Texas, Holly McCarter and husband, Troy, Liberal, and Ryan Dent, Norman, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Elijah McCarter and Madison Gould; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Parkview Church of Christ, with Tim Tarbet of Parkview Church of Christ, and Don Tarbet of Denison presiding.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Old Landmarks Radio Bible Hour, P.O. Box 1032, Liberal, KS 67901, or the Parkview Church of Christ Building and Grounds Fund, Sherman, TX 75090.

BRYAN A. WHITE

Bryan A. "Skinny" White, 94, Liberal, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 1, 1906, to Alfred J. and Fannie V. (Bogart) White in Indian Territory, now Lenapah, Okla.

He married Mildred M.R. Cartwright Dec. 20, 1941, in Turpin, Okla. She died Dec. 29, 1990.

He was a lifelong rancher, cattleman and cowboy. He lived and ranched the White Ranch for more than 90 years.

During the Depression, he lived and worked in Colorado and California for several years.

He was a member of the IOOF and the Past Noble Grand.

He attended the South Church of God in Liberal.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and dancing.

Survivors include two sons, John Branstine and Marvin Branstine and wife, Ardis, all of Liberal; one daughter, Carol McDaniel and husband, Jerry, Liberal; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with Jim Garcia, Christopher McDaniel and Matthew Branstine presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Thursday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to Feed the Children, or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Girls Town, in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.

BARBARA J. RUSSELL

ULYSSES -- Barbara Jean Russell, 76, Ulysses, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born June 22, 1925, to Eugene and Lillian (Hartwig) Leabo in Chanute.

She married Edward Frances "Ned" Russell in 1945 in Lake City, Fla. He died Sept. 25, 1986.

She had been a resident of Ulysses since 1949.

She was a homemaker.

She was a past member of Ulysses Junior Civic, and she was a founding member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Ulysses.

Her hobbies included playing bridge.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Russell, Seattle, Brett Russell, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Seth Russell, Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Melanie Kemp, Los Gatos, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ulysses with the Revs. Dennis Zimmerman and Floyd Daharsh presiding.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's Episcopal Church in Ulysses in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

BIRDIE M. JAMES

BRAWLEY, Calif. -- Birdie M. James, 80, Brawley, formerly of Liberal, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at El Cajon, Calif.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

MINDY S. KERBOW

Mindy S. Kerbow, 26, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at her home in Liberal.

She was born May 30, 1975, to Gary and Linda F. (Blue) Judd in Morrison, Ill.

She married James K. Kerbow June 5, 1999, in Liberal. He survives.

She moved to Liberal in 1987 and attended Liberal High School.

For the past five years, she was employed as a security officer for Silverhawk Security in Liberal.

Other survivors include one son, David Allen Smallridge, Liberal; one daughter, Connie Lee Smallridge, Liberal; her father and his companion, Wilma Smallridge, Liberal; twin brothers, Tim Judd, Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Tom Judd, Liberal; and grandmother, Dorothea Blue, Galesburg, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Chapel in Liberal.

Cremation has already taken place.

Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLENE MCBRIDE

AUSTIN, Texas -- Charlene McBride, 68, Austin, formerly of Liberal, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Cyprus Fairbanks Medical Center in Houston.

She was born Aug. 7, 1933, to Clarence Nelson and Hazel Irene (Povenmire) Cokeley in Gridley.

She graduated from Palco High School and was class president.

She had lived in Liberal for 20 years and was employed as a bookkeeper at WesKan Oil.

She moved to Austin and was an accountant for American Realty. She retired in the spring of 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Thompson and wife, Tonya, Siloam Springs, Ark., and Terry Cokeley and wife, DeeAnn, Turpin, Okla.; four daughters, Sheryl Hickey and husband, Pat, and Cindy Osborn and husband, Frank, all of Houston, Kim Gaylord, Decatur, Ark., and Janet Fowler, Liberal; two brothers, Clarence "Nut" Cokeley, Liberal, and Ron Cokeley, California; two sisters, Ila Bathazar, Palco, and JoAnn Phillips, Waukeney; and 14 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glenn Cokeley and Russell Cokeley; and one sister, Retha Rabbie.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

RUDOLFO DURAN

Rudolfo "Rudy" Duran, 22, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

MARIE E. GERBER

FOWLER -- Marie E. Gerber, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at the Fowler Nursing Home in Fowler.

She was born Jan. 21, 1920, to Fredrick E. and Josephine Mary (Hessman) Fox in Spearville.

She married Clemens Joseph Gerber Oct. 29, 1947, in Fowler. He died Jan. 14, 1987.

She had been a longtime resident of Meade County.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade.

Survivors include two sons, Steven C. Gerber, Atlanta, Ga., and Stanley J. Gerber, Tacoma, Wash.; one daughter, Susan Kay Gerber, Van Nuys, Calif.; one sister, Mildred Finkeldei, Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elizabeth Shafer.

Holy mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade with the Father Zeno Ye Swe presiding.

Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler.

Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.
