MARGARET H. REIMER

MEADE -- Margaret H. Reimer, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Meridian Nursing Home in Wichita.

She was born Sept. 7, 1911, to Henry R. and Sarah S. (Friesen) Classen in rural Meade.

She married Henry B. Reimer April 5, 1985, in Meade. He died April 4, 1987.

She had been a resident of Meade for 75 years.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade.

Survivors include one step-son, Melvin Reimer and wife, Juanita, Inman; three brothers, Frank Classen, Meade, Sam Classen, Newton, and Albert Classen, Wichita; and three sisters, Helen Friesen, Denver, Bertha Zielke, Fowler, and Elsie Goertzen, Henderson, Neb.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bernhard Classen, Henry Classen, Isaac Classen and Herman Classen; and two sisters, Kathrine Reimer and Agnes.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade with the Revs. Wayne Wilson and Elmer Ensz presiding.

Burial will be at the Emmanuel Mennonite Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Meade.

Friends may call until 7 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the Back to the Bible Broadcast in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

WINFRED C. NICHOLAS

Johnson -- Winfred C. Nicholas, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 14, 1914, to Z.B. and Julia May (Leiss) Nicholas in Stafford County.

He married Marcile Cross June 12, 1940, in Johnson. She survives.

He had been a resident of Stanton County since 1918. He was a farmer.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson.

Other survivors include one son, Wendell Nicholas and wife, Nancy, Johnson; three daughters, Sharon Frank and husband, James, Great Bend, Connie Harder and husband, Cliff, Moscow, Russia, and Tammy Bray and husband, Doug, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Ivan Nicholas, Johnson; two sisters, Vada Mercer, Bullhead City, Ariz., and Gwen Pentland, Phoenix; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurel Nicholas; one brother, Herman Nicholas; and one sister, Juanita Neely.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding.

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

The family suggests memorials to either the First United Methodist Church or the Stanton County Scholarship Foundation, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

CLARK B. MITCHELL JR.

GARDEN CITY -- Clark B. Mitchell Jr., 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 27, 1933, to Clark B. and Zalla Belle (Satterlee) Mitchell in Paullina, Iowa.

He married Joyce Maschino Stegman June 22, 1991, in Liberal. She survives.

After graduating high school in Paullina, he moved to Hugoton, where he and his father went to work for Northern Natural Gas Company. In 1986, after 34 years with Northern, he retired as field operations director.

He then moved to Garden City, where he worked for American Electric and then started his own business, Mitchell Warehouse Service.

He was a member of the Bible Christian Church in Garden City.

His hobbies included visiting church members and studying genealogy.

Other survivors include two sons, Clark "Burt" Mitchell III, Great Bend, and Steven Mitchell, Liberal; one daughter, Jane Zahtner, Russell; one step-son, Michael Stegman, Liberal; two step-daughters, Teresa Gorton, St. George, and Michelle Mahaffey, Perry, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joel Mitchell, one sister, Marilyn, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bible Christian Church in Garden City with the Pastors Jeff Starkey and Mark Ingmire presiding.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Clark Mitchell Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main, Garden City, KS 67846.

WILLIAM R. SINGLEY

RATON, N.M. -- William R. "Bill" Singley, 77, father of Hugoton resident Mary Frances Goeble, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Raton.

He was born July 2, 1924, to Homer and Frances (Wood) Singley in Gizma.

He married Marie V. (Jones) Singley. She survives.

He was a United States veteran, having served during World War II with the 1st Division of Carlson Raiders of the United States Marine Corps.

He was a resident of Cimarron, N.M.

Other survivors include four daughters, Mary Frances Goeble, Hugoton, Andre Catlin and Judy Zordel, both of Albuquerque, N.M., and Reesa Singley, Broomfield, Colo.; one step-son, Dwain Romero and wife, Nancy, Cimarron; two sisters, Betty Lee, Plains, and Jody Pivonka of Kansas; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Cimarron, with Dennis Schneider presiding.

Services are under the direction of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home in Raton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Les Davis Memorial, VFW Post No. 1139, P.O. Box 175, Cimarron, N.M. 87714.

FRANK W. JANTZ

MONTEZUMA -- Frank Walter Jantz, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at his home in Montezuma.

He was born April 17, 1912, to Amos and Adena (Kahn) Jantz in Chickasha, Okla.

He married Eva Evangeline Schmidt July 22, 1934, in Halstead. She survives.

He worked for the railroad as a railroad engineer.

Other survivors include six sons, Clifford Jantz and wife, Shirley, Couer-de-Alene, Idaho, Stanley Jantz and wife, Violet, Prairie, Miss., Benjamin Jantz and wife, Patricia, Detroit, Texas, Kirby Jantz and wife, Cheryl, Wichita, Raymond Jantz, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Jeffrey Jantz and wife, Geri, Yukon, Okla.; two daughters, Evangeline Eck, Edmond, Okla., and Mary Ellen Bishop and husband, Robert, Aguila, Ariz.; four brothers, Martin Jantz and wife, Lucille, Halstead, Paul Jantz and wife, Joy, Oakdale, La., Robert Jantz and wife, Geraldine, Lake Charles, La., and Eugene Jantz and wife Mary Lou, DeRidder, La.; one sister, Thelma Koehn and husband, Virgil, Leland, Miss.; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Gladys Carol Weibe; two brothers, Cecil Jantz, and Lawrence Jantz, and one sister, Helen Smith.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Homeland Mennonite Church in Montezuma with the Ministers Don Koehn, Sherrill Esau and Lyndon Toews presiding.

Burial will be at Homeland Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

CARL ROBERT KEMPER

Carl Robert Kemper passed away in The Woodlands, Texas, on Jan. 12, 2002. He leaves to celebrate his memory his loving wife, Rhonda; son Tyler, 16, and daughter Brandi, 12; his brother Donnie, wife Caroline and son James, and his many friends.

Carl was born in Liberal on Feb. 17, 1963, to J.C. and Darlene Parker Kemper. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1981. After he and Rhonda married in 1984, they moved to Colorado Springs, where he worked as a stockbroker. Upon receiving his pilot's license in 1989, he worked as a flight instructor for PC Flyers and Arnautical in Denver, Colo. In 1995, Carl joined Western Pacific Airlines as a pilot, flight instructor and check-airman until February 1998, when he began flying for Continental Express Airlines.

Within a year, Carl was a check-airman on the EMB-145 Express Jet and later became an FAA approved Designated Examiner. He also served the instructor corps as an ALPA union representative, recently negotiating their first contract.

He and Rhonda lived in Colorado for 12 years, moving to The Woodlands, Texas, in 1998, when he joined Continental Airlines. Carl enjoyed travel, golf, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 3rd and Grant, Liberal, Kansas 67901. Burial will be held at Liberal Cemetery. Calling time will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been set up on behalf of Rhonda, Tyler and Brandi. Contributions can be made to the Kemper Memorial Fund to defray initial and long-term costs for Rhonda and the children. Checks should be made out to Rhonda Kemper and may be mailed to the Continental Federal Credit Union, Acct. No. 123640147, 500 Jefferson, Suite 250, Houston, TX 77205.

Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ELMER F. SCHAWO

Elmer F. Schawo, 83, Liberal, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

MAURICE B. SMITH

HUTCHINSON -- Maurice Boyd Smith, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born June 9, 1912, to Homer and Clara May (Hill) Smith in Turpin, Okla.

He married Kathryn Rachel Cain March 5, 1935, in Albuquerque, N.M. She died July 5, 2000.

He had been a long-time resident of Hutchinson.

He was a graduate of Hutchinson Community College.

He owned and operated the former Blackburn Cleaners in Hutchinson before retirement.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.

He also played in several local bands, and was a long-time member of the Hutchinson Municipal Band, with whom he played in 50 Christmas parades.

He was also a member of the Wichita Musician's Association.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include one son, Warren D. Smith, south Hutchinson; two brothers, Adair Smith, Grove, Okla., and H.L. Smith, Norman, Okla.; one sister, Helene Jayroe, Laverne, Okla.; and two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Smith; one sister, Honore Mitchell; and one grandson, Larry Smith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Pastor James C. Francis presiding.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson.

Memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson City Municipal Band in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
