HOWARD H. REUKAUF

LARNED -- Howard H. Reukauf, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Long Term Care in Larned.

He was born May 14, 1920, to Fred and Johanna (Stradtman) Reukauf in Cheektowata, N.Y.

He married Wanda K. Moore Nov. 15, 1945, in Topeka. She died Jan. 21, 2002.

He had been a resident of Larned since 1963, and he was a retired installation manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

He was a member of First Christian Church and Jack Kreiger Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Larned.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one son, Greg Reukauf, Liberal; one daughter, Kathy Mikols, Wichita; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were Feb. 25, 2002, at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren presiding.

Burial was at Larned Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

EARL A. HALFMAN

Earl A. Halfman, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 at his home in Liberal.

He was born Nov. 7, 1910, to August and Lydia (Miller) Halfman in Greeley County.

He married Ella M. Bivins Dec. 17, 1933, in Tribune. She survives.

He attended school in Greeley County.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. After military service he owned and managed the movie theatres in Tribune and McDonald for many years.

He moved to Liberal in 1953 from Tribune.

He received his real estate and brokers license and sold real estate for a local firm for 20 years, before retiring in 1973.

His hobbies included purchasing houses and remodeling them.

He was the caregiver for his wife the past several years.

Other survivors include one daughter, Donna Pellican and husband, Steven, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Nellie May Mudie-Sohl, Larned; two half-sisters, Florene Snowbarger, Montana, and Joan Halfman, Amarillo, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the SW Kansas Humane Society in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 North Lincoln Ave. Liberal, KS 67901.

CLIFFORD L. PIEHLER

Clifford LeRoy Piehler, 56, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home in Liberal.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

ROY MARRS

FOWLER -- Roy Marrs, 78, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.

He was born June 23, 1923, to Ralph Lee and Rosa M. (McGuire) Marrs in Fowler.

He married Frances Trent Nov. 27, 1947, in Dodge City. She survives.

He graduated from Fowler High School and had been a lifetime resident of Fowler.

He was a farmer and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fowler.

He was a former member of the Odd Fellows in Fowler and of the Dodge City Sportsman's Club.

Other survivors include two sons, Duke Marrs, Fowler, and Doug Marrs, Hays; one daughter, Garalee "Lee" Roberts, Yukon, Okla.; three sisters, Rosetta Thompson, Plains, and Ruby Whatley and Mazo Eccleston, both of Fowler; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Forrest LeeRoy Marrs; and two brothers, Marion Marrs and Franklin Marrs.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Fowler with the Rev. Roland Wolf presiding.

Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

ANNA M. GRAVES

CHILDRESS -- Anna Mae Graves, 86, Childress, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in Childress.

She was born March 13, 1915, to Robert Houston and Laversia (Alexander) Graves in Hawley, Texas.

She was a restaurant cook in Childress.

She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Council at the First Assembly of God in Childress.

She cared for her brothers and sisters and for many children in the neighborhood.

Survivors include one sister, Helen Birdsong, Fritch, Texas, formerly of Liberal; one brother, Calvin Graves, Childress; nine nephews; eight nieces; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God in Childress with the Rev. Clyde Fulfer presiding and the Rev. David Nuckels assisting.

Burial will be at Childress Cemetery in Childress.

Johnson Funeral Home in Childress is in charge of arrangements.

CATHY MICHAEL

MOSCOW -- Cathy Michael, 58, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

RUTH F. THIELEN

Ruth F. Thielen, 85, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born May 4, 1916, to Israel Clayton and Leona Mae (Trapp) Tennis.

She married Arthur M. Thielen Jan. 1, 1940. He died Aug. 1, 1980.

She attended Turkey Creek Country School, Chanute Junior High, and graduated from Chanute High School in 1935.

She lived in Wichita and Haven for two years before moving to Satanta in 1947, where she worked as a postal clerk for 26 years, retiring in Sept. 1980.

She was involved with community activities including the Cloverleaf 4-H Club, Satanta Chamber of Commerce, Happy Agers Center, Satanta grade school PTA, and the Do-Si-Do Dance Club.

She moved to Liberal in May 1993.

Her hobbies included sewing, piecing quilts, fancy work and spending time with family.

She was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Liberal.

She was a former member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Satanta.

She was a member of the Kansas and National Association of Retired Federal Employees,

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Anne Theis and husband, David, Shawnee, and Martha Jane Schlenker and husband, Duane, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Merle Tennis, Chanute, and Dean Tennis, Meade; one sister, Florence Carlburg, Wichita; one son-in-law, William Barger and wife, Loreta, Derby; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Judith Susan Barger; two brothers; and one sister.

A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.

A vigil service will be held Wednesday evening at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute with the Father Thomas Scaletty presiding.

Burial will be at the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chanute.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to either the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chanute or the St. Anthony's Catholic Church Building Fund, both in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.

GERALD C. SMITH

HUGOTON -- Gerald Calvin Smith, 60, a former Hugoton resident, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, Calf.

He was born July 23, 1941, to Calvin Gilbert and Fern (Moon) Smith in Hugoton.

He graduated from the Hugoton High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Conflict. He moved to California following his discharge from the service.

He worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, first as a carrier and then as a registered cage clerk in Compton, Calif.

His hobbies included football, baseball and basketball.

Survivors include three sisters, Lola Mae Morris, Liberal, and Eloise Owens and Donna Hopkins, both of Wichita; one God-son, Jesse Martinez, Lynwood, Calif.; and a numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Faith Chapel Church of God In Christ in Hugoton, with the Elder Lawrence Johnson presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the Faith Chapel Church of God In Christ in Hugoton, care of Paul's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 421, Hugoton, KS 67951.
