ENID I. SHUFELBERGER
MENA, Ark. -- Enid Ione Shufelberger, 91, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Mena.
She was born May 2, 1910, to James G. and Gerty Viola (Swink) Beard in Seward County.
She married Lloyd Russell Shufelberger in February 1930. He preceded her in death.
She was an aircraft worked at Beach Aircraft. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Order of Easter Star, Gold Star Windows of America and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Shufelberger, Hatfield, Ark.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Carl David Shufelberger; one brother, Dale Beard; and one sister, Madge Jones.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Six-Mile Cemetery
in Hatfield.

KAREN D. HAYZLETT
ELKHART Karen D. Hayzlett, 61, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 4, 1940, to Sherman Wayne and Martha Ione (Morgan) Lewis in Eureka.
She married Julius "Dean" Hayzlett Dec. 2, 1977, in Syracuse. He survives.
She had been a resident of Elkhart the past three years.
She attended school in Greenwood County, and graduated in 1958 from Hamilton High School. She attended Wichita Business College.
She had worked at the Hamilton County Rest Home for several years.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Syracuse.
Other survivors include two sons, Bill McManess, Dodge City, and John McManess, Syracuse; four daughters, Christy Kemp, Dexter, Kim Schmidt, Syracuse, Carla Beasley, and Tish Nielsen, Denver; five step-children, Debbie Blair, Liberal, Lora Schiffelbein, Topeka, Kenny Hayzlett, Wichita, Judy Nielsen, Syracuse, and Rodney Hayzlett, Joplin, Mo.; five brothers, Keith Lewis, Rolla, Kenneth Lewis, Toronto, Jack Lewis, Wichita, Jerry Lewis, Enid, Okla., and Larry Lewis, Alva, Okla.; three sisters, Katherine Condee, Suffolk, Va., Sylvia Billings, Wilber, Neb., and Rachael Stewart, Friend; 27 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents,; two brothers, Donald Lewis and Elvin Lewis; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Rolla Methodist Church.
Burial will be at Richfield Cemetery
in Richfield.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Harrell Funeral Home in Elkhart.

TRACY MATTHEWS
SATANTA -- Tracy Matthews, 35, Satanta, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.
He was born Aug. 13, 1966, to Roosevelt Alvin Bickham Jr. and Mable Lee Matthews in New Orleans.
He married Mandy Koelzer Oct. 19, 2000, in Garden City. She survives.
He moved from Garden City to Satanta in 1998.
He worked for the Cimarron Valley Railroad in Satanta.
His hobbies included playing video games, listening to music, lifting weights, playing horseshoes, playing basketball and working and spending time with his brother on the job.
Other survivors include one son, Gregory Matthews, New Orleans; two step-sons, Jonathan Penner and Jordan Penner, both of Satanta; his mother, of New Orleans; two brothers, Cleveland Matthews, New Orleans, and Derrick Matthews and wife, Tonya, Satanta; grandmother, Louise Banks, New Orleans; special aunt, Barbara Matthews; nephews; nieces; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, Harold Banks; and grandmother, Bertha Matthews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Satanta with the Pastor Ray Tweed presiding.
Burial will be at Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

JOE S. JOHNSON
LAMAR, Colo. -- Joe S. Johnson, 76, formerly of Lamar, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his home in Hasty, Colo.
He was born Jan. 19, 1926, to Tom and Thelma L. Johnson in Poteet, Texas.
He lived in Liberal and did electrical wiring at Tradewinds until leaving the area in 1969.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Dolores Johnson, of the home; three sons, James A. Coffman and wife, Darlene, and Ed Johnson and wife, Deb, all of Arriba, Colo., and Montie Coffman and wife, Paula, Hasty; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Linda Coffman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar with the President Andy Rose presiding.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery
in Lamar.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar.

SAM I. UNRUH
COPELAND -- Sam I. Unruh, 101, Montezuma, formerly of Copeland, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma where he had been a resident.
He was born June 13, 1900, to Isaac P. and Lena (Jantz) Unruh in Marion County.
He married Agnes Smith March 18, 1923, in Montezuma. She died Feb. 8, 2002.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Copeland.
Survivors include four sons, Cecil Unruh, Louis Unruh and wife, Ruby, Eugene Unruh and wife, Janice, and Sam D. Unruh Jr. and wife, Janice, all of Copeland; seven daughters, Luella Koehn and husband, Obed, Juanita Nightengale and husband, Ervin, Scott City, Vada Unruh, Shirley Unruh, Maxine Schmidt and husband, Eldon, Jeanette Nightengale and husband, Devern, all of Copeland, and Sylvia Wedel and husband, Delton, Paris, Texas; one brother, Dewey Unruh, Versailles, Mo.; two sisters, Susanna Koehn, Montezuma, and Myrtle Koehn, Livingston, Calif.; and 35 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lois Unruh; four brothers, Lincoln Unruh, Clyde Unruh, Ezra Unruh and Harvey Unruh; two sisters, Minnie Unruh and Alda Dirks; son-in-law, Melvin Unruh; two daughter-in-laws, Elizabeth Unruh and Ruby Unruh; and nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Salem Mennonite Church in Copeland.
Burial will be at Salem Mennonite Cemetery
in Copeland.

ESTHER C. LA DUE
CINCINNATI -- Esther Carolyn Pendleton La Due, 88, a former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home in Cincinnati.
She was born Oct. 24, 1913.
She married Glenn Orthell La Due in 1934. He died in 1969.
She had been a resident of Shamrock, Texas, until 1955 when she and her family moved first to Amarillo, Texas, and then to Liberal.
She graduated from Shamrock High School at the age of 16 and attended Stephens College and Texas Women's College.
She was a seamstress.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the 20th Century Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Federated Woman's Club of Shamrock and the Liberal Woman's Club. She was also a member of the Senior Center.
She and her husband attended square dances, and she attended Friday night dances at the Senior Center for many years.
Her hobbies included playing bridge and reading.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Hood and husband, the Rev. Paul Hood, and Edna La Due, all of Cincinnati, and Glenda Beth Milavec and husband, Ron, Pittsburgh, Penn.; five grandchildren, Angelique O'Neill, Cincinnati, Phillip Dye Jr., Houston, Charlotte Dye and husband, Kelly Smith, Dallas, Pamela Milavec Stevens and husband, Jeff, Holly Springs, N.C., and Tim Milavec, Pittsburgh; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Dye and Margaret Dye, both of Houston, and Doug Stevens, Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Dye in April 1998.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. April 6 at Mt. Airy United Methodist Church in Cincinnati.
