WADE ELLIOTT

HUGOTON -- Wade Elliott, 90, Hugoton, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

DELBERT O. HOLCOMB

Delbert O. Holcomb, 76, Liberal, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born May 31, 1925, to Jesse O. and Muriel (Foster) Holcomb in Coffey, Mo.

He married Erma V. Rice April 29, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.

He graduated from high school in Coffey.

He moved to Burlington and was a baker in a cookie factory for several years.

He moved to Liberal in 1950 and was a baker at Ideal Foods for 22 years. He was a service person for Tom's Peanuts for 10 years, and later was a contract mail carrier for five years before retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington.

His hobbies included fishing and working in his gardens.

Other survivors include one son, Terry L. Holcomb and wife, Shelia, Dodge City; three daughters, Marsha Jensen and husband, Joseph, Garden City, Mo., Deline Shirota and Pamela Flores and husband, Gary, all of Liberal; four sisters, Elva Hudson, Cameron, Mo., Lucille Slinkard, Valley Center, Arlene Pash, Trenton, Mo., and Alta Shoemaker, Easton, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.

Inurnment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal at a later date.

TINEY DEE TYLER

KINGMAN -- Tiney Dee Tyler, 74, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at his home in Kingman.

He was born Nov. 28, 1927, to Cleve and Clara (Warren) Tyler in Coahoma, Texas.

He married Patricia B. Clark Jan. 21, 1963, in Tulsa, Okla. She survives.

At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan as a sergeant in the 40th Communications Squadron C. He was a telephone and telegraph lineman and received the Victory Medal in World War II and the Occupation Medal, Japan.

He worked on oil drilling rigs in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, and had also worked as a welder.

He then lived in Syracuse, Coolidge, Johnson and Ulysses and worked for numerous farmers, ranchers and cattle feeding operations.

He retired in 1990 and moved to Kingman in 1999.

His hobbies included going to rodeos, fishing, baseball, wrestling and watching sky diving.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry Don Janzen, Robert Harris Janzen and Steven Mark Janzen, all of Tulsa; three daughters, Donna Dee Johnson, Ricci Rena Janzen and Regina Lynn Mitchell, all of Tulsa; two step-daughters, Georgia Sue Elliott, Jackson, Tenn., and Lenore Kay Johnson, Denison, Texas; one brother, Lenny Lee Tyler, Bay City, Texas; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, C.T.; one sister, Dorothy; and one grandson, Micah Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Manter with the Rev. Kevin Seuser presiding.

Burial with Military Rites will follow at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church in Manter in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

ARILLA M. HALSTEAD

MEADE -- Arilla M. Halstead, 84, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.

She was born Sept. 7, 1917, to Floyd Baster and Lillie Mae (Engle) Norris in Cherokee City, Ark.

She married Cecil Hansen in 1945. He died in 1972.

She married Byron Halstead in 1974 in Guymon, Okla. He died in May 1998.

She had been a resident of Meade for 20 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Meade.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Halstead, Gardnerville, Nev.; two daughters, Janell Coleman, Archer City, Texas, nd Karen Scroggins, Houston; one sister, Lida Perkins, Archer City; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary Chapel in Meade with the Pastor Tom Elliott presiding.

Burial was at Pea Ridge Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Ark.

WADE W. ELLIOTT

HUGOTON -- Wade W. Elliott, 90, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

He was born Jan. 6, 1912, to Wilmot Franklin and Mae (Loucks) Elliott in Stevens County.

He was a lifetime resident of Stevens County and had been a resident of Morton County Care Center since August of 1998.

He married Gertrude Purcell Dec. 26, 1946, in Hutchinson. She survives.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Hugoton.

He was a charter member of the VFW in Hugoton, the Southwest Cattlemen Association, the Farm Bureau and the Southwest Kansas Royalty Owner's Association.

He was a longtime farmer and rancher of Stevens County.

Survivors also include two sisters, Doris Sandefur, Cottage Grove, Ore., and Lois Jones, Waller, Texas; one grandson, Dr. Mike Wiley and wife, Anne, Oklahoma City; two great-grandchildren, Kevin Wiley and Erin Wiley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son, Billie J. Wiley; and two brothers, Gereald Elliott and Marvin Elliott.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian Church in Hugoton, with Pastor Jeff Aenk presiding.

Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the Christian Church in Hugoton.

Memorials have been established for either the Christian Church in Hugoton, or the American Cancer Society fund in care of Paul's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

IVA I. BRICKER

ULYSSES -- Iva I. Bricker, 85, Ulysses, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

GRACIE STRICKLAND

HUGOTON -- Gracie Strickland, 72, Hugoton, died Sunday, April 24, 2002, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

LAVERN J. MADER

ULYSSES -- LaVern J. Mader, 66, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born Aug. 8, 1935, to Vernon and Mary (Konrade) Mader in Offerle.

He married Delores Ratzlaff Dec. 27, 1955, in Garden City. She survives.

He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1962. He was a welder at Ulysses Irrigation and T-L Irrigation, both in Ulysses. He retired in 1997.

He was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

His hobbies included gardening, fishing and hunting.

Other survivors include three sons, Steve Mader and Chris Mader, both of Ulysses, and Paul Mader, Austin, Texas; three daughters, Pam Ellis, Rock Springs, Wyo., Cathy Fischer, Ulysses, and Deidra Cantrell, China Springs, Texas; two brothers, Leonard Mader, Holcomb, and Robert Mader, Garden City; two sisters, Mary Ann Bennett, Holcomb, and Marylin Reese, Ulysses; 20 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tim Mader; one sister, Janet Peterson; and two grandchildren.

Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. today at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Revs. Louis Hoang and Gilbert Herman presiding.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. today at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Memorials are suggested to either the American Cancer Society or Grant County Relay for Life, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
