MARGERY M. HAGUE

WEST COVINA, Calif. ­ Margery Marie Hague, 81, died April 18, 2002, at her home in West Covina.

She was born Jan. 23, 1921, to Leonard and Mary (Wooden) Hague in rural Beaver County, Okla.

She was raised in the Turpin, Okla. area, and graduated from Meade High School. She also lived in Garden City for some time.

She attended Fort Hays State University and graduated from Southwestern University in Winfield.

She had been a pattern maker for dress retailers for 40 years.

Survivors include one sister, Darilene (Hague) Sutter, Overland Park.

Cremation and burial took place May 1 at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.

JOHN P. TRUJILLO

KISMET ­ John P. Trujillo, 57, Kismet, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal of injuries sustained in a automobile accident.

He was born June 28, 1944, in Santa Fe, N.M.

He married Darlene Velasquez in Santa Fe.

He moved to Kismet in 1990, and was employed in landscaping the past 12 years.

SUrvivors include two sons, John Trujillo Jr. and Daniel Trujillo, both of Denver; one daughter, Anna Marie Trujillo, Denver; one step-son, Michael Hanson, Grand Junction, Colo.; one step-daughter, Emily Velasquez, Salt Lake City; five sisters, Mela Lucero, Albuquerque, N.M., Jessie Valdez, Rose Mary, and Virginia Lucero, all of Santa Fe, and Mary Rivera, Kismet; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and five sisters.

Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains with the Father Zeno presiding.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.

RAYMOND L. STRICKLAND

HUGOTON ­ Raymond Lee Strickland, 75, Hugoton, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge.

He was born Dec. 5, 1926, to William Edward and Myrtle (Thompson) Strickland in Selma, Okla.

He married Gracie B. Hall Nov. 22, 1946, in Winchester, Ky. She died April 22, 2002.

He was raised by his mother's parents after her death in October of 1930.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the 77th Infantry during the occupation of Japan.

He was a long-time business owner/operator in the Hugoton area since 1958. He was in the construction business and an auctioneer for the past 15 years.

He was a member of the Hugoton Kiwanis Club, a three-time past master of the Hugoton Masonic Lodge, and an exhausted Rooster of the Hugoton JCs.

Survivors include three sons, Farrell Ray Strickland, Indianapolis, Linn Wayne Strickland and wife, Cora, and Edward Lee Strickland, all of Hugoton; one brother, Charles Edward Strickland, Victoria, Texas; four grandchildren, Stacey Lynn, Kristen Sue, Brian Edward and Ashton Nicole Strickland; and numerous other relatives.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton with Masonic and Military graveside services.

Friends may sign the registrar from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Paul's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

JOHN H. SHERER

DODGE CITY. ­ John Harvey Sherer, 86, former Kismet and Liberal resident, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

He was born Dec. 20, 1915, to Emmitt and Violet (Briggs) Sherer in Tuscarawas, Ohio.

He married Frances G. Hendricks Sept. 21, 1936, in Wheeling, W.Va. She died July 18, 1997.

He was raised in Tuscarawas and Massillon, Ohio. He moved to Mullinville and later moved to Kismet in 1945.

In 1967, he moved to Liberal. He worked for Seward County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1980.

He also farmed in the Kismet area.

He moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1986, and in 1999, he moved to Dodge City.

He was a former member of the Kismet United Methodist Church, and was a current member of the Dodge City Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, David Sherer and wife, Mucrita, Fort Worth, Jim Sherer and wife, Nancy, Dodge City, and John H. Sherer Jr. and wife, Mei-Yi, Liberal; one daughter, Kathleen Worley and husband, Steve, Waco, Texas; one brother, Glenn Sherer, Massillon; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at the Kismet United Methodist Church in Kismet with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding.

Burial was at Kismet Cemetery in Kismet.

Memorials are suggested to the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.

GUILLERMO LOPEZ

Guillermo Lopez, 51, Liberal, died Sunday, June 1, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary.

GLENN R. CALVIN

WINFIELD -- Glenn R. Calvin, 76, Winfield, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Jan. 24, 1926, to Reuel Fulton and Hildreth Marie (Ritchie) Calvin in Winfield.

He married Joyce C. Garoutte and they later divorced.

He was raised and educated in Winfield. During high school, he was drafted into the military.

In 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Steamer Bay in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

While in Winfield, he worked at Winfield Lumber Yard until 1954. He moved to Tribune and then to Syracuse. He later moved to Dodge City, where he worked for various lumber companies.

After retiring in 1992, he moved to Liberal. He returned to Winfield in 1999.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield.

He was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Winfield Masonic Lodge. In Syracuse, he was in the Lions Club, and the Rotary Club in Dodge City.

He was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program in Winfield.

His hobbies included listening to sports on the radio and taking walks.

Survivors include two sons, Van R. Calvin and wife, DeDe, Wichita, and Danny G. Calvin and wife, Rose, Sumner, Wash.; one brother, Harold Calvin and wife, Bonnie, Belle Plaine; one sister, Norma Jean McDade and husband, Jack, Winfield; six grandchildren, Trisha L. Calvin, Jeremy M. Calvin, Nathan R. Calvin, Benjamin N. Calvin, James R. Calvin and Joseph M. Calvin; and two great-granddaughters, Zoie Calvin and Desirae Calvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Winfield.

Burial will follow at Akron Cemetery north of Winfield.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m.

MARCELINO B. PAUDA SR.

ULYSSES -- Marcelino B. Pauda Sr., 77, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born June 13, 1924, to Luis and Guadalupe (Baldanado) Pauda in Clairemont, Texas.

He married Geneva Felan Oct. 28, 1949, in Cloves, N.M. She survives.

He had been a resident of Ulysses for 30 years. He was a farm laborer.

He was a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he was a choir member and played guitar.

His hobbies included singing and playing guitar for family and friends.

Other survivors include nine sons, Jesse Joe Pauda, Lubbock, Texas, Mark Pauda and wife, Elia, Louie Pauda and wife, Olga, Joe Luis Pauda, Angel Pauda and wife, Ronda, and Sammy Pauda and wife, Michelle, all of Ulysses, Robert Pauda and wife, Norma, and Albert Pauda, all of Lakin, and Bill Pauda and wife, LaRisa, Johnson; four daughters, Daminga Esquivel and husband, Homero, Geneva Ramos and husband, Tony, Irene Sosa and husband, Johnny, and Irma Pando, all of Ulysses; two brothers, George Pauda, Amarillo, Texas, and Ernest Pauda, Brownfield, Texas; three sisters, Manuela Ochoa, Happy, Texas, Lupe Davilla, Texas, and Tilde Salazar, Brownfield; 53 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Berardo Pauda; and one sister, Petra Martinez.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Hoang presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 5:30 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
