WOODROW W. ROBINSON

HOISINGTON ­ Woodrow Wilson Robinson, 83, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at CKMC St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.

He was born Sept. 10, 1918, to Ernest R. and Cora V. (Flowers) Robinson in Crowville, La.

He married Leona C. Zorn May 15, 1946, in Meadville, Miss. She survives.

He had worked for Sears and Roebuck for 27 years and as a brakeman on the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 13 years before retiring.

He was a long-time Hoisington resident before moving to Great Bend.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend.

He was also a member of the National Association Railroad Veteran Employees and was a former local and county 4-H leader in Hoisington and Barton County.

Other survivors include two daughters, Judi Drake, Great Bend, and Brenda Webb, St. Louis; one sister, Alberta Haddox, Redding, Calif.; three grandsons, Corey Webb, Scott Webb, and Jason Drake; one great-grandchild, Taylor Drake; eight step-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives in the Liberal area.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lamar Robinson, Morrell Robinson, and Whitfield Robinson; and two sisters, Mary Alice Byrd, and Donis Richardson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Hal Staats presiding.

Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery in Hoisington with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 7428 and American Legion Post No. 286.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to either the First Presbyterian Church in Hoisington, the American Heart Association or the Hoisington Ambulance Fund, all in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, KS 67544.

VENSON L. WILLIAMS

Venson L. Williams, 50, Liberal, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Nov. 12, 1951, to B.D. and Eva Mae (Bullock) Williams in Arkadelphia, Ark.

He married Vanessa Davis July 11, 1978, in Wichita. She survives.

He graduated from Peake High School in Arkadelphia.

He moved to Liberal in 1978 and worked in the oil field industry for many years.

He was a member of the Bibleway Church of God in Christ in Liberal.

His hobbies included watching sports and playing softball and baseball.

Other survivors include three sons, Nathaniel Williams and Trevor Williams, both of Wichita, and Nicholas Williams, Liberal; six daughters, Robyn Williams, Retha Williams and Natalie Williams, all of Wichita, Racquel Williams, Hope, Ark., Angela Williams, Little Rock, Ark., and Ashley Williams, Oklahoma City; his father and step-mother, Rev. B.D. and Ollie Williams, Liberal; two brothers, Bernard Williams and wife, Glenny, Arkadelphia, and Jeffery Williams and wife, Marva, Liberal; and six sisters, Brenda Williams-Evans and husband, Gary, and Karen Davis and husband, T.D., all of Tyler, Texas, Marie McKesson and husband, Alvin, Wichita, Pamela Cotledge, Dallas, and Jessie Ponder and husband, Everett, and Erica Rider, all of Liberal.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Jacob Williams.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the Bibleway Church of God in Christ in Liberal with the Bishop J.C. Gilkey Sr. presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

JOANN GOODWIN

HOUSTON -- Joann "Jody" Goodwin, 71, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at her home in Houston.

She was born May 27, 1930, to Paul and Olive Jernigan in Bethany, Okla.

She married Leslie Edward Goodwin May 7, 1950. He survives.

She attended Oklahoma State University.

Before moving to Houston, she and her family lived in Liberal and Fort Worth, Texas.

She was a homemaker, a Cub Scout leader, and an artisan.

Her hobbies included arts and crafts.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Class.

Other survivors include two sons, Steve Goodwin and wife, Kathe, Fort Worth, and Phil Goodwin and wife, Rose, Houston; one sister, Eloise Johnson, Destin, Fla.; and grandchildren, Angela Goodwin, Stephen Goodwin and Genevieve Tampus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jean Jernigan.

Memorial services were at noon Jan. 11 at First Presbyterian Church in Houston with the Rev. Asa Hunt presiding.

Private burial followed at Houston National Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main, Houston, TX, 77006.

RONALD OLSON

Ronald Olson, 49, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at his home in Liberal following a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 14, 1952, to Arthur J. and Hazel M. (Adams) Olson in Liberal.

He married Linda M. Brack June 16, 1973, in Liberal. She survives.

He graduated from Liberal High School in 1971, and earned a certificate of carpentry from Southwest Kansas Technical School.

He had worked as a welder at Tradewinds for several years, and for the past 26 years, he was employed at Northern Natural Gas Co. as a senior O&M tech.

He was involved with the Boy Scouts for many years, serving as Scout Master of Troop No. 181, and as Scout Unit Commissioner of the Cimarron Valley.

He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.

Other survivors include three sons, Brad Betts, Travis Olson and wife, Wehnoka, and Brett Olson, all of Liberal; two brothers, Jerry Olson, Liberal, and Jim Olson, Turpin, Okla.; one sister, Linda Saucedo, Moscow; and two grandsons, Ethan Olson and Austin Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kelly Jo; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Tabernacle Church in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Faith Tabernacle Church, in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

PRUDENCE L. PHIFER

HUGOTON ­ Prudence Louise Phifer, 56, Hugoton, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Dec. 12, 1945, to Earl and Alice (Jackson) Marshall in Cumberland City, Tenn.

She married John Phifer Nov. 5, 1967, in Cumberland City. He survives.

She and her husband moved to Arizona in 1967, and then in 1969 to Clarksville, Tenn. They moved to Hugoton in 1971.

She was a beautician and bookkeeper. She had worked for SRS for 12 years.

She was a member of the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton.

Her hobbies included embroidery, making handmade gifts, fishing, and visiting with her grandchildren. She also traveled to Santa Fe, N.M.

Other survivors include her mother Alice Bumpuas and husband, Howard, Dickson, Tenn; one son, Shan Phifer, Hugoton; one daughter, Shannon Smith and husband, Arron, Hugoton; one brother, Roland Marshall and wife, Shearon, Dickson; four sisters, Janice Harrison, Leavis Hudsey, and Vira Wyatt and husband, Tanner, all of Clarksville; and Zelda Bradford and husband, Bill, Mesa Ariz.; two grandchildren, Khayman Smith and Ravyn Smith; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with Minister Eric Mason presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the Lupus Foundation in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

DAVID L. ELLIS

ELKHART ­ David L. Ellis, 68, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

He was born Feb. 7, 1934, to Jesse and Ollie (Mathews) Ellis in Sallisaw, Okla.

He married Kay Gibbons July 6, 1960, in Raton, N.M. She survives.

He had been a resident of Elkhart since 1945. He was a truck driver for Morton County.

Other survivors include one son, Alan Ellis and wife, Kim, Holcomb; one daughter, Dindy Keating, Elkhart; two brothers, James Ellis, Walsh, Colo., and Leon Ellis, Elkhart; one sister, Reniece Simmons, Columbus; and five grandchildren, Kayla Ellis, Aaron Rhodes, Brittany Rhodes, Devin Ellis, and Ross Ellis.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart with the Rev. Ron Wilson presiding.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of Harrell Funeral Home, 514 Kansas Ave., Elkhart, KS 67950.
