LLOYD F. Johnson JR.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Lloyd F. Johnson Jr., 64, Findlay, formerly of Liberal, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Arcadia, Ohio.

He was born Dec. 24, 1937, to Lloyd F. Sr. and Catherine (Rukavina) Johnson in Tazewell County, Va.

He married Margaret Ann Kovach May 16, 1961. They divorced.

He moved to Liberal in 1953 and attended high school in Liberal.

He served in the National Guard and in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he received a good conduct medal.

He worked for Ideal Food Stores and the Liberal Gas Company.

He retired in 1989 from the Findlay City Fire Department as captain after 29 years of service.

He was a Second Degree member of Knights of Columbus in Findlay. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veteran Buddy Chapter No. 43 in Findlay, was a volunteer for Boy Scouts of America for more than 20 years and he received the St. George Religious Award from the Catholic Diocese of Toledo.

He volunteered for Findlay Youth Baseball for more than 15 years, and he worked for CSC Security for NCAA football, NFL, MLB and NASCAR events.

His hobbies included studying Native American culture, which afforded him and his family the opportunity to travel across the country.

Survivors include his former wife; four sons, L. "Frank" Johnson III, Phoenix, Daniel R. Johnson, Arcadia, Joseph E. Johnson, Findlay, and Kenneth Johnson, Warner Robins, Ga.; one daughter, Catherine A. Johnson, Pittsburgh; two brothers, James Lee Johnson and Kenneth George Johnson, both of Liberal; four sisters, Lucille Neese , Kathryn Ann Burdge, and Virginia Gail Gilmore, all of Liberal, and Deborah Marie Harvey, Wichita; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Rosary scripture service will be at 7 p.m. today at Coldren Crates Funeral Home in Findlay.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay with the Father Keith A. Stripe presiding.

Burial will be at New Maplewood Cemetery in North Baltimore. Miliary graveside rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. today at Coldren Crates Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to either Boy Scouts of America Camp Berry Fund, 11716, Co. Rd. 40, Findlay, OH 45840; or Bridge Hospice and Home Health, 415 College St., Findlay, OH 45840.

ILENE M. EASTON

Ilene M. Easton, 75, Liberal, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

JOSEPH P. AMERIN

Joseph P. "Joe" Amerin, 78, Liberal, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at his son's home in Liberal.

He was born Aug. 1, 1923, to Enos and Margaret (Rudolph) Amerin in Plains.

He married Katherine M. Nelson.

He attended school in Plains.

He had farmed for many years, and later he was a warehouseman for Ralston Purina Feeds for 16 years. He retired in 1985.

Survivors include one son, Joe Amerin and wife, Fonda, Liberal; one daughter, Margaret Kay Amerin, Liberal; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains with the Father Francis Stewart presiding.

Burial will be at Plains Cemetery in Plains.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

TONY MOREE

Tony Moree, 35, Liberal, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Meade Lake in Meade State Park.

He was born March 7, 1967, to Donnie M. and Diane (Birzer) Moree in Ulysses.

He married Cindy Blackwood May 31, 1986, in Satanta. She survives.

He graduated in 1985 from Satanta High School.

He had worked for the Lawrence Paper Co. as an equipment operator for two years while living in Topeka. After moving to Liberal, he earned his electrician journeyman's license, and worked for B&B Electric in Liberal for the past eight years.

His hobbies included outdoor activities, golf, hunting and fishing.

Other survivors include two sons, Kyle Moree, and Kody Moree; three daughters, Kelsi Moree, Katie Moree, and Kacie More, all of the home; his father and strep-mother, Donnie and Georgia Moree, Satanta; his mother, Diane McKinney, Lakewood, Colo.; two brothers, Daniel Moree and wife, Sue, Leavenworth, and Troy Moree and wife, Mardy, Johnson; one half-sister, Lynde Kerr and husband, Japeth, Garden City; one step-brother, Kurt Deaton and wife, Brenda, Liberal; one step-sister, Stephanie Zanghi and husband, Ardon, Satanta; and grandparents, Martin and Mary Birzer, Hutchinson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Bill Prater presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Tony Moree Memorial Children's Fund, which can be dropped off at First National Bank in Liberal, or in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

RUTH WHEELER

HUGOTON ­ Ruth Wheeler, 91, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.

She was born Dec. 12, 1910, to Solomon Cliff and Mary May (Cook) Ellis in Stevens County.

She married Clarence Horace Wheeler Aug. 19, 1931, in Dermont. He survives.

She was a graduate of Friends Bible College in Haviland.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton.

Other survivors include two sons, Lewis Wheeler and wife, Grace, and Lee Wheeler and wife, Vickie, all of Hugoton; one sister, Dorine Young, Hennepin, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Dana Ratliff, Lisa Mason, Max Wheeler, Margo Shelton, Tod Hooker, Kelly Hooker, and Mike Hooker; five great-grandchildren, Laci Ratliff, Lance Ratliff, Sharaya Mason, Paige Mason, and Allen Shelton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Ellis and Carl Ellis; three sisters, Ethel Harvey, Halsey Burgess, and Fern Burr.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 Wednesday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding.

Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal, and from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton. The family will be receiving guests from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Friends Church.

Memorials are suggested to the building fund at Bethel Friends Church in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second St., Liberal, KS 67901.

CARL W. FELLERS

HUGOTON -- Carl Wesley Fellers, 83, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.

He was born Sept. 7, 1918, to Floyd Rollin "Roll" and Mary Mable (Morris) Fellers in Kismet.

He married Ada Vivian Moore Nov. 7, 1959, in Hugoton. She died Feb. 26, 1991.

He was raised on the family farm in Kismet and graduated from Kismet High School in 1939. He attended Fort Hays State University in Hays for two years.

He served in the United States Army from 1942-46 in Italy and the European theatre.

He moved from Kismet to Hugoton in 1959. He farmed with his father and brothers in the Kismet, Moscow and Hugoton area until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member the Hugoton VFW Post No. 5391 and had served as quartermaster and commander of District 8.

His hobbies were fishing and bowling.

Survivors include one stepson, Glen McQueen and wife, Verna Kay, Hugoton; one stepdaughter, Nancy Walter, Olathe; one brother, John Rollin Fellers and wife, Betty, Hugoton; two sisters, Ruby Pearl Lewis and husband, Earl "Grinnie," Liberal, and Mary Elizabeth Lewis, Kismet; three grandchildren, Debra Brandiff and husband, John, Blue Springs, Mo., Gay Carlson and husband, Dan, Smolan, and Chad Walter and wife, Sharmane, Albany, Ore.; and four great-grandchildren, Nikki Driscoll, Caitlin Carlson and Alyssa Carlson, all of Smolan; and Chad Mason Walter II, Albany, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Lloyd Fellers, Archie Paul Fellers, Theodore "Ted" Leroy Fellers, William Andrew "Bill" Fellers, Floyd Chester Fellers, Glen Morris Fellers, and Leslie Bernard Fellers, who died as an infant; and one sister, Ellen Iona "Onie" Fellers Miller-Parnell.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery with full miliary honors conducted by Fort Riley Military.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.

The family will gather for lunch at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Hugoton VFW Post No. 5391 in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home and Monuments, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.

FRANKLIN D. SEWELL

ULYSSES -- Franklin D. Sewell, 64, of Ulysses, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born March 15, 1938, to John Franklin and Mary Lillian (Hood) Sewell in Peoria, Ariz.

He married Patricia Burrows Dec. 18, 1956, in Hugoton. She survives.

A Ulysses resident since 1961, he was employed by City Service and Williams' Natural Gas, Ulysses, until he retired in 1994.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Ulysses.

His hobbies included traveling, camping and watching the stock market.

Other survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Sewell and fiancee, Dawn Osborn, Houston, and Troy Dean Sewell and wife, Roxanne, Olathe; two daughters, Beverly Ann Metcalf, Caldwell, and Peggy Suzanne Lamberson and husband, Dave, Garden City; four brothers, Jarrel Sewell and wife, Shirley, Kingwood, Texas, Melvin Sewell and wife, Sandy, Tonganoxie, Gary Sewell and wife, Susan, Joplin, Mo., and Maurice Sewell and wife, Pat, Grove, Okla.; two sisters, Donna Lyles, Wichita, and Sharon Johnson and husband, Harrold, Pitsburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Verlin Sewell; one daughter, Theresa Munkres; and one son-in-law, Clay Metcalf.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in with the Minister Warren Baldwin presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
