CONSEPCION GARCIA

COPELAND -- Consepcion Garcia, 54, Copeland, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

She was born Jan. 1, 1948, to Manuel and Guadalupe (Marquez) Garcia in Chihuahua, Mexico.

She moved to Copeland to be near her family.

Survivors include her mother, of Copeland; five brothers, Jesus Garcia, Spearman, Texas, Mario Garcia, Chihuahua, Cruz Garcia, Columbus, N.M., Guadalupe Garcia, El Mirage, Ariz., and Miguel Garcia, Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Cayetana Antillon, Albuquerque, Diva Withers, Copeland, and Lourdes Mendoza, Los Lunas, N.M.; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Juan Ramon Garcia.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Mennonite Church in rural Copeland with the Ministers Verle Yost and Sam Unruh Jr. presiding.

Burial will be at Salem Mennonite Cemetery in Copeland.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

ROBBIE W. GRIFFIN

HEMPHILL, TEXAS -- Robbie W. "Bobbie" Griffin, 102, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill, where she had been a resident.

She was born June 7, 1900, to Daniel Robert and Ida Letha (Stone) Carmichael in what was then Native American territory near Delhi, Okla.

She married Lonnie Eugene "Slim" Griffin Nov. 16, 1921, in Sayre, Okla. He died in November 1972.

For a short time, she attended what is now Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla. In July 1921, she was awarded a teacher's certificate for the second grade in Oklahoma grammar school.

The Griffin family moved to the Liberal area in 1935. They lived in Kismet and then at the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline station on the Cimarron River, located 14 miles east of Liberal. They lived there until 1950 when they moved to Liberal.

In 1976, she moved from Liberal to Hereford, Texas. In 1985, she moved to Toledo Bend, Texas, near Hemphill.

She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Robert E. Griffin, Marion T. Griffin and Darrell D. Griffin, all of Hemphill, and Shirley R. Griffin, Mesa, Ariz; one daughter, Delores E. Parker, East Wenatchee, Wash.; one brother, Danile Loys Carmichael, Friona, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rick Griffin presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal. The casket will remain closed.

BILL G. TAYLOR

CARLSBAD, N.M. -- Bill G. Taylor, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at a hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born Oct. 12, 1933, to W.H. and Pauline Taylor in Artesia, N.M.

He married Wanda Jane Howell June 24, 1956, in Adams, Okla. She survives.

He was a 1951 graduate of Jal High School and he attended Eastern New Mexico University. He served in the Korean Conflict as an Army sergeant in the 76th Engineering Unit.

He returned to Carlsbad where he worked as a carpenter. He worked in construction as a pipefitter for many years.

From 1961 to 1976, he farmed between Satanta and Sublette. In 1976, he became an independent well driller in Carlsbad. Most recently, he operated a small oil/water-disposal lease.

He was a member of Ranch Acres Baptist Church, having served as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and music leader.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, visiting with friends and family, poetry, going to yard sales, and playing games, especially Forty-two and Dogfight.

Other survivors include two sons, Harvey Taylor and Billy Taylor and wife, Rosy, all of Carlsbad; three daughters, Carolyn Taylor, Carlsbad, Marilyn Taylor, Artesia N.M.; and Kathy Smith and husband, Steve, Portales, N.M.; three grandsons, Jeremy Smith and Timothy Smith, both of Portales, and Michael Taylor, Carlsbad; four brothers, Delbert Taylor and wife, Ramona, Farmington, N.M., Jack Taylor and Zach Taylor and wife, Joann, all of Carlsbad, Tillman Taylor and wife, Carol, Monroe, Mich.; three sisters, Della Laman and husband, Jack, Carlsbad, Stacy Freeman and husband, Matt, Aspermont, Texas, and Tracy Richardson and husband, Renee, Thibodaux, La.; one brother-in-law, Joe Templeton, Carlsbad; five aunts and uncles, Kewpie Duncan, Aspermont, Tillman Taylor and wife, Belle, Otis, N.M., Ned Taylor, Cour D-Alene, Idaho, Ernestine Uhlmeyer, Porterville, Calif., and Alynee Becton, Grove Hill, Ala.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Terri Joyce Templeton in 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Ranch Acres Baptist Church in Carlsbad with the Brothers Mike Jowers, Charles Stackhouse, Steve Smith and Dean McAlister presiding.

Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.

Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DAMON A. HUBBARD

HUGOTON -- Damon A. Hubbard, 69, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Denver, Colo.

He was born Jan. 5, 1933 to Byron and Helen (Dies) Hubbard in Hugoton.

He married Linda Gomez March 13, 1965, in Lakewood, Colo. She survives.

He was a resident of Laramie, Wyo.

He was a newspaper editor, publisher and printer. He was a dance instructor for 10 years.

He was a member of the Eagles, a lifetime member of NRA and Rotary Club.

Other survivors include one son, Drais Hubbard, of the home; one daughter, Charta Hubbard, of the home; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton with the Minister Jeff Aenk presiding.

Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton is in charge of arrangements.

CLARENCE H. WHEELER

HUGOTON --Clarence Henry Wheeler, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born Feb. 4, 1909, to Horace and Viola (Smith) Wheeler in Stevens County.

He married Ruth Ellis Aug. 9, 1931, in Dermott. She died July 6, 2002.

He had been a long-time resident of Stevens County.

He was educated at Haviland Grade School and Goodluck School in rural Hugoton.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, where he was the treasurer for many years. He was also on the Board of Directors at Friends University.

Survivors include two sons, Lewis Wheeler and wife, Grace, Hugoton, and Lee Wheeler and wife, Vickie, Hugoton; one brother, Floyd Wheeler, Pratt; one sister, Myrtle Kinser, Haviland; seven grandchildren, Dana Ratliff, Lisa Mason, Max Wheeler, Margo Shelton, Tod Hooker, Kelly Hooker, and Mike Hooker; and five great-grandchildren, Laci Ratliff, Lance Ratliff, Sharaya Mason, Paige Mason and Allen Shelton.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leslie and Harold; and one sister, Gertrude Bushwieler.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with the Pastor Eric Mason presiding.

Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal, and from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, with family present to greet friends at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Friends Church Building Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.

VERNON D. BERRY

COLBY -- Vernon D. Berry, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge.

He was born Dec. 28, 1924, to Bertrine and Florence Hilda (Balls) Berry in WaKeeney.

He lived in the Winona area most of his adult life.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Colby.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Smith, Liberal; one sister, Florence Schertz, Winona; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Berry. She died Feb. 16, 1997.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Harrison Chapel in Colby with the Minister Jay Kelley presiding.

Burial will be at Hawkeye Cemetery north of Rexford.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge in care of Harrison Chapel, 190 S. Franklin, Colby, KS 67701.

ELIZABETHANN MCGINLEY

SALT LAKE CITY -- Elizabethann Hoelscher McGinley, 60, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Salt Lake City.

She was born Nov. 13, 1941, to Arnold and Elizabeth (Everett) Hoelscher.

Survivors include one son, Jon Sosa, Liberal; one daughter, Lisa Maria Hoelscher; six grandchildren, Joseph, Kaitlynn, Natiaya-Lynn, Martin, Lilith-Rose, and Jonathan; and two sisters, Jean Hoelscher Terhune and Martha Hoelscher Rigby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael McGinley.

Memorial services were Monday at 2 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel in Salt Lake City.
