HAZEL B. HUMMEL

ULYSSES -- Hazel Belle Hummel, 102, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

She was born Jan. 16, 1900, to John and Sarah Ellen (Woolard) Schamaun in Ness County.

She married Henry H. Hertel in 1916 in Hanston. He died in 1946.

She married Adam J. Hummel Jan. 12, 1955, in Jetmore. He died September 1982.

She moved from rural Burdett to Ulysses in 1994 to live with her daughter. She moved in Western Prairie Care Home Aug. 15, 2000.

She was a homemaker and worked as a cook in Sublette. She moved to Ulysses in 1948 and was head cook at the Ralsmore Cafe from 1948 to 1954.

She was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses. She was active in the catholic church at Hanston when she lived there.

Her hobbies included cooking, raising a garden and flowers, spending time with her family and caring for animals.

Survivors include one daughter, Floadene Hertel, Ulysses; and numerous other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Gladys Meier; five brothers, John, Charlie, Casper, Harry and George Schamaun; and one sister, Myrtle Merryfield.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mary Queen of Peach Catholic Church with the Father Louis Trung Dinh Hoang presiding.

Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

HAROLD L. RHODES

MONTEZUMA -- Harold Lavonn Rhodes, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

He was born March 15, 1912, to Harry Walter and Lillie Leora (Hegle) Rhodes in Tampa, Kan.

He married Mabel B. Mininger Dec. 27, 1936, in Durham. She survives.

He was a farmer and carpenter.

He was a member of Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.

Other survivors include three sons, Lyle Rhodes and wife, Mona, Montezuma, Stuart Rhodes and wife, Elaine, Scio, Ore., and Mark Rhodes and wife, Glenda, Windsor, Colo.; four daughters, Berdene Rhodes, Overland Park, Phyllis Koehn and husband, Lavern, Montezuma, Crystal Koehn, Montezuma, and Marilyn Fischer and husband, Jim, Scott City; one brother, Lowell "Shorty" Rhodes, Parsons; two sisters, Joan Madsen, Hiawatha, and Geneva Brouhard and husband, Jack, Andover; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Dale, Preston, Jack, Bob, Dean and Carroll Rhodes; three sisters, Ethel Trumble, Esther Rhodes and Floreine Jantz.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma with the Ministers Donald Koehn, Cyrus Wedel and Lyndon Toews presiding.

Burial will be at North Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to either Bethel Home Inc. or Montezuma Senior Center in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

DOROTHY E. MILLER

Dorothy E. Miller, 76, Liberal, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in Lubbock, Texas.

She was born April 26, 1926, to Rollie Steven and Ella Leona (Stubby) Fetterman in Hooker, Okla.

She married A. Marvin Waybright June 22, 1946, in Liberal. He died Oct. 4, 1957. She married Ralph D. Miller June 7, 1970, in Liberal. He died Jan. 16, 1998.

She attended Washington and McKinley schools in Liberal.

She was a nurse's aid at Epworth Hospital and worked for Penney's Cleaners.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal.

Survivors include three sons, Marvin Waybright and wife, Jonell, Liberal, Jesse Miller, Wichita, and Michael Burtch Waybright, Irving, Texas; two daughters, Tinker June Sarchet and husband, Donald, Lubbock, and Rebecca Kile and husband, Dale, Liberal; two brothers, John and Gene Fetterman, both of Amarillo, Texas; five sisters, Deloris Waybright and husband, Ervin, Lexington, Okla., Deonmalee Stonestreet, Wilmington, N.C., Dilla Faye Walker, Texas City, Texas, Dwila Mae Harden, Amarillo, and Delicia Fletcher and husband, Calvin, Ft. Worth, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donna Marie Coffman; and three brothers, Vernon "Pete" Fetterman, Walter "Red" Fetterman and William James "Bill" Fetterman.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

RONALD D. SCHULTZ

Ronald Dean Schultz, 73, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his residence in Liberal.

He was born July 27, 1929, to Phillip Edward and Mabel Ruth (Bennett) Schultz in Liberal.

He married Beverly J. Hegwer July 9, 1952, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He attended Liberal High School.

He was a resident of Liberal most of his life.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was a self-employed automotive supply salesman. He owned Ron Schultz Supply for 15 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166, Two-Tired Motorcycle Riding Club, Southwest Kansas BCA Pool League, and former member of Liberal Gun Club, all in Liberal.

Other survivors include one daughter, Sherri Dennett and husband, Donnie, Hanston; four sisters, Betty Hanna and husband, John, Jody Salley and husband, Jesse, both of Liberal, and Esther Brown and husband, Ed, and Doris House, both of Tyrone, Okla.; three grandchildren, Michael Schultz, Tony Dennett and Roman Dennett; and one great-grandson, Aden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Phillip Ray Schultz; and one sister, Reva Reffitt.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith Tabernacle in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.

Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Floris, Okla.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.

ROSIE R. SCHMIDT

MONTEZUMA -- Rosie R. Schmidt, 80, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City where she had been a resident.

She was born Dec. 27, 1921, to John and Anna (Penner) Miller in Lager Lechfeld Augsburg, Germany.

She married Ervin schmidt Aug. 4, 1940, in Montezuma. He died Oct. 1, 1971.

She moved to Montezuma from Germany on Dec. 25, 1925.

She was a homemaker. She worked for the post office in Montezuma for five years. She worked at Christian Bookhouse in Dodge City for five years.

She was a member of Morningside Community Church in Montezuma, where she taught Sunday School for 40 years without missing a Sunday. She was very active in child evangelism and children's Bible schools and camps.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Buller and husband, Vernon, Montezuma, and Mary Fast and husband, Wilbur, Seattle; one daughter-in-law, Rita Schmidt, Enid, Okla.; one brother, John Miller, Fort Pierce, Fl.; one sister, Sarah Kingston, Derby; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Fred E. Schmidt; one brother, Jacob Miller; two infant brothers; and one infant sister.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Community Church in Montezuma with the Pastor Lyn Hansen presiding.

A private burial was conducted at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to Awana Children's Program at Morningside Community Church in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

DONALD C. CRAWFORD

HUGOTON -- Donald C. Crawford, 55, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his home in Hugoton.

He was born Feb. 10, 1947, to Lloyd L. and Dorene R. (Hodges) Crawford in Garden City.

He was a farmer, a former crop duster pilot and insurance representative.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include three sons, Shannon Crawford, Bryan Crawford and Brett Crawford, all of Hugoton; grandmother, Alba Wayland, Hugoton; one brother, Kenneth Crawford, Hugoton; four grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with the Pastor Eric Mason presiding.

Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Friends Church in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
