JACOB FRICK JR.
Jacob "Jake" Frick Jr., 88, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at his home in Liberal.
He was born March 24, 1914, to Jacob and Katherine (Schuckman) Frick in Lincoln, Neb.
He married Vertrees Cole Dec. 22, 1943, in Jacksonville, Fla. She survives.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942-1945.
He was a longtime resident of Lincoln before moving to Liberal eight years ago.
He was a retired cabinet maker for Hoppe Mfg. in Lincoln.
Other survivors include one daughter, Katherine L. Harvey and husband, Stephen, Liberal; one sister, Marie Taylor, Lincoln; and two grandchildren, Cpt. Jonathan L. Harvey and wife, Rosemary, and Matthew R. Harvey.
A private family memorial service will take place.

LORI PIPER
ULYSSES -- Lori Piper, 39, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Yates, N.D.
She was born June 27, 1963, to Carolyn Sinka in Lamar, Colo.
Survivors include her mother, Carolyn Inman, Amarillo, Texas; one son, Scott Shoemaker, Ulysses; two daughters, Amanda Keaton and husband, Aaron, Ulysses, and Brandy Shoemaker, Garden City; two brothers, Bogie Foley and wife, Amber, Syracuse, and Ted Foley and wife, Heather, Spanaway, Wash.; grandmother, Rose Sinka, Johnson; two grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ian Shoemaker.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mennonite Brethren Church in Ulysses with the Pastor Nathan Gift presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dolores Louise Piper Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
JAN M. HERBINGER RUSH
GROOM, Texas -- Jan Mari Herbinger Rush, 38, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at her home in Groom.
She was born Feb. 22, 1964, to Jackie D. and Carol D. (McCormack) Herbinger in Girard.
She was a former resident of Liberal and Lamar, Mo., before moving to Groom.
Her hobbies included flower arranging and crafts.
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Jack and Laurel Herbinger, Lamar; mother and step-father, Carol McDaniel and Larry D. Wells, Liberal; one son, Dustin Harrison, Lawson, Mo.; three brothers, Tony Herbinger, Lamar, Rick Herbinger, Layfayette, Tenn., and Alan McDaniel, Liberal; and one sister, Marcy Higgins, Pratt.
Private services will be at a later date in Lamar.
Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal is in charge of local arrangements.
LOCIE FAIRCHILD
Locie Fairchild, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Oct. 1, 1906, to Obed Theodore and Nellie (David) Swearingen in Stansberry, Mo.
She married Bertram Harry Fairchild April 3, 1936, in Houston, Texas. He died Jan. 3, 1990.
She was a 1924 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Okla.
She was a resident of Liberal for the past 50 years.
She was a homemaker.
She attended First United Methodist Church and the Circle Three Church in Liberal.
Survivors include one son, B.H. "Pete" Fairchild, Jr., and wife, Patricia, Claremont, Calif.; one daughter, Marie Helen Henson and husband, Warren, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Swearingen, Fairfax, Okla.; two sisters, Dorrell Coffman, Oklahoma City, and Deannie Gilbert, Morrison, Okla.; five grandchildren, Paul Fairchild and wife, Rachael, Sarah Fairchild, Skipper Henson and wife, Tera, Heather Henson and Craig Henson; and one great-grandchild, Cole Fairchild.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal with the Rev. John Andrews presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

LEONA YOST
MONTEZUMA -- Leona Yost, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.
She was born Feb. 21, 1909, to Ben D. and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt in McPherson.
She married Gerhard N. "George" Yost Nov. 13, 1952, in Montezuma. He preceded her in death.
She moved from Las Animas, Colo., to Montezuma in 1919.
She was a nurse and homemaker. She was an assistant for Dr. Hull and Dr. V.A. Leopold for several years.
She was a member of Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.
Survivors include one step-son, Paul Yost and wife, Verbena, Montezuma; four step-daughters, Marie Nichols, Macon, Miss., Frances Schmidt and husband, Jesse, Stella Schmidt and husband, Harry, and Esther Unruh, all of Montezuma; six brothers, Elmer B. Schmidt, Jesse C. Schmidt and wife, Frances, Edwin Schmidt and wife, Dorothy, Harry Schmidt and wife, Stella, John Schmidt and Benjamin Schmidt, all of Montezuma; six sisters, Mable Koehn, Ingalls, Hannah Koehn, Luella Harms, Dessie Koehn and Elizabeth Koehn, all of Montezuma, and Irene Koehn, Victoria, Texas; 27 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma with the Ministers Charles Schmidt, Glen Yost and Norman Koehn presiding.
Burial will be at North Mennonite Cemetery
in Montezuma.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

LEON W. WEATHERBY
Leon Wade Weatherby, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.
He was born April 23, 1919, to Wade H. and Etta Jenkins Weatherby.
He married Betty Lou Jines June 26, 1949, in Liberal. She survives.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1937 and was the class valedictorian.
He was employed as a machinist at Beech Aircraft and retired as a foreman in 1985 after 34 years.
Other survivors include one daughter, Bonita Starks and husband, Ron, Nickerson; one brother, Cecil Weatherby and wife, Billie, Turpin, Okla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his caregiver, Darla Eugin, Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one son, Leon F. Weatherby.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

MILDRED C. RIGGS
EL DORADO -- Mildred C. Riggs, 98, long-time resident of El Dorado, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Liberal.
She was born Aug. 20, 1904, to Gilbert and Essie (Norris) Weed in Jackson, Ohio.
She married Carl C. Riggs in 1924 in Coats. He died in 1978.
She was a teacher and had worked as a dental assistant.
She had lived in Pretty Prairie, Plains, Hugoton, Mulvane, Coats and Whitewater.
She moved to El Dorado in 1945 and lived there until 2001, when she moved to Liberal.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in various clubs and organizations for several years, including General Federation of Woman's Club where she was the Kansas state president in 1976.
She was also an 80-year member of the Order of Eastern Star; 55-year member of the DAR, where she was state treasurer; Book Lover's Club; Quest Club; and the Dorcas Circle of the church.
Survivors include five daughters, Katheryn Riggs, Laguna Beach, Calif., Louise Skuderna and husband, John, and Norma Rose and husband, Lowell, all of Denver, Phyllis Bigler and husband, Dr. Calvin Bigler, Liberal, and Geraldine Sutyak, Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado.
Burial will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery
in El Dorado.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Eastern Star, the Mildred Riggs Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, Scholarship of the Kansas Federated Woman's Club or charities of the donor's choice.
