MABELLE B. JENKINS
RUSSELL -- Mabelle Balloun Jenkins, 95, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
She was born May 19, 1907, to George P. and Bessie (Lofstead) Britt in Wakeeney.
She married R.G. Balloun April 12, 1924, in WaKeeney. He died Dec. 4, 1953.
She married Thomas Jenkins June 4, 1956, in Russell. He died Nov. 5, 1977.
She lived much of her early life in Wakeeney, Gorham and Russell. She also lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Boulder, Colo., for several years before returning to Russell in 1990.
She was a homemaker and Avon sales representative for many years.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and VFW Auxiliary, all in Russell.
Survivors include three sons, George R. Balloun, Liberal, Robert L. Balloun, Russell, and J. Eugene Balloun, Lenexa; one daughter, Betty Boxberger, Russell; one step-daughter, Joanne Jenkins Keil, Hoisington; one sister, Darlene Baker, Norfolk, Va.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lloyd Balloun; one great-grandson, Christopher Balloun; three brothers, Ralph, Guy and Forrest Britt; and four sisters, Mae Berry, Grace Britt, Marie Houston and Arlene Britt.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell with the Rev. Carl Ellis presiding.
Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery
in Russell.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell and from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

BONNIE F. MOORE
ELKHART -- Bonnie Faye Moore, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born June 16, 1931, to Mark C. and Hanner K. (Ostermann) Waggoner in Flippin, Ark.
She married Earl L. Moore April 17, 1949, in Mountain Home, Ark. He died March 14, 1999.
She spent her early years in Flippin.
She and her husband moved from Arkansas to McPherson. They later moved to Liberal and then in 1956 to Elkhart, where she had been a resident since.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Elkhart Bible Baptist Church.
Her hobbies included taking care of her yard and shopping with family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Moore, Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Joann Quigley and Wanda Ray, both of Elkhart; one sister, Effie Nowlin, Yellville, Ark.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elkhart Bible Baptist Church in Elkhart with the Pastor Tom Alsheimer presiding.
Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

WALTER L. NORTON
PLAINS -- Walter Lee Norton, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born Nov. 28, 1932, to Noel and Opal (Baxter) Norton in Buffalo, Okla.
He married Patsy Jean Murphy April 25, 1959, in Gainsville, Texas. She survives.
He was a graduate of Buffalo High School.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. While overseas, he was a prison of war in China for approximately two years.
After his discharge, he worked at various construction sites. In 1971, he moved to Plains and was a master mechanic for John Deer in Plains.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Liberal.
Other survivors include one son, Robert Price, Hawley, Texas; one daughter, Patricia K. Burke, Houston; one brother, Robert Norton, Buffalo; one sister, Laura Wilkson, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Plains with the Rev. George Henry presiding.
Cremation has taken place.

GLENN E. GAVIN
JOPLIN, Mo. -- Glenn E. Gavin, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at his home in Joplin.
He was born Nov. 7, 1922, to Wynn and Grace Gavin in Neosho, Mo.
He married Marjorie Jane Hampton Dec. 19, 1942, in Columbus. She survives.
He served on numerous boards and committees in Joplin.
He was a 32nd degree mason and Scottish Rites Bodies. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Loma Linda Country Club Board and Joplin Chamber of Commerce. He was a board member for the Joplin Sheltered Workshops, and was president of the Joplin School Board for several terms.
He was also president of the Joplin Red Cross and directed numerous blood drives as chairman. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he served as a lay minister, elder and deacon. He was involved in the Hobbs, N.M., Chamber of Commerce and Liberal Chamber of Commerce, and was appointed to the Kansas State Highway Commission while living in Liberal.
He was actively involved in the establishment of Seward County Community College in Liberal. He was also involved in the community effort to transform Joplin Junior College into the four-year school, Missouri Southern State College.
Other survivors include three sons, Glenn E. Gavin Jr., Quebec, Canada, James W. Gavin, Joplin, and Bryan W. Gavin, Billings, Mo.; one daughter, Debra J. Deines, Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Patricia Turner and Dorothy Storm, both of Joplin; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Joplin with the Rev. Jim Pitts presiding.
Burial will be at Saginaw Cemetery
in Saginaw, Mo.

JAMES A. HENDERSON
MEADE -- James A. "Jim" Henderson, 61, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born July 20, 1941, to Arlie and Audalee (Streetman) Henderson in Snyder, Okla.
He married Lena Faye Bond Oct. 25, 1969, in Plains. She survives.
He was a graduate of Liberal High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam Conflict.
He was a resident of Plains since 1988, moving from Clinton, Okla.
He was a parts manager at Sublette Farm Equipment for 13 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Friends Church of Plains and First Church of God in Clinton.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth James Henderson, Golden City, Mo., and David Bruce Henderson, Plains; one daughter, Lena Michelle Henderson, Liberal; two brothers, Dean Henderson, Enid, Okla.; and Weldon Henderson, Cushing, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Allison, Zachery, Whitney, Kadie, Shaleena and Destiny Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bailey Henderson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Plains Friends Church with the Pastor Dan Biernacki presiding.
Burial will be at Plains Cemetery
in Plains.

TIFFANY A. BRIGGS
Tiffany Ann Briggs, 9, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at her home in Liberal.
She was born June 28, 1993, to Rod and Michelle (Rohn) Briggs in Wichita.
She had lived in Ulysses, Parsons and Garden City before moving to Liberal in July 2002.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.
Survivors include her parents, Liberal; two sisters, Amy and Stacy Briggs, of the home; grandparents, Robert and Gay Beth Briggs, Copeland, and Kenneth and Joyce Rohn, Colby; and great-grandparents, Anna Rohn and Rose Mannebach, both of Colby.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Shirley Beth Briggs; and two great-grandfathers.
Vigil services and rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
Mass of the Angeles will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary.
