HELEN A. THOMPSON

ELKHART -- Helen Arlene Thompson, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, in Wichita.

She was born Nov. 16, 1921, to Charles and Elizabeth (Combs) Orth in Richfield.

She married Roscoe Thompson Dec. 25, 1940, in Elkhart. He survives.

She attended grade school and her freshman and sophomore years of high school in Richfield. She finished and graduated from high school in Elkhart.

She was a long-time resident of Elkhart and Morton County.

In 1940, she and her husband moved to Syracuse where they operated a Conoco gas station. The following summer they returned to Elkhart where they began farming.

She completed two correspondence courses, one from Chicago Dress Design, receiving her diploma in 1955, and an art instructor course, earning her diploma in 1963.

She earned a certificate for a medical self-help training course through civil defense in 1964. She was an emergency medical technician in Elkhart.

She began working at the Elkhart Public Library in October 1967, taking over as head librarian in January 1968. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of Elkhart United Methodist Church, where she taught senior high and adult Sunday School classes for many years, Morton County Hospital Auxiliary and Womens Society of Christian Services.

In 1958, she became a Worthy Matron in the Order of Eastern Star and then district aide in 1963. She was appointed Grand Page of the Order of Eastern Star in 1964.

Her hobbies included flower gardening, embroidering quilts, painting, reading, playing piano and spending time with her friends and family.

Other survivors include three sons, Gary M. Thompson, Wichita, and Tony Lee Thompson and Mark Skyler Thompson, both of Elkhart; one daughter, Vicki Jane Noffsinger, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one brother, Jim Orth, Austin, Texas; two sisters, Doris Runkle, Albuquerque, N.M., and Lola Johnson, Colorado Springs, Colo; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elkhart United Methodist Church in Elkhart with the Pastors Jim Brackett and Ron Wilson presiding.

Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 514 Kansas Ave., Elkhart, KS 67950.

ELSIE B. WULF

GARDEN PLAIN -- Elsie B. (Hoffman) Wulf, 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Cheney.

He was born Aug. 31, 1910, to Peter Henry and Ada Weichman Hoffman in Garden Plain.

He married William Wulf Dec. 29, 1928, in Cheney. He died in 1981.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Bill Wulf and wife, Beverly, Cheney; two daughters, Donna Broyles, South Hutchinson, and Dianne Crossman and husband, Dean, Arkansas City; 15 grandchildren, Robin McCall, Salina, Bobby Broyles, Wahiawa, Hamaii, Donald Broyles, Hutchinson, Michael Broyles, Austin, Texas, Kent Wulf, Wichita, Lisa Hentzen, Maize, Jill Wulf, Ricky Wulf, Rusty Wulf and Robert Wulf, all of Cheney, Selinda Martin, Salina, Gregory Richardson, Arkansas City, Roger Crossman, Liberal, and Jason Crossman, Derby; 33 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leona Gill, Santa Rosa, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley Wulf in 1983.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Cheney with the Pastor Kenneth Kaufmann.

Burial was at St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Cheney.

Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain was in charge of arrangements.

ROSALIA B. SANCHEZ

KISMET -- Rosalia B. Sanchez, 51, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Dec. 26, 1950, to Alvino and Eva Vasquez Bejarano in Chihuahua, Mexico.

She married Salvador Quintana. He survives.

She and her family moved to Kismet in 1994.

She was a para-professional at Southwestern Heights for the past seven years.

Other survivors include three sons, Joel Quintana, Kismet, Victor Quintana, Ft. Hood, Texas, and Salvador Quintana Jr., Fort Knox, Ky.; three daughters, Norma Madrid and husband, James, Rocky Ford, Colo., Julie Sanchez, Rocky Ford, Colo., and Juana Jauregui and husband, Gerardo, Dallas; four brothers, Ramon Bejarano, Carlsbad, N.M., Javier Bejarano, Tino Bejarano and Homero Bejarano, all of Odessa, Texas; four sisters, Maria Nifa Duran, Pueblo, Colo, Guadalupe Trevino, El Paso, Texas, Isabel Bejarano, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Hilda Acosta, Odessa, Texas; and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother.

Rosary services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains with the Fathers Francis Stewart and Tony Judge presiding.

Burial will be at Kismet Cemetery in Kismet.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

ELSIE A. MARTINEZ

Elsie A. Martinez, 61, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Jan. 12, 1941, to William and Avelina Serrato Delgado in Meade.

She married John C. Martinez May 5, 1961, in Liberal. He survives.

She attended and graduated in 1959 from Eureka High School in Baker, Okla.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Altar Society and was an oratory volunteer, all in Liberal.

Her hobbies included bird watching, reading, traveling, listening to music and being with her family.

Other survivors include two sons, John "Tony" Martinez Jr. and wife, Linda, Liberal, and Carlos R. Martinez and wife, Charity, Liberal; two daughters, Lisa A. Beeson and husband, Scott, Liberal, and Mechelle F. Martinez, Dodge City; one brother, William "Bill" Delgado Jr., Liberal; one sister, Irene Velasquez and husband, Raymond, Ulysses; seven grandchildren, Anthony and Isabella Martinez, Jordan, Joshua and Jaccob Beeson, and Tristan and Kylie Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Welcoming of the body will be at 6:30 p.m. today with vigil services and rosary following at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

GEORGE DALEY

KISMET -- George Daley, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.

He was born March 13, 1922, to Cleveland and Margaret Garhart Daley in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He married Irene Lambert Jan. 7, 1945, in Kismet. She survives.

He was a World War II Air Force pilot instructor and was stationed at the Liberal Air Base.

After the war, he became part of the Lambert-Daley-Lambert farm 10 miles northwest of Kismet.

He and his family moved to Bellevue, Wash., in 1965, after the sale of the farm. In 1990 they moved to Rochester, Wash., and in 1999 to Snowflake, Ariz.

He was a photography leader for the 4-H Club. He was a Seward County Commissioner during the time of the building of Southwest Medical Center. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce during the time the Pancake Race started.

In Bellevue, he served on the building committee for the United Methodist Church.

He attended United Methodist Church in Kismet, where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the building committee during the construction of the church. He was a member of the Quarterback Club and helped with Little World's Fair activities.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Daley, Cle Elum, Wash., and Shan Daley and wife, Mailee, Seattle; one daughter, Sherry Lowdermilk and husband, Bruce, Snowflake; and one granddaughter, Lee Ann DelloSales and husband, Dominick, Talent, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in the rural home of Orene Hodgson in Snowflake.

Cremation has already taken place.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church of Kismet, Box 335, Kismet, KS 67859 or Rochester United Methodist Church, Box 78, Rochester, WA 98579.

DORTHA P. MILLER

WICHITA -- Dortha P. Bodecker Miller, 100, Wichita, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002.

She was born April 16, 1902, to Warren and Gertie Farmer in Seward County.

She married Otis Miller. He preceded her in death.

She grew up in Liberal.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a 71 year member of PEO.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Miller and wife, Kay, Taos, N.M.; two grandsons, Wade Miller, Taos, and Mark Miller and wife, Sheri, Albuquerque, N.M.; two great-grandsons, Nolan and Mason Miller; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Larksfield Chapel in Wichita.

Memorials are suggested to Botanica, the Wichita Gardens, 701 Amidon St., Wichita, KS 67203, or First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214.
