TRUMAN GRAHAM

Truman Graham, 88, of Harrodsburg, widower of Lavon Lake Graham, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born on Jan. 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bertha Royalty Graham. He was a retired employee of General Electric Company and was a member of Willisburg Baptist Church.

He is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews including Connie Lake of Benton and Leland Graham of Stanford, who cared for him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Mary Lou Cooksey and seven brothers: Vilas, Will Tom, Don, Hubert, Oakie, Roy and Elmer Graham.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Dr. R.G. Puckett officiated. Burial was in Peter Cemetery, Mackville.

Pallbearers were: Connie Lake, Ricky Joe Lake, Danny Mobley, Pete Carey, Butch Russell and Danny Carpenter.

BENNIE HENSLEY JR.

Bennie Lee Hensley Jr., 68, of Somerset departed this life on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on November 28, 1942 in Stanford, to Nancy Hoskins Hensley McAninch and the late Bennie Lee Hensley Sr.

Mr. Hensley was a United States Navy veteran, former owner of Driftwood Electrical and a member of the Rush Branch Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, tournament fishing, bowling, playing pool, and restoring old cars. Mr. Hensley enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Hensley is survived by: his wife, Frances Hall Hensley, whom he married on February 18, 1988 in Somerset; his mother, Nancy and Carnell McAninch of the Poplarville community; one son, Bennie Lee Hensley III of Somerset; three daughters, Veronica (Tom) Crall-Martin and Benita Hensley Lanham, both of Danville, and Stacy (Jeremy Emerson) Jones of Science Hill; grandchildren, Haylee, Destinee, Trae, Benny IV, Daniel, Grace, Shelby, Chase, Peyton, and Brooklyn; one brother, George (Sandy) Hensley of Burgin; one sister, Alice (Phil) Clark of Danville; four stepsisters; a very special niece, Jennifer Owens (and Verlan) of Somerset; and a close friend, Lige Stearns of Poplarville.

Along with his father, Bennie Lee Hensley Sr., he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Wayne Hensley, Phil Hensley, and Mark Hensley; and a sister, Sue Hensley.

Funeral service will held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Vernon Kenneth Hall officiating. Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy.

Visitation for Mr. Hensley will be Wednesday, February 16, at 6 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

ANNA KURTZ

Anna Edna Kurtz, 96 of Louisville, widow of Stanley Kurtz Sr., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Westminster Healthcare of Louisville.

Born Dec. 15, 1914 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas “Tomie” and Lovie Estelle Cummings Taylor. She was a member of Minors Lane Baptist Church, Louisville.

She is survived by two sons: Stanley Jr. and Ronald Kurtz; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Tony B. Kurtz.

GARNETT LEONARD

Garnett J. Leonard, 95, Harrodsburg, widower of Martha B. Medley Leonard, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 31, 1915 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Lillie Kirkland Leonard. He was a retired LPN from the Kentucky State Hospitals, did surveying work and was a farmer. He was a member of Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the NRA.

Survivors include a daughter: Evelyn Taylor of Harrodsburg; a son: Dr. Garnett J. Leonard of North Little Rock, AR and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Kesel officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

ROBERT MCFATRIDGE

Robert Bradley McFatridge, 81, husband of Marlene Browning McFatridge, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at his home in Harrodsburg.

Born April 21, 1929 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Louis F. and Jonnie Lee Elkin McFatridge. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a retired employee of Corning Glass, a volunteer for the Salvation Army and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Rita Gayle (Cliff) Lawson of Harrodsburg and two granddaughters, Brooke Elizabeth and Madlyn Grace Lawson.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Ann Hunter Cardini, Joyce Conover, Eleanore Dean and a brother: Louis F. McFatridge Jr.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Kaywood Morris and Gary Story. Burial with military rites, was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Seymore Claunch, Randall Darland, Jim Davis, Wayne Russell, Chad Wade and Snyder Dean.

Honorary bearers were: Louis Kerrick, Eugene Devine, Bill Barnett, Jim Ashford, Opal Cigar, Mrs. Elwood Lay, Arnetta Mays, John Mitchell, Martha Anderson and Ralph McCaffin.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Covenant House, Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731, New York, NY 10108-0731.

EDITH PRICE

Edith Bradford Price, 79, Harrodsburg, widow of Clayton Bradford and Bill Price, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 17, 1931 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Lillie Mae Warner Jenkins. She received her associates degree in nursing from Midway College and was a retired registered nurse from the emergency department at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. She was a member of The Fellowship Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter: Tammi Bradford (Darren) Wilkerson of Harrodsburg; a son: Terry Bradford of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother: James Lynden Jenkins.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley and Hilary Claypool officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Richard Fincher, Mac Crowe, Vic Smith, Jeff Moberly and P.J. Feistritzer.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Fellowship Baptist Church, 502 Ada Drive, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

WARREN RISK

Warren Risk of Burgin, 85, died Monday, February 7, 2011.

He was born in Frankfort on November 12, 1925 to the late George M. and Olive Perry Risk.

He attended Elkhorn High School and the University of Kentucky. He served in the Merchant Marines as a radio operator based out of New York during WWII. He was a self-employed contractor, and while living in Frankfort, he was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his daughter, Pamela Risk (Steve) Harp; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Harp (Kyle) Chism and Mary K. Harp; one great grandson, Noah Thomas Chism; one brother, Fred (Martha) Risk; and two sisters, Martha Brown and Lucille (Clifton) McDonald.

There will be no services at Mr. Risk’s request.

Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.

DALE SATTERLY

Dale Wayne Satterly, 63, Harrodsburg, husband of Joan Milburn Satterly, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1947 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late John Christopher and Martha Curtsinger Satterly. He served in the U. S. Army Reserve for twenty-seven years and was a former Corning Glass and Lexmark employee. He was a member of Benton Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM, the American Legion Post # 52, Case Collectors Club, the Mercer Fish and Game Club and a Life Member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son: James Chris Satterly, Harrodsburg; a sister: Kim (Raymond) Burton, Harrodsburg; sisters-in-law: Carolyn (Charlie) Hundley and Marlyn Milburn; a grandson; two uncles; two nieces; two nephews; several cousins and a special great-niece.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011), 1 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Daniel Wilson and Tim Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, 2:30 p.m. with military rites.

Pallbearers are: Hobert Cheatham, Marshall Sims Jr., Terry Young, Mike Matherly, Gary Lance and Shawn McGinnis.

Honorary bearers are: the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, Bobby Foster, Michael Cox, Charlie Hundley, Raymond Burton and Jerry Vance.

Visitation Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Benton Baptist Church or one’s favorite charity.

ELIZABETH SELLECK

Elizabeth S. Selleck, 87, Harrodsburg, widow of Dr. Richard Hilton Selleck, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at her home.

Born May 13, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Eula Cinnamon Sharp. She was a retired Corning Glass employee and beautician. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a son: Richard Hilton Selleck II; a niece: Sue Smith of AZ and a nephew: Rick Crossfield of Harrodsburg.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery by Reverends Andy and Stephanie Wing.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

CLARINDA SMOOT

Clarinda May Smoot, 85, wife of Ellsworth Smoot of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born July 23, 1925 in Liverpool, England, she was the daughter of the late David Thomas and Clarinda Rhone Pritchard. She was a member of Benton Baptist Church, a retired employee of the Second National Bank and a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: David (Libby) Smoot of Lexington; a daughter: Dana Smoot (Jeff) Hammons of Laurel County; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother: David Pritchard and a sister Patricia Jennings.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Tim Gray officiating.

Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Tony Best, David Best, Mike Hudson, Jack Herring and David Warner serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Mercer County Humane Society in honor of May Smoot.

MARVIN SOUTHERLAND

Marvin Southerland, 66, of Salvisa, husband of Rebecca Wiglesworth Southerland, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at his residence.

Born Sunday, Sept. 10, 1944, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Forest and Christine Cromer Southerland. He was a heavy equipment operator and attended Hebron Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Dewayne (Nikki) Southerland of Danville and Marvin (Amy) Wells of Lexington; three daughters: Marina (Brad) Tully of Russell Springs, Janet (Junior) Holman of Harrodsburg and Reeda (Eddie) Jenkins of Lexington; four brothers: Larry (Connie) Southerland of Danville, Jesse Southerland of Lincoln County, James (Lela) and William (Josephine) Southerland both of LaFollette, TN; a sister: Anieta Southard of Louisville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were: Jerry Bradshaw, David Polin, Ronald Wine, Tim Southerland, Robie Thompson and David Vinyard.
