PATRICIA BARNETT

Patricia Ann “Pat” Barnett, 68, of Prattville, AL and formerly of Harrodsburg, wife of James “Jim” Barnett, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011.

Born Nov. 18, 1942 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Onita Sallee Sanders and the late Arthur L. Sanders.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons: James “Rod” and Arthur “Greg” Barnett, of Prattville; a brother, Terry Mitchell Sanders of Harrodsburg; a sister, Wanda Jean Smith of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren; and a close friend, Joan Fornwalt.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel with Chaplain David Dersch officiating. Burial was in Prattville Memorial Gardens.

KATHY BROGLI

Kathy Brogli, 55, of Danville Street, Lancaster, passed away Friday February 25, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Buell and Dorothy Pitman.

Kathy was a retired daycare provider and a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church.

Surviving are: two sons, Steven (Elizabeth) and Jeremy Brogli both of Lancaster; and a grandson, Caden Douglas Brogli.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 1, at the Lancaster Baptist Church with Rev. David Green and Steven Brogli officiating.

Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery near Burgin.

Active pallbearers were Chris Crutchfield, Phil Murphy, Rev. Nehemiah Wilkinson, Rev. Jon Alverson, Shane Masters, Kevin Austin, and Rusty Sebastian and Rev. Sean Kelly.

Honorary pallbearers were Vickie Murphy, Carol East, Sherrie Morrow and Debbie Nunnemaker.

Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster was in charge of arrangements

VELMA ELLIOTT

Velma Gibson Elliott, 94, of Hustonville died Saturday, February 26, 2011.

Born April 29, 1916 in Elk Valley, TN, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Bertie Chambers Gibson.

She graduated from Hustonville High School in 1934 and Eastern Kentucky University in 1957. She taught school in Casey and Lincoln counties for 30 years, retiring in 1972. She has been a member of Hustonville Baptist Church since 1931. During those years, she led the Royal Ambassadors, Girl’s Auxiliary and Women’s Missionary Union, and also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Classes from pre-school through the Senior Ladies Class and training Union. After retirement, she became a member of the Garrard-Lincoln Gideon’s Auxiliary and served as an officer in every position.

She married the late Elmer Elliott, Sept. 18, 1943 in Portsmouth, Virginia and was the caregiver for her father, mother and husband for 26 years.

Velma is survived by: one son, Michael G (Jenny) Elliott of Harrodsburg; 2 grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Tracy of Hustonville and Chase Cunningham of Winchester; and two great-grandchildren, Landen and Michaela Tracy.

Services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, at the Hustonville Baptist Church by Bro. Jonathan Grizzell with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul D. Bodner, Stanley Burris, Ronnie Boyle, Marty Broaddus, Marvin Lane, Gary Douglas and Paul Long.

Honorary pallbearers were Chase Cunningham, Rose Owens, Sue Miller and Vivian Denney, the Senior Sunday School Classes of Hustonville Baptist Church and all former school children.

CECIL HENDREN, JR.

Cecil Ray Hendren Jr., 62, of Lexington, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at his residence.

Born June 15, 1948 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Beulah Mae Hill Hendren of Lexington and the late Cecil Hendren. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam, did masonry work and was a member of Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Melissa Gullett Christopher; a grandson, Christopher Blake Gullett, both of Harrodsburg; two nephews: Teddy Cleveland Hendren of Lexington and Christopher Mayes of Florida and a niece, Sunshine Nichols of Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy Hendren.

Funeral services were conducted Wed., March 2, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Matthew Cole officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were: Alan Sparks, Todd Hill, James Hill, Mark Craig and Joe Craig.

CLEO HORN

Cleo Benton Horn, 80, of Jeffersonville, IN, formally of Harrodsburg, widower of Emma Cammack, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at Clark Memorial Hospital, IN.

Born May 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Andrew B. and Elizabeth Oakley Horn. He was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church and in recent years attended Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Jeffersonville, IN. He was retired from International Brands, Inc., Louisville and owned Mario’s Pizza Restaurant in Jeffersonville for 11 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War where he won medals for his marksmanship. He was a former member of the American Legion of Jeffersonville, IN and a former Mason.

He is survived by three daughters: Debbie (Jerry) Brading of Jeffersonville, IN, Jackie (Tony) Brown of Louisville and Teri (Bill) Drury of Atlanta, GA; two sisters: Tyree (Keith) Gaines and Elizabeth Horn of Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two nephews.

E. M. Coot’s Sons Funeral Home was in charge of burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations were made to Father Charles McDonald’s Scholarship Fund, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lawrenceburg, IN.

NORA PERKINS

Nora Lee Black Perkins, 92, widow of Claude Perkins, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born Nov. 20, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Shannon and Bessie Steele Black. She was a homemaker and a member of the Burgin Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons: Claude Edward (Gee Gee) Perkins of Harrodsburg and David T. (Jane) Perkins of Lancaster; two daughters: Glenda (Lee Allyn) Sharp of Lancaster and Doris Sheperson of Danville; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Black and a sister, Edna Russell.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday, March 3, 2011) 11 a.m. at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Mandye Yates officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Tommy Perkins, Chris Fathergill, Mike Fathergill, Justin Greene, Jonathan Perkins and Rodney Greene.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 and after 7 a.m. today (Thursday, March 3, 2011) at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Burgin Christian Church Youth Group, P.O. Box D, Burgin, KY 40310.

GERALDINE RUSSELL

Geraldine “Gerri” Matherly Russell, 80, of Mackville, widow of Morrison Russell, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.

A native of Washington County, she was born on Aug. 8, 1930 to the late Raymond and Grace Simpson Matherly. She was a member of the Mackville Christian Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Benefiel; a sister, Emogene Matherly; a granddaughter, Heather (Justin) Reynolds and two grandsons: Noah and Eli Reynolds, all of Mackville.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Russell; a sister, Orene Matherly and two brothers: Sterling and Warren Matherly.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 26 at Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Bro. Jim Cooper, assisted by Bro. Nelson Reynolds, officiated. Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were: Don Matherly, Todd Matherly, Mike Matherly, Brad Matherly, Blair Hale and Tim Russell.

Honorary pallbearers were: Carlton Shewmaker, Buddy Hardin and Donnie Hardin.

GERTRUDE SHEEGOG

Gertrude Walker Parson Sheegog, 90, of Harrodsburg, widow of Robert W. “Bob” Sheegog, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born Sept. 29, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Dessie Lou Stratton Parson. She was a homemaker and a retired R. V. Cablevision employee. She was a member of Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, Harrodsburg Women’s Club, Homemaker’s Club, Girl and Cub Scout Leader and a Kentucky Colonel.

She is survived by two sons: Richard (Marcia) Sheegog, Nashville, TN and Tim (Marcia) Sheegog, Danville; a daughter, Bobbe Lou (Martin) Craven, Louisville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings: Buford Parson, Mae Roberts, Ruby Stem, Mildred Burns, Myrtle Cornelius, Louise Tatum and Adeline Edwards.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Beth Garrod-Logsdon officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandchildren, Marty Gargotto, Rob Rogers, Caleb Sheegog, Kelsey Sheegog, Hunter Sheegog, and Justin Sheegog.

Memorials are suggested to the United Presbyterian Church or to the Heritage Hospice, Inc.

JERRY WHEATLEY

Jerry Wheatley, 63, husband of Nancy Wheatley, died Tuesday, February 22 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.

Born August 23, 1947 in Arthur, TN, and he was very proud of it.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons, Danny (Nicole) Wheatley of Mercer County and Jeremy (Tonya) Wheatley of Versailles; a granddaughter, Katie Bug; a brother, Audie (Sue) Wheatley of Arthur, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Meak Wheatley and Ron Wheatley.

Memorial services was held Friday, February 25, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mack Whitnel officiating.

Contributions in memory of Jerry are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

LESLIE BISHOP, JR.

Leslie Howard “Chip” Bishop Jr., 49, husband of Robin Creech Bishop, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born March 9, 1961, he was the son of Les Bishop and Mary Johnson Bishop of Salvisa. He served as the director of the Anderson County Parks and Recreation Department for the past 27 years. He was a graduate of Mercer County High School and received a bachelor’s degree in physical education and recreation from Kentucky State University. He played offensive lineman in football for both schools. He served as an assistant coach for 18 years at Anderson County High School.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a sister, Sally (Jeff) Baker of Lexington and best-friend, Brian Stivers.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday, March 10, 2011) 2 p.m. at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Noal Cotton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Brian Stivers, David Todd, Robbie McCann, Davey McCann, Johnny Shouse and Jason Woodside.

Visitation Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 1 to 8 p.m. and after 8 a.m. today (Thursday, March 10, 2011) at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Anderson County Animal Control, 137 South Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

DALE LANE

Dale Wayne Lane, 40, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his home on Matherly Road in Casey County.

Born June 6, 1970, in Harrodsburg, he was the widower of Glenda Eads Lane.

Survivors include: two sons, Edwin Dale Leroy and Reggie Wayne Lane, both of Liberty; and a sister, Sheila Franklin of Liberty.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Oak Grove Contown Cemetery by Bro. Bob Garrett. Burial will follow.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Valace Elmore.

McKinney-Brown funeral Home in Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

WESLEY LAWSON

Wesley David Lawson, 62, of Cocoa, FL, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne

Born March 30, 1948 in Dunnville, he was the son of the late Hershel and Opal Overstreet Lawson. He was a former foster parent and medical driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Jenny Bast of FL; a sister, Ruth Hollon; three brothers: Lewis, Bobby and Carlos Lawson, of KY; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Armstrong and a son, Wesley David Lawson II.

No services are scheduled
