JACQUELINE LEATHERS

Jacqueline “Jackie” Leathers, 67, of Danville, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born Friday, March 12, 1943 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Opal Coy Leathers of Danville and the late Owen Leathers, previously of Harrodsburg. She spent her entire career as a registered nurse and loved caring for people.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a cousin, Darlene Crawford of Indianapolis, IN and special friends: Danny and Sue Chambers of Stanford.

She was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Leathers.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, 2011 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

PEGGY LEWIS

Peggy L. Lewis, 69, of Harrodsburg, wife of Marvin Lewis, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born April 17, 1941 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Hollie and Faye Gibson Parson. She was a retired American Greetings employee and member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. She loved collecting figurines, bird watching and her dogs.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Robin Lynn Lewis of Harrodsburg; a sister, Barbara Isham of Harrodsburg; a brother, Bobby Parson of Harrodsburg; an aunt and two special cousins.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Hollis Dewayne Isham.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 6 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church by Mark Thompson and Rick Bolton with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Eddie Sherrow, Lonnie Campbell, Brennen Royalty, Charlie Royalty, Kenny Wade, Kevin Meredith and David Leo.

Honorary pallbearers were the elders and deacons of Harrodsburg Christian Church.

DANIEL MURPHY

Daniel E. Murphy, 71, of Harrodsburg, husband of Nancy M. Austin Murphy, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Hope Lodge, Lexington.

Born Jan. 29, 1940 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Virginia Ann French Murphy. After 23 years of service, he was a retired Tech. Sgt in the U.S. Air Force with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded a Good Conduct medal, an Air Force Commendation medal and a Legal Service award. He was also a Harrodsburg post office employee for 20 years and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Ann Villa of San Antonio, TX; a son, Steve (Kathy) Murphy of Harrodsburg; a sister, Mae Dell Mills of Harrodsburg; three brothers: Edward Murphy of Lexington, Tim (Donna) Murphy of Harrodsburg and Clifton (Cindy) Murphy of Harrodsburg and four grandchildren: Gregory and Dylan Villa, Alyssa Murphy and Zachary Murphy.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Wayne and Joseph Daniel Murphy and a brother, Earl Douglas Murphy.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, March 8 at the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Ed Murphy, Tim Murphy, Cliff Murphy, Steve Murphy, John David Lane and Michael Burke.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Autism Society of the Bluegrass, 1000 Turnbridge Rd., Lexington, KY 40515.

LESLIE NORTON

Leslie Andrew Norton, 58, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born September 2, 1952 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Dennia Durr Norton. He was a retired employee of Osram-Sylvania where he worked in assembly. He was a baptist, and a member of the Kentucky National Guard and enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and old cars.

He is survived by two sons: Jonathon Douglas (Louise) Norton of Harrodsburg and Colby Jackson Norton of New York; a grandchild, Kadence Marie Norton of Harrodsburg and a nephew, Eric Montgomery of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Montgomery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., today (Thursday, March 10, 2011) at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

A private funeral service will be conducted at a later date.

Pallbearers are Ronnie Lyons, Brent Perkins, Ronnie Abrams, David Abrams and Steve Mattingly.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donation to Heritage Hospice, Inc., PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423 or Mercer County Relay For Life, PO Box 411, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

EMMA RODGERS

Emma Louise Pittman Rodgers, 85, of Perryville, died Sunday in Harrodsburg. She was the widow of Lowell T. Rodgers.

Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Ira L. and Florence Durham Pittman.

Louise was a charter member of Westside Christian Church in Liberty, Kentucky, and a current member of Indian Hills Christian Church, Danville. Louise was active in her church, she was a former Sunday school teacher, played the piano and worked with the youth group.

She was a former O.P.A. clerk with the Selective Service System, a former legal secretary for Pittman Law Firm in Liberty, owned and operated Rodgers Tax Service and Insurance Agency and was former owner and operator of Rodgers Auto Parts in Liberty.

Louise loved quilting, crocheting, sewing and working with her hands. Gardening and working in flowers was also something she really enjoyed. Above all else, Louise loved her family with all her heart. Her children and grandchildren where her greatest joy. She also loved her beloved dog, Nellie, who was her friend and companion.

Survivors include: two children, Tom (Sherry) Rodgers and Lea (Walter) Goggin, both of Danville; a sister, Patsy Cottrell of VA; a brother, Ira Lee Pittman Jr. of OH; four grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Rodgers, Jenna Louise (Matthew) Gordon, Amy Lynn ( Dan) Schott and Susanna Marie Goggin; and a sister-in-law, Frances Pittman.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Elijah Thomas Pittman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Indian Hills Christian Church by the Revs. Odis Clark and Lance Ladd. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim, Benjamin, Jonathon and Charlie Sharp, Dan Schott and Matthew Gordon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Young, Donald McAnelly, James Ray Cottrell, Dr. John R. Price, Rodney and Chris Neat and Michael Cash.

Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Living Stones, c/o Indian Hills Christian Church, and James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital extended care unit.

Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville is in charge of arrangements.

FRANCES RUSSELL

Frances Graham Russell, 84, widow of John W. Russell, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Extended Care.

Born June 15, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John and Lenora Hartley Graham. She was a homemaker, a member of the Grapevine Christian Church, and enjoyed basket making and antiquing.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Divine of Harrodsburg, two granddaughters: DeeDee (Lee) Sanders of Mercer County and Stephanie Divine of Harrodsburg and two great-grandsons: Ryan and Jacob Sanders of Mercer County.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: John B. Britton, Claude Russell, Sam Hagan, Lee Sanders, Ryan Sanders and Jacob Sanders.

CHARLOTTE SALLEE

Charlotte Sallee, 67, Harrodsburg, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 23, 1943 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Cordelia Williams Powell. She was a retired laundry and housekeeping supervisor at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center and a member of Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Bobbi Jean (John) Tyler and Rhonda Kay (Larry) Coontz, both of Mercer County; a sister, Lena “Judy” Reed of Burgin; two brothers: Cornell Powell of Harrodsburg and Floyd Dale Powell of Lancaster; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a special friend, Debbie Tyler of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Mae Sallee; two grandsons: Bobby Hayes III and Matthew Jacob Coontz; a brother, Walter Carol Harmon and a sister, Margaret Thompson.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. today (Thursday, March 10, 2011) at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Floying Thompson Jr. and Floyd Dale Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery, Dixville.

Pallbearers are: Robin Hagenbuch, Larry Parker, Bernie Trump, Keith Taylor, David Kelly, Denny Thompson, Larry Reed and Kevin Todd.

Honorary pallbearers are: Damon Kelly, Larry Coontz Jr., Katrina Buford, Shelly Coontz, Isaiah Kelly, Chase Kelly, Ashton Kelly and Brown Sugar.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 and today (Thursday, March 10, 2011) prior to Service.

ANITA BOTTOM

Anita Lavon Bottom, 54, widow of Darren Bottom, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 15, 1956 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William James and Bessie Opal Smith Bast. She was self-employed and a member of the Ebenezer Church of Christ.

She is survived by three daughters: Angela (Dwight) McGinnis of Mercer County, Amanda Merriman Tatum of Mercer County and Staci (Andy) Thompson of Burgin; a son, Larry (LeaAnn) Merriman Jr. of Anderson County; two brothers: Donnie Bast of Harrodsburg and Tony Bast of Salvisa; a sister, Judy Hurst of Harrodsburg and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Merriman; two sisters: Betty Olzanski and Nora Patterson and three brothers: Leroy, Connie and Danny Bast.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Hurst, Bro. George Dye and Bro. John Kesel officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Donovan Bast, Eddie Bast, Brad Hurst, Shawn Lanham, Brian Hurst and Michael Keller. Eric Bast served as an honorary pallbearer.

MARY BOWEN

Mary Elizabeth Motley Bowen, 86, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

She was born June 29, 1924 in Mercer County to the late Hershel and Martha Crutchfield Motley.

She had been a dorm counselor for Stewart Home School in Frankfort, KY.

Survivors are: two children, Loretta Jelf (Larry) Dedman of Cynthiana and Thomas A. (Diane) of Nicholasville; grandchildren, great grandchildren; a brother Ray Motley of Nicholasville and other family members.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Stinnett.

Private services will be held.

Contributions suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

RANDALL BURNS

Randall J. Burns, 89, of the Cardwell community of Washington County, husband of Juanita Derr, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at his home.

Born Sept. 21, 1921, he was the son of the late Reco and Lillie Warner Burns. He was a deacon at Mt. Freedom Baptist Church, a 1940 graduate of Mackville High School and owner and operator of Randall Burns Grocery in Cardwell.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Jerry (Peggy) Burns of Harrodsburg and Randy (Cathy) Burns of Springfield; a brother, Mitchell (Dottie) Burns of Mackville; a sister, Nona Schildknecht of Louisville and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Verlin Burns and a sister, Velma Young.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 15 at Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Rev. John McDaniel and Rev. Jamie Chesser officiated. Burial was in Mt. Freedom Cemetery, Washington County.

Pallbearers were: Gary Jenkins, Bobby Lee Russell, Ron Schildknecht, Larry Burns, Martin Burns, Gary Carney and Bobby Humes.
