OMER CAREY

Omer Junior Carey, 76, of Danville, husband of Esther Frances Tate Carey, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his home.

Born May 16, 1934 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Omer H. and Bessie Mae Carey. He was a farmer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sheila Carey Hanes of Danville; four brothers: W.C. (Ruby) Carey of Harrodsburg, Lewis (Violet) Carey of Burgin, Robert (Carlene) Carey of Burgin and Thomas (Tiny) Carey of Garrard County; two grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and a special niece, Mary (Terry) Slugantz.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Shawnee Run Baptist Church in Burgin, with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Luke Richardson, Jeremy Richardson, Jimmy Collier, Stewart Sears, Donnie Judge and Tom Carey.

Honorary pallbearers were: Terry Slugantz, Alan Slugantz, Max Hensley Gill, Vince Staton, Michael Paul Hensley and Chris Richardson.

MARY CAVNAR

Mary Elizabeth Kays Cavnar, 86, died Monday. March 28, 2011 in Louisville.

She was born on April 19, 1924 in Franklin County, was a long-time resident of Denver, CO, and most recently had been residing in Shelbyville.

Her passions were her family, the support of missions around the world, and service to her Lord and Savior through Christian education ministry. She was a graduate of John Hopkins University and received her Masters in Christian Education from Eastern Baptist Seminary, where she met her husband, LeRoy. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Denver, CO where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Fellowship. She had recently been attending the church of her youth, Shelbyville First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Steve Cavnar (Donna) of Denver, CO; her daughters, Linda Youngs-Alley (Bob) of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA, Gayle Barnett (Jon) of Parker, CO, and Leanne Pagliasotti (Bob) of Denver, CO; her sisters, Norma Barnett (Bill) of Harrodsburg, Barbara Coleman of Winchester, Dorothy “Dot” Hanna of Shelbyville, and Peggy Kays of Shelbyville; her brothers, Dr. Herbert Kays (Carolyn Sue) of Louisville and Donnie R. Kays (Carol Lee) of Prospect; and 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew and Bryan Youngs; Brad and Chad Barnett, Jason and Jenny Cavnar; and Darsana, Tony, Corrina, Angie, and Francesca Pagliasotti; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Kays, Sr. and Cora Brooks Kays; and her husband, LeRoy B. Cavnar.

A Celebration of Life service was held Tuesday, March 29, at the Shelbyville First Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society or Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society.

ALEX CONNELLY

Alex Connelly died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 27, 2011, he was the son of Rob Connelly and Jessica Matthews of Harrodsburg.

Other survivors include grandparents: George and Karen Matthews of Harrodsburg and Anna and Robert Connelly of Stanford; four uncles and an aunt.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Earl Lane officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, April 1 from 12 noon until the hour of service at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

ROBERT COX

Robert Louis “Warty” Cox, 90, husband of Elsie Hargis Cox, died March 25, 2011, at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born August 14, 1920, in Burnside, he was the son of the late James Preston and Josie Nunn Cox.

He retired as a conductor for Southern Railroad, was a U.S. Army veteran, a Mason for 66 years and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son, Robert Louis (Pam) Cox Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Sharon Lee Woods, of Harrodsburg; 10 step-children; one brother, Ross Douglas (Charlene) Cox of MI; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a special, dear friend, Machelle Stevenson, of Nashville, TN.

The funeral service was conducted Monday, March 28, at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Earnest Martin and the Rev. Brent Lowe officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren.

EMMITT DEVINE

Emmitt Devine, 90, of Mackville, widower of Virginia Mae Gammon Devine, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born Nov. 6, 1920 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Ernie and Flora Shewmaker Devine. He was a member of Mackville Christian Church and a long time service manager for the former Nally Companies.

He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Devine of Mackville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26 at Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield with Bro. Jim Cooper and Bro. Charles Knecht officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were: Mark Nally, Stephen Nally, Jim Powell, Everett Lee Russell, Kenneth Riley and Dennis Gammon.

JAMES DOROUGH JR.

James Edward Dorough, Jr., passed away Wednesday March 23, 2011 at home with his family by his side.

Born October 12, 1938 in Fernandina Beach, FL, Jim was predeceased by his mother, Celeste Smith Dorough and his father, James Edward Dorough, Sr.

After graduating from Southern Tech in Georgia as a civil engineer, Jim moved to Lexington, from Bainbridge, GA where he resided until the time of his death. Professionally, Jim will be remembered as the owner of Lexington Mechanical Company from 1980 until he sold the business in 1998. Jim's great love for boating and fishing on Herrington Lake led him to preside over the Herrington Lake Conservation League in 2001.

He is survived by: his wife, Phoebe Porter Dorough of 50 years, and his three children; Angie Humphrey (Barry), Meg Schuler (David) and Jed Dorough III (Laurie). Jim is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Alan, Haden, Megan, Jacob, Lizzie, Jack, Phoebe, Patrick James, Abby, Jake and Anna Beth; and his two siblings, Jack Dorough (Jane) and Deanna Alford (Fred).

Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, 2011 at Southland Christian Church Chapel.

The family wishes to have a private burial service thereafter.

FRED MARINO

Fred S. Marino, 67, of Clewiston, FL, formerly of Harrison County, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Born in Queens, New York, February 11, 1944, to the late Anthony Marino and Florence Montgomery Gianuzzi.

He was a retired fireman with the Cynthiana Fire Department and a member of Indian Creek Christian Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason O'Brien.

He is survived by: his wife, Pat Marino; his step-father, Tony Gianuzzi, Lakeworth, FL; three sons, Donnie (Robin) Shaw, Cynthiana, Freddy Wayne, Lexington and Mike (Paula) Shaw, Cynthiana; six daughters, Kim (Jimmy) Marcinek, Harrodsburg, Rhonda Marino, Inverness, FL, Tina Hill, Savannah, GA, Robin (Bill) Kuster, Cynthiana, Shawna (Donnie) O'Brien, Cynthiana, and Pam Stoner, Cynthiana; two brothers, Tony Marino, Boynton, FL and Joseph Gianuzzi, Royal Palm, FL; four sisters, Barbara Equitz, Lakeworth, FL, Mary Ann Hager, West Palm Beach, FL, Jo Ann Scheer, Enfield, CO and Arlene Chopyk, East Meadow, NY; 19 grandchildren, Hunter, Liz, Kelly, Missy, Tiffany, Nikki, Cody, Miriah, Joshua, Clinton, Shannon, Naomi, Kristin, Holly, Brandon S., Michael, McKayla, Shawna and Brandon H., sixteen great grandchildren, Kaylee, Rhiley, Madison, Austen, Brody, Jason, Brooklyn, Courtney, Brittney, Kelsey, Jenna, Caleb, Kinsley, Karlie, Maddyson and Aleigha and special friends, Buddy and Karen Taylor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 23, at the Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana by Bro. Tim Humphries, Sr. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

JAMES MORRISSEY

James Thomas Morrissey, 81, of Marianna, FL, widower of Donna Jean Minton Morrissey, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.

Born Feb. 25, 1929 in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Archibald Leo and Edna Eileen McKinnley Morrissey. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Motorcycle Association, worked as a design engineer for Batesville Casket Co. and was a retired KY Corrections Officer.

Survivors include: a daughter, Susan (Scott) Morrison of Marianna, FL; a sister, Joan Marie Morrissey of CA and two grandchildren, James Scott Morrison and Jeremy Barrett Morrison.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Visitation is Saturday, from 12 p.m. until the hour of service.

JAMES RALEY

James L. “Frog” Raley, 73, Harrodsburg, husband of Ruby Steele Raley, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home.

Born May 17, 1937 in Casey County, he was the son of the late John

Tolbert and Mary Lane Raley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a welder and owned and operated a septic business.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elaine (Jeff) Rogers of Harrodsburg, three sisters: Opal Peyton, Brenda Goodlett and Rachel Goodlett, all of Harrodsburg; four brothers: Kenneth Raley of Indianapolis, IN; Harold and David Goodlett of Harrodsburg, Frank Goodlett of Salvisa; two grandsons and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Bill and Donnie Goodlett.Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by James Harley and Hillary Claypool. Burial with military honors was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Jeff, Blake and Dekota Rogers, Chris, Harold, Frank and David Goodlett, Kenneth Raley, Buddy and Clint Steele and Virgil Peyton.

MARY RELAFORD

Mary Louise Woolcott Relaford, 79, of Harrodsburg, widow of Lowell Kenneth Relaford, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born September 28, 1931 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Elizabeth Hopper Patterson, Sr. She was a retired private school teacher and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, George Nelson (Cynthia) Woolcott of Lancaster and a grandchild, Kathryn Elizabeth Woolcott.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Steven Woolcott.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, March 31 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Ken Klemme officiating.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

RODNEY SHELTON II

Roderick Jerry Shelton II, 28, of Perryville died Friday March 25, 2011 in Danville.

Born March 19, 1984, in Mercer County, he was a son of Frances Rakes Shelton of Danville and Roderick Jerry Shelton of Perryville.

Rod had attended Mitchellsburg Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He also enjoyed working on cars with his dad.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandfather, Herman Shelton of Mitchellsburg; a brother, Derick Lee Shelton of Danville; two half sisters, Julie Shelton of Berea and Jessica Shelton of Casey County; and a half brother, Charlie Shelton of Marion County.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 29, at the Wilder Funeral Home by Phillip Coffman. Burial was in Parksville Cemetery.
