STERLING BROWN

Sterling Thomas Brown, 58, of Lexington, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the UK Medical Center, Lexington.

Born August 3, 1952 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James Thomas and Imogene Yates Brown.

He was a UK Law Building custodian, member of the First Baptist Church and an avid football fan.

Survivors include: two sisters, Linda (Kenny) Brown and Deborah (Garland) Pope, both of Lexington; a brother, Van (Rose) Brown of Dallas, TX; a niece and special care giver, Jerrica Spencer of Lexington; and two special friends, Susan Terdan and David Taylor.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin, Raymond and Jimmy Brown.

Services were held Tuesday, May 3 at the Little Zion Baptist Church, Burgin with Bro. Phillip A. Yates officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Craig Boyd, Gary Brown, Jewell Brown, Richard Brown, Roger Brown and Casey Spencer.

Honorary bearers were: Jim Moseley, David Taylor, Michael VanDyke and Doc Warren.

JESSIE DORSEY

Jessie Brown Dorsey, 101, widow of Hiram Stirling Dorsey, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1909 in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Rodman and Lida Alberta Riester Brown.

She was a retired Vanderbilt University Eye Clinic administrative assistant and a member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN.

Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy (Bill) Lively of Burgin and Linda (Bill) Gaw of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Hugh S. Dorsey.

Services were conducted Saturday, April 30 at the Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, IN with Jackie Lindberg and Jordan Zanetis officiating.

SARAH EDEN

Sarah Mae Eden, 63, of Herring Heights in Lancaster passed away, Friday, April 29, 2011 at The James B. Hagen Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

She was born, Monday, October 27, 1947 in Garrard County to the late W.T. and Lucy Bell Delaney Adams.

She was a homemaker and member of The Lancaster Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, William Frank, Joe Thomas, and Roy Cecil Adams, and a sister, Betty Lou DeBoard.

Survivors include: her companion, Carlos Adams of Crab Orchard; one son, Billy Ray Eden of Lancaster; one brother, Delbert Lee (Elizabeth) Adams of Lancaster; three sisters, Mary McCulley of Lancaster, Brenda Broaddus of Stanford, Edna Marie Ray of Sand Gap; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, May 3, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Bryce McCulley officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Lear, Kenneth Lee Deboard, Bradley Joe Adams, Elbert Johnson, Justin Sebastian, Carl McAllister, Robbie East, and Keith and Kevin Middleton.

JUNE HAFLEY

June Coyle Hafley, 88, of Harrodsburg, widow of Lewis Hafley, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1923 in Perryville, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Alma Bell Crane Coyle.

She was a retired sales clerk for Lawson’s Jewelry and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Brenda H. (Benton) Lake and Connie (Wayne T.) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg; a sister, Doris Hogue of Stanford; four granchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewell Crews and Juanita Sweazy; and a brother, Maurice Coyle.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, May 5 at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville, with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating.

Pallbearers are: Ryan Lake, Marcus Lake, Miles Jackson, Cory Jackson, Lexy Lake, Faith Lake, Rylan Lake and Nikki Lake.

Visitation is Wednesday, May 4 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Baptist ROC, 312 S. Main St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

JOSEPH MURPHY

Joe H. Murphy Jr., 93, widower of Mary Genevieve Townsend, died Thursday, April 28, 2011.

Born Aug. 17, 1917 in Stanford, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Murphy Sr. and Estella Hill Murphy.

After working on the family saddle horse farm, he entered the Army in 1942. He served as both a cavalry and infantry officer and received the Purple Heart during the invasion of Southern France. He left the Army as a captain, became a Ford dealer in Stanford and Harrodsburg in 1947 and retired in 1997.

He was a member of the Civil War Round Table and served as a deacon and chairman of the board of South Elkhorn Christian Church. He was a board member of the Foundation for the Historic McCormack Meeting House.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph Henry (Barbara) Murphy III and Martin Wallace (Cindy) Murphy; a daughter, Elodie Murphy (Rick) Lawson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a devoted friend, Elizabeth Short of Lexington.

Services were held Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his sons, grandsons, Rick Lawson and his cousin, Bill Cox.

Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. Charles Roland, Herb Sledd, Esq., and the members of his Squires of the Springs lunch group, the Civil War Round Table, and the McCormack foundation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for the Historic McCormack Meetinghouse, P.O. Box 2, Stanford, KY 40484, and to South Elkhorn Christian Church, 4343 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40513.

MARY RUSSELL

Mary K. Russell, 94, widow of William Allen Russell, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born October 11, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lee Hardin and Ruth Bell Gritton Watts.

She was retired from Cricketeer, a member of Carpenters Christian Church and enjoyed working in her flowers and sewing.

Survivors include her close friend Phoebe Brown and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Allin L. Watts and five sisters: Mrs. Lewis VanPelt, Mrs. Leona Barr, Edna Watts, Pauline Bugg and Mrs. Mildred Taylor.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 30 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Warren officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Steve Taylor, Ronnie Watts, Brian Watts, Randy Fletcher, Lee Bivins and Jeffery Bivins.

Honorary pallbearers were: Sammy Watts, Chigger Flynn, Billy Taylor, Gary Durr, Samuel Durr and Zachary Taylor.

GENEVA WILKERSON

Geneva Marie Eastburn Wilkerson, 90, of Lawrenceburg, widow of Stanley Wilkerson and John Corley, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Florence Stinnett Eastburn.

She was a member of Anderson Christian Church, Retired Angels, and Church Builders Sunday School Class and a former member of New Liberty Christian Church. She retired from Heritage Hall Health Care Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra (Larry) Stopher of Salvisa.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Corley and a granddaughter, Shelley Stopher.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Vernon Huber and Bro. Dan Lillpop officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: David Wilkerson, Charles Allen Wilkerson, Estill Wilkerson, Jr., Kris English, Bill Stopher and Paul Yates.

Honorary bearers were the Retired Angels of Anderson Christian Church.

HERMAN BRADSHAW

Rev. Herman Samuel Bradshaw, 86, passed on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

He was one of three children born to the late George and Cerdlear Bartleson Bradshaw, on November 1, 1924 in Mercer County.

Rev. Bradshaw is preceded in death by his wife Mary VanDyke Bradshaw and his two siblings, Pauline Dunn and Robert C. Bartleson

He was the former pastor for many years, at Turnersville Baptist Church in Lincoln County and Tucker Chapel Baptist Church in Marion County.

Rev. Bradshaw is survived by: his children, Tilton (Lois) Bradshaw, Mary (Jerry) Bedinger, Loretta (Robert) Bean, Sandra VanDyke, Gary (Donna) Smith, Steve Smith, Cecil (Beverly) Smith, all of Harrodsburg, and Mark (Angie) Smith, of Ashland, KY; 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 12,

LARRY ISHAM

Larry Dale Isham, 57, of Mackville, husband of Wanda Carol Leigh Isham, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born August 17, 1953 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Lovie Jewel Burns Isham and the late Arlie Bishop Isham. He was a Boyle County Detention Center officer and a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a sister, Lana (Will) McGinnis of Harrodsburg; a step-daughter, Nikki (Michael) Ellison of Stanford; a step-son, Jonathan (Kelly) Tillett of Danville and a step-grandchild, Levi Ellison.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Verlin, Buford and Conrad Isham.

Services were conducted Monday, May 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Barry Harmon. Burial was in the Battle Cemetery in Washington County.

Pallbearers were: Tony Young, Rory Click, Junior Walls, Bruce Sims, John Terrell and Jeff Bradley.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society or New Harmony Baptist Church.

MARY MCCROSKY

Mary Lillian McCrosky, 86, of Harrodsburg, widow of Cecil McCrosky, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born August 4, 1924 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Virgil Burton Patterson.

She was a retired Cricketeer employee and a member of the Joseph Chapel Methodist Church.

She is survived by four daughters: Patty (Russell) Brock, Betty (James) Goodlett, Lynn (John David) Lane and Karen (Thomas) Powell; a son, Richard (Dee Dee) McCrosky; a sister, Velois (Jack) Garriott and a sister-in-law, Vera Patterson, all of Mercer County; eight grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Claude and Houston Patterson.

Services were conducted Tuesday, May 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Patrick Brock, Chris Goodlett, Jonathan Lane, Joseph Lane, Paul Richie and Levi Brock.

Honorary bearers were: Stephanie Brock, Kristi Richie, Samantha McCrosky and Molly McCrosky.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mercer County Humane Society or Heritage Hospice.
