NORMA BOSWELL

Norma Jean Crouch Fowler Boswell, 80, of Harrodsburg, widow of Walter Edwin Boswell, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center in Harrodsburg.

A native of Washington County, she was born on February 21,1931 to the late Proctor and Nettie Mae Holderman Crouch. She was a member of the Thompsonville Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Debbie) Fowler of Springfield and Daniel (Mary) Fowler of Mackville; four daughters: Victoria (Robert) Haney of Harrodsburg, Virginia Fowler of Harrodsburg, Deborah (Jerry) Coyle of Willisburg and Kathryn (Bob) Wilkerson of Bardstown; a sister, Ruby Taylor of Bardstown; a brother, Buford (Gwen) Crouch of Gretna, La.; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Aaron Lee Merriman; a brother, Walter Crouch; a sister, Martha Key; a half-brother, Jack Crouch and four half-sisters, Louise Durr, Clara Meadow, Lela Romine and Margie Gruner.

Services were held Tuesday, June 21 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Derek Baker officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were: Joseph Fowler, William Mudd, Rusty Fowler, Robert Fowler, Dion Merriman and Noble Boswell.

Honorary pallbearers were: Michael Harmon, Quinnten Fowler and James Merriman.

NANCY BOURNE

Nancy Pamela "Pam" Stratton Bourne, 58, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at her home in Frankfort.

Pam was born March 13, 1953, in Anderson County, and was a retired employee of Unemployment Insurance, Commonwealth of Kentucky, Frankfort. She was a charter member of Capital Ovarian Cancer Organization (COCO) and a volunteer at the Franklin County Humane Society, where her love for animals provided a new home for two rescues, Nixon and Max. Nixon and Max were welcomed by the other family bulldog, Winston.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis L. Bourne; two sons, Brian (Karen) Bourne and Ben Bourne, both of Frankfort; two brothers, Will Stratton, Salvisa, and Ashley Stratton, Covington; a sister, Roxanna Walker, San Francisco, CA; stepfather, Courtenay Walker, FL; three grandchildren, Clark, Garrett, and Allie Bourne, all of Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Kenneth Stratton, and mother, Victoria Shryock Walker.

Services were conducted Tuesday, June 21, 2011, with Reverend Todd Lester officiating. Burial followed in Frankfort Cemetery.

Bob Schmitt, Jack Ellis, Will Stratton, Ashley Stratton, Thad West, and Andrew Kent served as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Pam to the Franklin County Humane Society, 1041 Kentucky Avenue, Frankfort, KY 40601; Capital Ovarian Cancer Organization (COCO), 103 Brookside Court, Frankfort, KY 40601; or Hospice of the Bluegrass/Frankfort Office, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601.

Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.

ROXIE CHAMPION

Roxie Diane Bond Champion, age 69, of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, June 17, 2011 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center.

She was born in Anderson County to the late Wright and Helen Mitchell Bond.

She was the widow of Ralph Champion; a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

She is survived by: two daughters, Jan Michelle Cammack Brown, Louisville and Brenna (David) Keller, Frankfort; two granddaughters, Nicole Cammack, Louisville and Stephany Keller, Frankfort; two great-grandchildren, Ana Keller and Athan Barnard, Frankfort; a sister, Crevilon Bond, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Mickey (Wilda) Bond and General Wayne (Connie) Bond, Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Harlow; and a brother, Gayle Bond.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 22, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Jackie Lane Barnett, Justin Lane Barnett, Tim Bond, Jerry McGuire, Brad McGuire, Jeff Shouse, Shawn Hutton and Dustin Young.

Honorary Bearers were Noah Young, Neal Young, Mick Harlow, Jay Brown, Dwayne Hawkins and Shaun Case.

PAUL CLAUNCH

Paul Claunch, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday in Danville.

Born April 8, 1926, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Marcus and Margie Cummins Claunch. He was the husband of Daphna Elswick Claunch.

Paul and his wife are the owners and operators of Battlefield Antiques. Paul also was a self-employed farmer and a member of Perryville United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and trapper.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived: by three sons, Dan (Nellie) Claunch of Perryville, Steve Claunch of Harrodsburg and Stanley (Terri) Claunch of Danville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 18, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville with Rev. Jeremy Ruegg officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith, Mark and Jay Claunch, Steven and Thomas Baudendistel, and Buck Goode.

Honorary pallbearers were Jackie and Gary Cummins as well as the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Perryville United Methodist Church.

WILLIAM JENKINS

William H. “Buckwheat” Jenkins, passed on Friday, June 17, 2011

He was the son of Frank and Birdie Lee Drakeford.

He was the oldest active male member of St. James A.M.E, and served in the U.S. Army, 82 Airborne Division.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jewell Jenkins, Danville; his children, Rev. William (Robin) Jenkins, Danville, Dr. Sharon Jenkins (Robert) Hickman, Fayetteville, NC, Michelle Allen, Lexington, Michael Allen, Harrodsburg, Yolonda (Ronald) Wilkerson, Danville, Donna Johnson, Cincinnati, OH, Ciji Estill, Richmond and John (Teela) Johnson, Lexingto; two step-children, Jennifer (Dwight) Rochester, Washington, DC and Tammy (James) Smith, Richmond; two brothers, Michael Dean “Pete” Cowherd, Danville and Chinos E. Harlen, Charleston, SC; 19 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at noon Wednesday, June 22, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Danville.

MARGARET JOHNSON

Margaret Johnson, 95, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

Born Jan. 1, 1916, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Wiley and Cleo Johnson.

Margaret was a resident of Harrodsburg Health Care Center in Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Vermont, Orestes, Willie Mac, Aaron, Sylvester, and James; and two sisters, Lucillle and Ophelia.

The funeral service was conducted Friday, June 17, 2011, at First Baptist Church at Second and Walnut streets. The officiating minister was Pastor Darrick Briscoe.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

OPAL LEATHERS

Opal Eva Coy Leathers, 90, of Danville, widow of Owen Leathers, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at The Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born June 8, 1921 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Reynolds Coy. She was a devoted wife and homemaker along with being a seamstress. She was a record keeper at Harrods Run Farm for many years. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Danville.

She is survived by numerous cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Coy Leathers; a daughter, Jackie Leathers and a brother, Edward Coy.

Services were held on Monday, June 20, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

KATHERINE SANDERS

Katherine Phillips Sanders, 81, of Willisburg, wife of Kenneth Eugene Sanders, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her home.

Born January 20, 1930 in Pinellis County, Fla. She was the daughter of the late Zephaniah and Barbara Faul Phillips. She was a hostess and waitress at the Soreno Resort Hotel for 12 years in St. Petersburg, Fla.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters: K. Patricia Reed of Harrodsburg, Kelly E. Uhrig of Danville, Julia L. Todd of Lawrenceburg, Jo A. Woodson of Versailles and Jane E. Coffman of Salvisa; two sisters, Dixie Pernell of Clarksburg, W.Va., Mary McGregor of Madill, Okla. and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Aaron Uhrig officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 25 at noon.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Heritage Hospice.

JESSIE TRAVILLIAN

Jessie Travillian, 100, of Harrodsburg, widow of Pleas Travillian, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 8, 1911 in Tullahoma, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Sam and Zetta Smith Creek. She was a retired nurse’s aide from the Kentucky State Hospital and a member of the Herrington Lake Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by three sons: George Travillian of Fla., Lonnie and Pleas Travillian, Jr., both of Harrodsburg; three daughters: Samantha Sturdivant and Zetta Lanham both of Danville and Mable Carrier of Frankfort; twenty–seven grandchildren and several great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sons: Chester, Samuel, Stallard and David Travillian.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Holbrook officiating. Burial was in the Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were: Pleas Travillian, Jr., Lonnie Travillian, George Travillian, Chester Travillian Jr., David Wayne Travillian and David Dobbs.

Honorary pallbearers were: Bob Jackson, Gary Pike, Bart Moore, Gardner Travillian and David Travillian.

LOUISE VEATCH

Louise M. Veatch, 97, of Scottsdale, Ariz., widow of Otis S. Veatch, died Sunday, May 8, 2011.

She was a homemaker and a long time resident of Harrodsburg.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on the day of the service.

PHILLIP WAFFORD

Phillip B. Wafford, 67, of Salvisa, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born November 28, 1943 in Lexington, he was the son of Lucille Wafford and the late Robert Brown Wafford. He was a retired master electrician and recently employed with White House Electric in Georgetown.

He is survived by a daughter, Phillita Jill Wafford Ammons of Harrodsburg; a son, Mitch Doyle of Harrodsburg; a brother, Raymond Wafford of Mount Washington; two grandchildren and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Rhorer and Bobbie Ann Spaulding.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, 205 Otter St., in Danville on Thursday, June 30 at 6 p.m. with Sister Jolene Bailey officiating. A reception will follow.
